Welcome to PA Matt. I'm launching the bass boat today otherwise I'd be out on Spring Creek or Penns. Busy anniversary weekend. Maybe one day next week!
@SavageFlies
@SavageFlies 9 месяцев назад
Oh man, I should have told you I was coming up sooner! I actually hit Spring Creek one day. I messed around at Fisherman's Paradise (where you can't wade), and then hiked the trail upstream. I only pulled one brown in about three hours on the water, but it was a beautiful place! I didn't see all the great pull offs to fish downstream until I was driving out. On the plus side, I talked to about eight other fishermen and none of them had caught a thing so I didn't feel too bad with one 10-inch wild brown and the few others I missed on an ant pattern. They were all nymphing or fishing caddis dries.
@allenaviation5746
@allenaviation5746 9 месяцев назад
@@SavageFlies Hope you had a good time! I was at Paradise on Saturday just to walk that upstream trail known as the canyon just for exercise. Friday, I should have went there instead of launching the boat at Bald Eagle. I had a disaster and didn't get to fish. In an empty launch lot, some guy managed to clip the motor completely off the boat with his car. What a mess, including his car! Boat probably OK but the motor is probably a total loss!

Nice tie Matt. Good luck on Penns Creek. It's a great place. I did notice the TCO website. They are all great there. The Bryn Mawr shop is closest to me. Tight lines, and don't be afraid to drop to a 7x there. Make sure you bring some tan Caddis patterns, black zebra midges, and some small black and/or olive streamers.
@SavageFlies

Great tips Jeff! I love the TCO shops. Have been to a couple of them over the years. And yep, a tan caddis worked well for me on Fishing Creek, and also a black zebra midge on Penns and Spring Creek. I didn't think to go down to a 7x, but I probably should have!

Hey Matt do you have a good source for hatch charts? Appreciate you sir.
@SavageFlies
@SavageFlies 9 месяцев назад
Not really! They're so regional, I just search on an area or specific river and hope somebody has one out there. A lot of fly shops actually do. TCO has several shops in Pennsylvania and that's where I found this chart for Penns. And then books that are region specific often will have charts too.

some of your flies I do agree with that I do tye.But there are some I don't agree with like this one.I don't like the hackle to be 1 1/2 times the size of the hook gap .
@SavageFlies
@SavageFlies 9 месяцев назад
Thanks for the note Kenneth. I guess everybody has their own style but I've typically followed tradition and usually I go one to one and a half times the hook gap. If that has worked for fishermen for hundreds of years, who am I to disagree?

Agree . I don't tie many wings on my dries as well. Just hackle. Found it really doesn't make much of a difference.
@SavageFlies
@SavageFlies 9 месяцев назад
Great points, both of you! I've often wondered if they can see them at all. I've come to think that *maybe* they can during certain situations, but I agree... most dry flies are just as effective without them. Unless it's for US to help see the fly. And that's one reason I still tie them on some of my flies.
