you know what makes me happy? how Tyler will tell you the meaning to his tattoos in person but you have to promise not to tell anyone. I can imagine how many people he has told and they promised not to tell and it makes me happy that I haven't seen anyone online saying the meaning of his tattoos. it makes me have faith in humanity knowing that people have kept that promise.
Tyler is the kind of person I want to have as a friend to call at 2 am when I'm having an existential crisis. but since that can't happen, I just rely on the music ❤
I actually so this everyday. Hearing his speeches or just some Interviews ... It's the only thing that calms down. I don't listen to what he's saying... I just want to hear his voice. Same with josh. I'm weird I kno but at least I don't get these shitty nightmares :)
Dude, I do that. I listen to their music to fall asleep to, so I don't fall asleep crying. I also set up my alarm as them saying "holy mackerel" and "holy Toledo"..
i want to get a tattoo that means "kitchen sink" in some strange language and when people ask me ill tell them, and when they're like "LOL why kitchen sink?1?!" ill say "cause a kitchen sink to you is not a kitchen sink to me" and then rap the entire song. if i could rap.
stuff like this makes me wana meet him even more. It's such a shame that, when you meen musicians you have just a short moment to take photo, and then, that's it. I whish I could meet him and talk with him for hours about what we belive in and how we think the world works. I need to meet that guy.

Got concerned for a little bit there, I thought you recorded him saying exactly what his tattoos meant and I know he doesn't want it getting out there. Honestly, I think it's very hard telling people what you believe in and I'm glad Tyler understands that. I also like that he's kind enough to let fans know about something so personal to him (face to face, I mean). Him and Josh just seem so open and accepting to everybody. I hope I get to meet him one day and ask him about his tats.
What I absolutely love about this community is that Tyler has probably explained his tattoos to hundreds of people, but you won't find the story anywhere online. That to me is serious trust. I'm so happy to have found this clique.

I was terrified of watching this, so I paused before it started and read the comments. I couldn't have watched this if someone recorded what he was actually explaining. This is so beautiful and meaningful, I teared up when he started explaining that he didn't wanna talk about his specific beliefs when he had a microphone and was speaking to an audience because that made it too easy to press beliefs on people or at least to seem like he's trying to press his beliefs, but that he's willing to have that conversation personally when it's not so one sided... That's honestly so noble and powerful and I wish more people would think that way, instead of taking control of power and status to push their messages on others...
That's because (from what I can see) Josh's sleeve is things like space, nature, etc. Tyler's are more abstract (?) which probably makes people wonder about what they are

Tyler is that friend that you'll sit and talk about crazy weird stuff about the universe or just really crazy meaningful stuff! He's also that friend that if you'll call him at like 2 or 3 in the morning telling him your problems and he'll be there and start telling you meaningful stuff to you that will make you feel better! I want a friend like Tyler!!
I wouldn't because that's just how I feel about it. I don't think it's my business to know. They are personal to him, but there is nothing stopping you! I know plenty of people have asked him before but I don't know if he answered them. I guess it's up to you.

Tyler will tell you but he is very personally about them. you'll gain his trust and how he says "I'll be holding onto you" he'll trust so much that you won't tell anyone. I want to ask him and tell him my own meaning from what I've learned by listening to his songs. he shouldn't take it to offense
my guesses are: 1. the one below his shoulder is a cross. Tyler is religious religious so this would make sense 2. I know the x on his arm represents his hometown- I think he stated this in an interview somewhere & josh has the same one behind his ear. 3.(this one is far fetched but stay with me) when Tyler was younger he used to always have a rubber band around his wrist. some people keep them on their wrists to snap when they have an urge to cut. I could be completely wrong, and I'm not saying this is what Tyler had it for. but the tattoos he has around his wrist could represent this and serve as a reminder.
I absolutely love this guys subtlety. Maybe it's in part because I'm not religious or spiritual, but I really appreciate the effort he puts into avoiding directly talking about his spirituality and religious beliefs. He won't even say "it's a cross" and move on. It's obvious throughout his art that it's his primary influence, but it isn't his message, at least not blatantly. He believes in his faith more honestly than anyone I've ever seen, because he doesn't feel the need to give you the answer, that if you keep asking the right questions you'll wind up there on your own. That's powerful, and I respect the hell out of that.

