The copying accusations in kpop is soooo out of hand. When you have only a couple dozen songwriters/producers and companies in the same industry there’s going to be trends and similarities and that’s okay. I wish people would just chill out abt a lot of stuff in kpop honestly. It’s just people dancing and singing💀

@nontzmkhize8735
@nontzmkhize8735 5 месяцев назад
That's exactly it! And they are entitled and free to do so. But get actual producers from that genre to produce it. Seeing as it is becoming a mainstream genre and replication of it is inevitable but to get producers who know the genre is best. You wouldn't get a Hip Hop producer like Swizz Beatz or Timbaland to produce Rock. So why get K-pop producers who don't know the genre do an Amapiano inspired song?
@lordbuhcheeks
@lordbuhcheeks 5 месяцев назад
@@nontzmkhize8735I get that and it’s a fair point. But why are we pigeonholing producers to a certain genre? Producers should always be evolving. If they wanna experiment with new genres, we should encourage it. People will complain that everything sounds the same. And when producers change it up, they’re mad bc they didn’t get other people (who are more experienced) involved. It shouldn’t matter. What should matter is the end result and the end result for Smart is really good.
@nontzmkhize8735
@nontzmkhize8735 5 месяцев назад
@@lordbuhcheeks I am not against producers evolving,what I don't like is producers who haven't done their due diligence about the genre or the culture behind it, copying the genre because it's viral instead of learning from producers from that culture and doing the music well and crediting the genre. Not a single Amapiano producer was used and the motto of Amapiano is "Amapiano to the world" because the producers are open to collaborating with international producers to expand the genre. Diplo for example has worked with Major League DJs several times. LEARNING how Amapiano is done and collaborating with Amapiano producers like DJ Maphorisa instead of riding the Amapiano wave and making his own interpretation of the genre without crediting the source. Giving credit is something K-pop producers,dancers and idols struggle to do. Whether that is on a Tik Tok video,a music video concept or choreo. That is the main issue. You don't see Amapiano DJs rushing to do Korean trot. But if they were to do so,they would use trot producers. The same way some West African artists get the likes of Musa Keys (who are Amapiano musicians) to collaborate with them when they create Amapiano music because they know that they can't do it like Amapiano producers can. Hybe has failed to do this. Because I think at the end of the day,they don't care about the genre or the culture. They just care about numbers and because Water went viral,they thought,oh an easy way to make numbers.And on top of that, K-pop stans have the gall to discredit Tyla and say she didn't come up with that sound or those moves,but she's from the cou try that originated both? And made Bacardi dance go viral? Her influence on the genres should not be erased. It's disingenuous. You're erasing a South African doing South African things just to elevate Koreans? It's weird.

@@nontzmkhize8735 they don’t need to do anything. If they wanna make a song bc another went viral, then by all means. The sound trending alone brings the culture some attention. K-pop does have a bad history with crediting. But for this one, simply making a song of a genre bc it went viral is just smart. If people don’t like it, they don’t have to listen to it. If they like it, then they do. I see Amapiano being made, I’m happy regardless. Love to see it thrive

People need realise that within the music industry artists inspire each other all the. Music is for everyone. Music is a form of. Just like how fashion designers and painters inspire each other musicians do the same. Sampling is common in the music industry. Even American artists sample Arab or Asian traditional instruments in their songs but no one complains about that but when it comes to Kpop everyone has an opinion. People need to realise that every music genre was inspired by another genre. Just like how Kpop was inspired by R&B, Reggaeton,Latin pop,rap,hip hop and EDM music. Pop music is a versatile genre that can be blended into any genre or style if done correctly. Even BTS used African inspired elements in their music especially during their song IDOL. BTS always gives credit to the artists they take inspiration from. There are many interviews which speak about this.

This comment section is bothering me. There seems to be a large misunderstanding as to what’s happening. All black fans did was point out that Smart was clearly inspired by Tyla’s water. (This is due not only to the genre itself, but the fact the outfits were similar, they did the same dance move she did, and they even changed their accent.) That’s it. No one is upset, nor are they claiming that it’s plagiarism. A lot of kpop fans don’t realize that kpop since its inception has been inspired by black culture, and so black kpop fans were simply making an observation that Water’s popularity is the newest inspiration. They’re also pointing out how silly these fans look when they’re being racist to that black model by saying "keep kpop korean", and here goes that same kpop group that they’re a fan of mimicking a black artist.

"Tyla didn't invent this","Tyla didn't popularize this" and "This sound has existed for ages", "Tyla's not the first person to..." When I see comments like this,I know that whoever is saying this thinks Africa is a country😂That all music from Africa is Afrobeats 😂That Amapiano and Bacardi is the same thing😂And that Amapiano and Afrobeats are the same thing😂Twerking is Bacardi😂💀. So basically uncultured. All of these things,friends,are not the same. K-pop fans need to realise that there are actual people and cultures attached to dance styles, music genres etc. And in you trying to defend your faves by saying that people from the countries of origin of the genres of the music/dance that your faves are COPYING weren't the pioneers of that musical genre or style is cultural erasure. Tyla isn't the pioneer of Amapiano or Bacardi dance(or music)and she never claimed to be. She did however tell you that her genre is Pop-piano which a fusion of a genre of music called AMAPIANO(from her,country South Africa: SPOILER - She is South African and knows more about South African genre than the average K-pop fan does). She even told you all that the dance move in "Water" is called Bacardi and not twerking so that you didn't run with the idea of twerking and therefore erase Bacardi culture. YOU have to do your own due diligence. And while doing that,do not attack someone for doing a genre that is from their own culture and saying "she didn't come up with it" , "it's been around for ages." Obviously she didn't come up with it,but it's HER CULTURE. She can do it and use it however dhe wants. And she has done well to popularize Bacardi dance and Amapiano music globally. Which is what Amapiano DJs have always wanted. HOWEVER,they want collaboration and not imitation. Which is why Amapiano DJs and producers work with international DJs like your Diplos and with artists like Davido. Because they need to be involved in the genre of thrir country. What K-pop fails to do is collaborate with African producers when copying African sounds which is why it'll never hit the same way. The same way as when other African countries also produce Amapiano without South African producers. So the toxic stans saying that it should not matter that there was no African in the production of "Smart" because Tyla didn't have any South African producers. Are you Okay? Tyla is South African. And she has been doing Pop infused with Amapiano since her first single "Getting Late" in 2020. She is the South African in the studio😂Also,a Ghanaian producer was present so you are also misinformed.

