another simple beauty Davie! for sure adding to my box. you know, I never mentioned before, but when you hold up bright red feathers against you blue shirt, it takes on a fuchsia hue. almost like the spectrumised dubbing. atb Davie!

The hackle folded and wound in just perfect manner! Very nice job indeed.

Thanks Davie, it's lovely to see affordable hackles used to make beautiful files. Thanks again for sharing. I like to think I've learned a lot from you.

Thank you Davie! great fly as always and proven to be a killer with brown trout in the Ecuadorian Andes. Great tips too, "you don't need expensive capes to tie good flies" love that. Greetings from Ecuador and all the very best to you too

Hey Davie, nice wee fly, I really like it, especially having the peacock herl towards yourself and the rib the direction of the shank, (I do that whenever I am woking with a necessary but fragile fiber. I learned that from you too! Thanks for sharing. All the best to you and yours, Sean

Davie... nice wee poacher pal. Ma dad and uncle Hughie scally told me that the original poacher has peacock sword for the body. 😉👍🏻🎣Tight Lines pal and try the sword it fishes a lot better and looks better in the water pal

Very nice Davie! Think the spot of color is just right to attract attention to the fly. Thanks for the details! Would you consider adding a bit of lead foil at the middle of the body on a pattern like this or would that affect how it fishes too much? ATB! Hank

Hi Hank, It's certainly worth tying some with weight especially early in the season and as well if you want to use them on the river...It is a good fly to have in your box and I'm glad you liked it... All the very best Davie

Great video, I have a question as I'm confused with something, some videos I see you tie from the tip of the feathers and here you tie the back of the feather, when do I tie with tip of feather and when do I tie with back of feather like in this video? Jyst do I understand the theory. Thanks in advance Davie.

Davey you made a comment that the vehicle does not have to be expensive. Can you recommend a manufacturer of feathers that are inexpensive that you would recommend. Thank you ever so much I appreciate your help..........

I am always impressed by your Law vise and I'm equally surprised that someone hasn't made a copy considering how it seems to be the "perfect" vise. I heard someone did but only for a short while, Have you heard of anyone who might be making them commercially?
@DavieMcPhail

Hi Bob Fowler, I have seen others having a go at making a copy of the Law Vise but never look as good but I would need to try one to be sure. I wish someone would but I do know the metal and parts used on the Law were the best you could buy... All the very best Davie

Sir Davey I have a quick question for you I'm enjoying your flight I but I don't quite understand one thing. What is the difference between a cock and a hen feather or Hackle? How can I tell the difference? Thank you for all that you do. I simply love your work. Happy Holidays from the USA

Hi Sasquatch7foot, I have attached a couple of videos which are on RU-vid and will show you the difference between most of the capes you will use when tying many flies..I don't have a video just on this subject though these are very good.
