Beautiful fly tied, I needed that tutorial. I caught a chub this morning on the coarse lake using a grannom; as I like to fly fish for Coarse fish. It was a beautiful like take. I’ll certainly give this a go. Thanks for sharing David

yes Davie, I enjoyed it alot! much more than the original in that you incorporate the hair tips. really don't need to tie the thread back on and dub a body, reattaching at the front. your egg sac provides the added attraction. you must have been a barber in a past life, I love to watch you trim deer hair! excellent Davie, thank you.

Whenever I see grannom naturals, I'm always amazed at how small they are compared to some of the flies we use to imitate them. I tie on #18 CZ nymph hooks, and they seem to be closer in size when dressed.

one of my all time favourite patterns. used to tie up some variants, particularly one with a dubbed head(fluo green was best) and the hackle wound through it stimulator style. excellent fly for rainbows and brownies

Very interresing technique to work with deer hair with fingers. Thanks a lot!

That's a whole lot of hair for one single fly. But I really love this one mainly because cadisses are my favorites. Never tried this one but I surely will. Greetings and tight lines from the Čech Republic🇨🇿.

I tied these really heavily over dressed back when I first started tying at the start of the year the idea being to use them as an indicator for a team of buzzers. I mean seriously they look like a deer hair blob and they work well holding up the buzzers. Crazy thing though is I have caught more fish on the over dressed sedge this year than any other fly in my box and by a long way as well. I catch more often on the sedge than buzzers underneath so now I carry on tying them exactly the same way.

I tie a similar Goddard Caddis. Many Montana Brooke’s fell for this fly. I’m tying some of yours.

I can see this pattern doing very well here in Maine (U.S.). It's pretty interesting to me that many of the patterns you feature are similar to ones that work well here as opposed the west coast of the U.S.

Hi Davie, I have a question about wax also. Are the threads that are marked 'waxed' when you buy them not generally waxed enough that you have to add more wax? Or is your thread 'unwaxed' at the start?
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 8 лет назад
Hi Craig Shirey, Most threads are lightly waxed but there's times a little bit more will help hold materials a bit better especially when tying on and off hackles and wings... All the very best Davie

Never attempted this style of fly before. Gonna give it a go after watching you make it look so easy. Could I use coastal deer with a grizzle hackle?
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 4 года назад
Hi Nick, Just use what you have and see how it turns out.. I have a few pieces of coastal deer and they can differ in length and thickness but I'm sure it will be ok, the grizzle hackle would work as I've used it myself on this fly..Let me know how you get on..Stay safe.. All the very best Davie..

Hi Davie was just wanting to ask a quick question can you use bees wax to wax your thread or will I need something else thanks for any help
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 8 лет назад
Hi Grant Murdoch, I have tried bees wax before and I found it not to be as tacky as the Veniards Wax that I use, but there's many recipes out there so it's definitely worth trying...The one I use is called Prepared Fly Tyers Wax... All the very best Davie

+Davie McPhail thanks I was looking at the veniards wax it's around a £1 or so it's just that I'm still a beginner so want to get some wax to make sure my materials stay tied down

@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 7 лет назад
Hi Ciaran o'donnell, The pen I have is a few years old now and I do know they have changed them so just use a Bic pen which should work just as well and Yes I did borrow one from Ladbrokes I just forgot to take it back.. All the very best Davie...
