Are you even serious? Dude, he was caught. He got banned for 2 years. He made a come back he was caught again he got banned for 8 years. That's when he realised that his career is over. He made his choice many times over.
He was literally caught during that olympics but authorities fked up B sample for unknown reasons. Then he got caught again just a month later. Do not knwo what takes them so long to take gold medal from confirmed doper. And of course they straight up handed that medal into hands of another doper
Ginger Pops you should read how he cheated and learned nothing from the wake up call in 1998. A cheater has a bad character why even bother with his words??
Pro cycling is a racket. A tawdry bunch of dopers on the big stage. Its all an illusion of excellence and grandeur. On the quiet they are all on the piss, swearing at seminars. Drunken millionaire louts. If only Joe Public knew the truth...
The guys in Tyler’s time had a tough choice. It wasn’t a question of “ to dope or not to dope” It was a question of “ dope or not have a career in cycling.”
The first year of Lance’s retirement 8 of the top 10 tested positive, yet Lance denied doping😂 We are to believe he naturally beat the top guys who were all doped up😂
@@jasong9502 We all knew. Everyone in the sport knew. It was the dirty little secret. Only the brave stepped forward. Steve Swart, Emma O’Reilly, Betsy and Frankie Andreu. Even Greg Lemond spoke up and took the hits. And you’re right: everyone else went along with it to save their jobs. It happens in every industry as he points out here about a third of the way in. Red Eggs.
That's a lie. Anyone can be a Top national time trialist or crit rider with no team. And just work a part time job. Doping doesn't work. And lots of amateurs have amazing wattage. The only problem is, electric motors are everywhere now. It's like nascar or formula one - it's not about the fastest rider.
Thanks for making this public Sport NZ. Tyler Hamilton: Its hard to express the sadness n anger at the dark years of cycling. With yourself, David Millar, theres hope from sharing the warts and all then. I appreciated the gritty, tough riders, as opposed to the flaneurs. You were tough. This showz too in your current path. I hope it frees you mentally. peace
Excellent talk, Tyler, very much admire your courage and honesty. Also loved your book, read it several years ago. You are an american hero, in a deeper and much more meaningful way than any athlete.
He actually stated that he won more races without doping than he did whilst doping. It shows how Armstrong threw everyone under the bus to save his own ass, so much admiration for Tyler Hamilton, Frankie and Betsy Andreiu and Emma O'Reilly for their dignity.
He still did the really hard work for years, the doping didn’t do the work, but he knew he couldn’t compete without the same “equipment” all the others had.
He may have been involved in the doping program, but he was also forced into by Armstrong and despite all that once the scandals showed up, he knew he was done and unlike Armstrong, confessed to everything and voluntarily gave up his gold medal. I admire him for rebuilding his life and give public talks of emotional fragile he was on the whole program.
Tyler is charismatic. I like listening to him and it doesn't bother me he cheated for years during his time at US Postal. However, what I find interesting, and what I think bothers me on some level, is he seems to be making a fairly decent living talking about being a cheat. Being a liar and a cheat is still lucrative even when the game is done. It just serves to show there is no natural justice and even no real human justice for that matter.
what the fuck is wrong with you? him and his co are just drug users!! is it because his white? we should bane all competative sports if this is what winning means?!? fxxk sacks people get real !!
+Christian Matheron I definitely see what you are saying, however he does numerous talks where he doesnt get paid. Additionally, and Im not saying this justifies it, but if you refused doping, Lance would fire you. So a lot of folks were honest and are dead broke. Again, Tyler still made the wrong choice, but the fact that Lance made millions, it doesnt bother me in the least if Tyler gets some money for coming clean. *Several* still havent, and are very wealthy, they just havent gotten caught yet.
I also see what you are saying, however Tyler's story is somehow one of the best example about coming clean. As he mentioned he did it because he was subpoenaed, nevertheless thanks to him the omertà rule has been broken, leading to an insightful view of the racing world. He was a cheater, and people will remember him as such. On the other hand, it is very honorable from him to talk about it. Younger generations must understand what was wrong (and probably still is...) in the professional cycling world. After all, cycling dope is an addiction and prevention is better then cure. Would love to know how many other doped cyclist are there in the world doing what he's doing. I'm sure he is one of the few to have the dignity to admit he did the wrong thing.