This is exactly how I feel about it. Like them trying out amapiano is cool, but the execution feels lazy and it's likely because they were lazy with the inspiration too like you said. Le sserafim got a dominican (I think) producer to make antifragile, which makes sense since it's reggaeton and antifragile ended up being probably their best song so far. Now imagine what it could've been like if they actually got someone who knows amapiano to make a song for them. Hopefully I'm not making myself look dumb lol, since I didn't actually check who the producer was. It just sounds so lazy and it's a b side, so I figured it's likely they didn't hire someone who knows what they're doing in terms of amapiano. If it is someone qualified.. Well that's very unfortunate then lmao, because it still sounds lazy (not bad, for the record).

If Rock music became popular tomorrow the girls would drop a rock concept album🤷‍♀️ but Afro music can’t be easily replicated because the vibe and dance and energy is something we’re born with it’s almost spiritual. You think twerking is Bacardi 💀) And it's knowing that not a single African was listed in the production of the song and they had to even use South African dance. It's giving cultural appropriation. You can explore different genres but at least have the decency to get people from those countries on board. @@tobennaokoli4450 "Tyla didn't popularize Bacardi. It's been around for ages now." To say that Tyla didn't popularize Bacardi is very disingenuous because Bacardi is a very niche genre even in South Africa. It is not a mainstream genre in its country of origin,so how would it be popular internationally? If you are confused,let me explain further. The song "Water" is not the genre of music known as Bacardi. The song "Water" is a fusion of Pop and Amapiano similar to Tyla's debut single from 2020 called "Getting Late." The style of dance that is the signature move of "Water" is from the style of dance that is used in the Bacardi genre and it is not TWERKING. That is why Tyla made it clear to tell people to search for "Bacardi" dance and not to try and twerk during the challenge because it's different than twerking. And yes,Bacardi existed before Tyla but it was not "popular" as it's not a mainstream genre even in South Africa,where it's from. Bacardi songs do not even chart, that's how niche the genre is. The genre that is popular in South Africa and has been for the last decade now is Amapiano,which is where all of the Tik Tok trends come from. And without a doubt, Amapiano is more popular than Bacardi. You just have to look at the streams on Spotify and even on RU-vid. You're saying that Tyla didn't popularize Bacardi and you are eight because the genre is not popular here in South Africa internationally. Name 2 Bacardi songs that have been a global hit. Or 2 that have even half the number of streams as "Water." Then you'll see how ridiculous this is. Tyla popularized the STYLE of dance called Bacardi internationally. Which is what even professional Bacardi dancers like Michelle have said. And why Tyla had a Bacardi remix of Water performed by the Bacardi dancers at Hey Neighbour. Bacardi and "Water" are not the same genre of music. Bacardi music is not popular at all. Amapiano is. Which is different. And Tyla said that Bacardi isn't danced to Amapiano and she is correct. Amapiano has its own style of dance which is also getting more and more popular internationally. Bacardi is not twerking. And Bacardi is a niche genre from a specific place in South Africa. So you'll have to explain how Bacardi has been popular internationally and maybe give some suggestions of Bacardi music that has charted and gone viral. Afao, Bacardi is not Amapiano. Also,Doja Cat never did Bacardi. She just twerked. So whenever people say stuff like "Tyla didn't popularize Bacardi", "it's been around for ages", "Doja Cat has been dancing like that for a while now" and "Le Sserafim has always Shaked their butts" I KNOW that they don't know what Bacardi is or where it's from or even what it sounds like, because again,"Water" is not Bacardi music, it's Amapiano music with pop infusion using Bacardi dance moves. And Bacardi is not twerking. There are cultures and origins to these things,and by erasing their origins,you discredit the native people.

@@nicoleloss7987 "Tyla didn't popularize Bacardi. Tbh I did not associate "Smart" with any song in particular. My thoughts during that song were, "Oh, it sounds like Latina dance music" and "I'd rather watch Latinas dance this thing. I want someone voluptuous not starving and stick-thin swaying their booty at me" 😂 Also, repeating Tyla's words, love to all the girls!

I love LE SSERAFIM. They know what's hot so they will create/emulate that. It's similar to afrobeat ,amapiano music not TYLER in particular .They have more of a black music sound than other Kpop groups and there's nothing wrong with that. Genre's are made to share, as long as you respect the culture and roots. Honestly, I think that's why I gravitate to them. EASY is a banger💖

No offense but many afrobeat songs sound the same, beat wise. And that’s okay. The sound of Afrobeat/Amapiano is just very recognizable. Even Tyla’s ‘Water’ & ‘Truth or Dare’ sound similar and they’re different songs. It doesn’t bother me really

And aren’t companies these days trying to go for the global recognition anyways from the success of BTS and BlackPink. We have so many more survival shows now that are being made for a “global” audience in the Kpop scene. I’m sure artists like le seerafim are very happy to get a song that will attract another audience especially if they’re performing at cochella.
