Great video and simple and great tie George, we use a close looking pattern of this fly in New Zealand and it works well too.Tight lines and thumbs up from Down Under,, Tony.
Thanks for another great video I've just started fly fishing this year and not having a great deal of luck but I thought it might be the weather and the lack of water in the river but I did see a kingfisher on Saturday morning that has made the not catching all worth while
Its a top fly and always have a few on me, ill need to try the smaller sizes 👍 Ive been using the grey duster lately too, v good search pattern, fish cant seem to leave it and simple to tie as im sure you know. Excellent fly fishing as usual 👌
Great video and simple small, sparsely tied flies George...so helpful during this year of little rain /low river levels... thanks for sharing...may I ask about how you achieve your delicate presentation using a long leader and light fly i.e. what length / tapered leader size + length and size of tippet you use...also do you need to apply any dry powder floatant to the fly, or does it dry out from false casting....many thanks
Listened to the podcast on weed , great stuff, I fished the navan boyne 1990s same thing happened there , I lamented leaving the club , I blame the opw for much of the ruin of irelands rivers , I fished the rye river 1970s same result , the opw ruined the clare River also , and a drainage job on my local river dunkellin galway ruined in the name of housing development . This country does not give a dam about natural, watercourses, between farming eutrophication, same in lough atoric galway once full of rising trout, now full of rudd roach hybrids . I'm a similar vintage but will be soon hanging up my rods for good, lived in UK for 30yrs , they have managed rivers better however changing too . One thing I learned is when you complained you got nowhere .
Hi George just wondering what your thoughts are on barbless hooks? I always use barbed, used barbless a few times and thought I lost a lot of fish over it, but I catch and release anyway. Are u a barbed or barbless man
I use barbless almost exclusively,as you say and I agree,a few more fish are lost by their use, however I think overall it's a positive initiative in terms of fish welfare.
My problem with fishing a griffiths gnat is how do you see it? Do you use a high visibility indicator line, similar to upstream nymphing? Or do I just have poor eyesight? Ha ha
It's not always necessary to see the fly,if you know approximately where it is and see a rise strike, this works well for those like myself with less than perfect eyesight.