No one is being forced to listen to his story, you were not forced to watch this video. You watched because you wanted to hear what he had to say about his life. This is what life is, its experiences and we are intrigued by experiences of other people both good and bad. Tyler is not paying himself for his story. Who is really to blame here him or the people who are.
When your so driven to succeed it shows you how easy it is to be seduced when your that vulnerable. I absolutely applaud Tyler for his courage and at last doing what Armstrong should have came clean with from the start. Has he yet to come clean about Frankie Andreu's wife Betsy and what she heard in the hospital room ??? he needs to validate that for starters.
tx for posting this, a any team getting gov money should be an open book. Thats you SKY. b. In OZ, Rugby, Rules, League all get public money...they need to prove that they protect your children from dangerous practices - sport is already dangerous c. educate first & then incriminate
I am French and I always liked this runner, well before his problems. He had the courage to tell the truth, but it must also confessed that it was a sacred doped too! Soon it will be Froome's turn to do the same !!
I like Tyler Hamilton. Great cyclist. Really. Cheating at cycling just reflects whole society. I begrudge him what he earns from his experiences now. Just makes the best out of it now. :)
Actually in Europe cyclists say "pane e acqua" which so close to the spanish "pan y agua" but is italian. It's widely diffused and comes from the glorious Coppi and Bartali times.
Nothing has changed... the UCI is still picking winners... now they use TUEs. Wiggins doped, Froome doped... they all dope. If we want it to end we need to boycott ALL sport until it is clean.
That was interesting about the silver medal as I always wondered about that amazing Russian from 1988 team pursuit final. ;-) Thanks NZ sport for getting Tyler and making his story accessible to Kiwi athletes.
A guy that suffered, mayb still suffers with serious depression .to point the finger it was HIM that swallow, injected etcetc the drugs he could of walked away or refused as a top pro at the time he could of taken a stand
Great upload thanks. The shame of all this is that these drugs have such a small effect overall but thats all thats needed with these thoroughbread racers, a small edge. You still need to be a superhero rider just even finish the Tour.
The first year of Lance’s retirement 8 of the top 10 cyclists tested positive, yet Lance denied doping😂 We are to believe he naturally beat the top guys who were all doped up😂
Can't here the questions very well but a lot of the answers are the same as those from the Oxford University video makes me feel that it is somewhat scripted. Maybe they are just common questions.
People talk about what a great racer Lance Armstrong was. But before he took EPO, and when he raced clean, he never made it higher then 35th and placing and typically road in the middle of the pack. He did not have the build or VO2 max to be a great rider clean. So taking EPO gave him an unfair advantage over other riders, and EPO has better impacts on some than others. It doesn't affect everyone the same. So while he was a hard worker and driven, he had an unfair advantage. And he was a liar.
You mean when Lance was clean, he couldn’t compete and finished in the middle of the pack against doped riders like Indurain , Chiapucci, Bugno, Rominger, Zuelle, and Riis??? Oh man you’re a smart one!!
Exactly. If Hamilton could somehow make a living on doping, or protecting the reputations of dopers, he would still be in the dopers' camp. He left because he could no longer make a living at it. Now all of a sudden he embraces the truth because there is more money in it.
I was one of the many who was fooled and help make these guys multi millionaires. But you have to admit it was great fun! Lance was a modern day PT Barnum and David Copperfield all rolled into one. Ty is an opportunist of the worst kind. He was lucky enough to have been in cycling with Mr "Barnum". Now he gets to make money off of it like those shop keepers who sold shovels and pic axes to the 49ers during the gold rush. I don't blame him. Thanks Lance, for the ride!
Well spotted. Although I’m pretty sure he recognised her, he calls her by her first name and smiles. They would definitely know each other, as they were both active at roughly the same time period and would have moved within the same circles, and also because Tyler ‘won’ his Olympic Gold medal at the 2004 games too.
