Barry, that is great. I have done it purely by hand and more recently with a crochet hook, but that method looks much easier to control accurately. I wonder who did the 9 dislikes? Some folk are very odd! Thlanks for posting this.

Hi Corey, get it from a sewing supply shop, and ask for a knitting machine needle!

I have the expensive "fly tying" version with a fancy knurled handle. Your two handed method using the vice look way faster. I guess I'm cutting off the handle. Thanks.

The formal name of the needle is 'latch needle.' Any fabric store can have them.

Ahhhh, now i get it I appear to have been pulling off wrongly!! I couldnt figure it out, the knot wasnt forming as i was pulling towards me Then i noticed you were pulling off to the right and that cracked it Thank you

Here in North America they are sold in Dollar stores as a latch needle found in the craft section. Also marketed as the Rainey's leg tool.

How do you keep the fibers together to make a loop? If I use two or three fibers to make a loop they separate. I've tried waxing the fibers, but that doesn't work. Wetting them doesn't work either. A good idea if could just keep the fibers from separating when I make a loop.

Hi Red, I understand, but I'v never had that problem. Try cutting the fibres while in place on the step, don't pull them 90 degrees from the stem to cut them, this should keep the barbs together. Hope it helps.

Great Tip, I've got to get me one of those tools. I seen a video where a guy was make legs like that using tweezers. But he did not give good instructions and examples and I could not figure out how he done it. You give a great example in this vedio. On the vedio the other guy had, he was make the legs with the fibers still on the main stim in of the feather. Which was pretty kool, because all the legs where still attached to the main Stim of the feather. If you needed any legs you could just trim what legs you needed off the stim. It would make the legs easy to store and keep up with. Do you know how to make legs like that. It would be great if you could make us video on that way of making legs. Thanks for sharing this tip with us.

Hard to find them on Amazon. Most of the ones sold there have a handle so not suited for vice application.

I tried your method and it sucks full stop... I went back to the manufactures method . At lease it works. I would like to see you make 2 knots on the same leg using your method sir.
