Thank you Davie, for the very clear and instructive explanation on the tying of this fly.. Fishing Season over for another year, I'll be back watching your Videos, after I clear the cob-webs from the tying desk !
Davie, thanks for all the practical tips like splitting the wings before you cut of the excess and wetting the wings to make them more manageable. You are a very efficient tyer and great instructor. Thomas from Sweden
As I have said before, You are very good. Here in the States we fish very fine leaders at times, I sometimes will go to 8x or 9 x if I need most of the time I am 5x 6x. I have found that no matter what you do, varnish or glue on the finish head will make my knots weaker. What I have found was a little dubbing wax on the thread just before whip finish works as well. I never hand a fly undo itself. I had flies last for as many as 30 fish before well retiring.
I've watching your well-done instruction videos. I like the subtleness the overall subtleness in which you execute your artistically made flies. I enjoy watching them, some of which over and over. I hope to get some time to imtate a fewand take off to try them on the steelies that run not too far from my house ( a mile or so). Thanks, Davie. Moulay
Hadn't seen this one. I am surprised I haven't seen this video before. I did tie the one with the CDC olive wing, but just found this one when you referred to it in the video of the Mosely dun dry fly. I really like this, sure has a lot of hackle. ATB, Sean
My dear Davie: its almost impossible to me to tye so many feathers in a single hook! This video is like watching a magician doing a dificult trick, at the end you just cant believe the end. Congratulations my friend, Its like you were touched by God when a kid. Saludos from Mexico
Davie, many thanks for this upload. I've used a version of this fly tied from memory that a mate used on lough conn to great effect. I died grizzle hackles pink and golden olive and mixed these with a natural. Although the fly worked well for me on conn, arrow and lough erne, it never quite looked right. Now I have to try to fit FOUR hackles in, instead of merely three!
Hi Davie Great pattern once again, In this video you use i think bleached and dyed squirrel is the process of bleaching this material easy or is it better to buy., only trouble is i cannot find any that's close to this colour . best fishes
Hi Rtc Rtc, I bought a Metz Grade 2 Cream from the Glasgow Angling Centre, I cut it in half dying one side pink and the other side sunburst which I like do a lot with many of the saddles I buy.. All the very best Davie