What I would ask Tyler is, The other top teams were doping--I mean that car busted for the French team was FULL, would the Postie boys have had a chance to win no matter how hard they trained if they hadn't doped? I believe he would say NO. Then I would ask, Lance Armstrong and your team made tens of millions and millions of dollars for so many people, The Post Office, Sponsors, Bike manufacturers, Bike Shops, all the biking Gear Manufacturers and all the stores that sell it, Lance Armstrong and the Team made biking a cool sport, you guys made it insanely popular, rumors are that the organizations in charge of the Tour looked the other way about doping. Plus LiveStrong raised 500 MILLION DOLLARS for cancer suffers...so why is Lance Armstrong carrying the biggest burden and penalty of doping?
It wasn’t the doping as much as the way he treated people who questioned him. People like Betsy and Frankie Andreu, Emma O’Reilly, Greg LeMond etc. The way he treated them and the way he denied he was taking PED’s was probably the worst thing.
The doping scheme was really run like your typical gang; a strict hierarchy and many unwritten rules. If you are not in you will soon be out. Lance turned into the godfather of doping after 98 when teams left it up to the riders. Lance found new ways to stay ahead of all the tests. He bullied clean riders and messed up this man who I have watched tow the biggest fraud over many miles of french roads.
i mean i remember the incidents in the tdf between lance and other riders, and lance i think took many testosterones from young age on, idont know , but i suppose so, cause it seems like an ''entry drug'' and the guy was like a guy who took the entry early not like tyler with 25 or so?...
Tyler fails to mention if he has health issues after doping. after all Lance was close to death with brain cancer, testicular cancer etc. And other ailments connected to doping. Maybe Tyler could inform the public if others in the races had health issues also.
I think one of audience members asked about that. It is hard to say for sure, though, because it is difficult to hear the entirety of the questions, but based on Tyler's answer, he said something about yes he thinks about it and he gets a yearly check up at the Dr and so far so good.
@@shanetonkin2850 On a comment I left two years ago. Let me see if I can remember the hour long documentary. I believe the point I was trying to make is that he made it seem he was doping just while with US postal. He also doped with many other teams failing 2 more times the last one in 2009 and banned from cycling for life. www.theguardian.com/sport/2009/jun/16/tyler-hamilton-drug-ban
this TDF doping story has another aspect to it that does not get much attention : the medical profession's role in all of this -----these MD's and their staff's and the drugs they made available while telling the athletes there was no risk to their health did terrible damage........all of these athletes that doped THAT DID NOT DIE shortly after starting on the program, are all still going to have a shorter life span than they otherwise normally would..........IATROGENIC EVENT definition : Doctor caused disease or death..........these Doctors lied through their teeth just to make money ----- and these athletes lives ?? who cares.......
When doping paid the most, Hamilton was all about it, but now that snitching pays more, he's all about the "truth". Hamilton is your classic opportunist. He will be the spokesman for whoever pays him the most.
I love to make Bodybuilders, Football players, Baseball players, etc to be humiliated to speak about PED usage. Shame on the police force responsible and the UCI.
Unfortunately business is the bottom line of everything- it all pends down to the question: How can we make the most money from this? Sports might be entertaining, but nobody works, or in this case plays, for free- and ultimately there's no point in putting in as much time as it takes to be a professional athlete if you aren't putting asses in the seats and making a certain amount of money- you have to meet that quota- and unfortunately the best way to do that is to take your top players, pump them full of something that'll give the fans and world something REALLY worth paying attention to and paying for, and presto: You've got a cash cow. It benefits everyone- the players make more money, the owners make more money, and the fans remain satisfied- everyone wins- even it's a giant stinking lie. Does it sound insanely awesome that a guy could win one of the toughest races in the world 7 times? Of course it does, but the point is: It sells. Money makes people do unbelievably crazy shit- and this is just another example of that.
The new dope is Electric motor's inside racing bikes Watch Froome accelerating downhill away from the motor cyclists following He does this because he cannot be checked going downhill - it's too fast It can be checked with infra red cameras uphill but not downhill Its too fast to follow by camera
