We have a very similar fly here in South Africa that originated from the Adams, the DDD. Basically it has a much smaller collar and no wings. Optional is a strand or two flash (length of the body) at the back of the collar. Very good tie, the tip on protecting the tail is golden.
Great fly, I guess this is one I missed as well. I have seen the pattern tied before but you tie the neatest flies with the most consistent tying style I have seen thus far. I believe you are one in a million Davie, and I am glad to have seen you tie. I have learned very good tying habits watching you tie. I am very exacting myself and will start over before I accept a sub par fly. Thanks for that. All the best, Sean
Hi Davie Great looking fly . The tape trick is awsome will deffinitely have to remenber that one. I dont get to fish for that many trout well coldwater fish that much maybe one time a year. But will have to try it next time I go. Thanks for the great videos Chance
I used to think think this style of dressing is so effective in the USA and elsewhere because cicadas are present in these places. We don't have cicadas in the UK but I can assure Davie's UK viewers that they work here! I have had great success in recent seasons with them on Scottish lochs in small to medium sizes, and as Davie says they are practically unsinkable. What the trout take them for I don't know, but they do work extremely well at times. Many thanks Davie for the demonstration.
Thanks for this video. I liked how you tied in the hackle points. I have always had trouble with this. Now that I see how it is done it shouldn't be a problem anymore. (with practice of course!)
Thanks for the pattern Davie. Will try to tie some for the wee burns around the Killie area - when they thaw. Also fancy hanging a nymph or buzzer off it. John (formerly Kildonnan until I moved provider)
great fly, they are popular in the U.S., but i think the Blue Wing Olive is slightly more popular; which i imitate with this pattern with olive deer hair, and dun hackle; works great, Thanks,
Great ties Davie! You got me hooked on fly tying. Question, for dry flies do you tie the shiny (convex) side of the hackle forward, towards the eye of the hook or vice versa? Thanks for the great videos, keep 'em coming.
Davie, There are not any video's that I have seen that are better than yours. Learned some great technique's from watching you! Thanks again... watching you tying the Adams Irresistible, wanted to know what size hook you were using? I tied it in a sixteen looked pretty good great pattern, thanks again Jimmy3822003
Hi Davie, Great looking fly. I have been wondering. When people tie fry type patterns, how do they get the two tone effect on the deer hair body? Some i have seen are silver on the bottom and a darker silvery/gray on top with black dots running up the middle. Do they use permanent markers? Thanks, ~David
Hi Davie, I just got some tying tools and a vise and I'm looking for 10 patterns to start out with, five dries and five nymphs/wet flies. I live in idaho so we have lost of trico, pmd, drake, and midge hatches and I was just wonder what 10 flies should I start out with and what materials will I need. Best Wished, Carson
Hi Michael, I was actually tying some bombers today for a friend and I used the masking tape and it peeled away easily, I know it's a cheap make and it's not very sticky..I do though make sure the hair is well tyed on and that I wax my thread for more grip..I hope this is of some help to you though let me know how you get on.. All the very best Davie..