Tyler is great (and Josh too of course) and I really agree with his vision on tattoos. I like how he's open when it's appropriate but saves his personal views and stories for the people who are genuinely interested. I think they're role models of how "famous people" should behave and treat their fans and I feel like I really belong in the skeleton clique. Also I thought it was funny this was discussed at Karma Records and my first tattoo says "karma" in the Sanskrit language. =)
Very good thoughts. I appreciate that he doesn't want the meaning of his tattoos on the Internet, and this explains the reasons behind that quite well. I'm also impressed that it's not out on the Internet there yet--or if it is, I haven't come across it. But it will be put out there eventually. :/
if someone just arranges a campfire event with the guys and the clique and let us stay overnight, and let us eat dinner together, and sing campfire songs, meet new friends, eat breakfast together, sing on the bus while going to the airport for some guys who lives out of the states, then that would be great.
I had the fortunate chance of meeting Tyler on July 7th 2015 and t the Sydney Metro theatre on their Australian tour. I was leaning against the fire exit and he opened it and almost knocked me over lol. He said sorry and then asked how the concert was, I was in awe I couldn't believe he was in front of me talking to me. I showed him my tøp tattoos and he ran his finger along one of them and said "oh yeah! I've seen this on Instagram, I love it, it's awesome!" And then the question I had been waiting to ask since 2010 was what his tattoos meant, and he told me and I'll take those words to the grave. He's such a kind, gentle person, very quiet but his voice has been the loudest in my life in all of my down moments. He told me to stay alive and that was it. Then they got big and famous and I can't see them.performing another small concert like they did at the metro again. I'd love to see them live again but not surrounded by screaming 13 year old girls, I miss the intimacy they have with fans and if I ever get the opportunity to go to a small concert with them again, I'll pay any amount of money. That was the greatest night of my life and I'll never forget it. |-/
Accomyx I agreed with you for the first parts of your comment but then you had to mention age...? I don’t think it matters how old people are at concerts because the clique is a family and I’m sure Tyler and Josh are grateful for everyone of us no matter what age. As someone who’s known tøp since I was 12, it sucks to still see people saying that all the big concerts(of course they’ll have younger fans now, they’re super popular) are “screaming 13 year old girls.” Just let them have their fun dude, just like you did. I mean, just because you’re older doesn’t mean you’re automatically a bigger fan and superior to the ones who are really excited(like screaming and crying)at concerts. That’s just my input though, I know your comment didn’t have to do with it at all. It was cool you got to meet him though. I’m going to the Boston show on Oct 26(for the Trench tour). This is the first time I’m getting pit tickets to any concert so I hope I at least get the first few rows and maybe even hold his hand :). It kind of sucks that they don’t sell VIP tickets(because tbh I’d pay thousands for them)but I understand why.
Explaining tattoos sucks. I only have one so far, but it's only been two weeks and I already hate trying to explain my religion (paganism) and just say "I like the moon" Tattoos are kinda personal and when someone doesnt know you well it can be difficult to talk about it
+Jayden Quick Yeah...that's something I've heard from people. And I know what you mean when you say you'd feel bad. Because most times, a tattoo like that has a very personal, often powerful message behind of it. I know mine does. To get the exact replica of someone's can be either really respectful or the exact opposite. Usually those who know that individual on a personal level are in the "respectful" group. I don't know if you know Markiplier from RU-vid, but he said the only tattoo he'd get was the one his late father had. There's a connection between them and it's empowering and emotional for him. If a fan of Mark's got his dad's tattoo, that'd be highly offensive. So it's not really a fine line, I guess. You could take something of theirs and use it to inspire your own design, which I think would be endearing without taking away from their original purpose.

That's really cool. I love that he won't push anything on anyone. Probably why I will get more tattoos. Personal conversations. That's what makes us human and social.
Everyday I think up conversations I could have with Tyler and josh if I met them. I can only dream that one day one, of the hundreds I’ve dreamt up, could become a reality.
as much as i want to know id never ask someone that knows what they mean to tell me. they *_promised_* tyler to not tell anyone. they had a personal conversation with him and even if i asked i think it'd be very rude to tell me in any way
And this is why I love this fandom. We (as fans of these guys) respect them and their wishes enough to not go crazy as soon as we find out what they mean. We keep it to ourselves, and that makes it all the more special
sadly I'll probably never get the chance to ever meet him, let alone see him live... I still want to know the amazing deep story behind them, just see how the kindest cutest funniest person ever got to how he was an what he's reminded of every time he sees those tattoos.

It's reasons and explanations like this that are the reason why I love this band so much. They make you think. Tyler supports you using your mind and using what you believe in and to me, that is just so beautiful. It shows that he cares about maintaining who we are as PEOPLE because we can so easily get carried away with this 'big' idea that just because he is in a band that he is different but he's not and use that as an excuse for just assuming his life is in the open. I love the idea of making us think and going to another level with his fans. |-/

It's just makes me sad... and I just want to cry!! It's painful!! And it's the first time in my life, that I feel something like that!!! My dream is, to one day, meat my second family!!! Honestly, Tyler is the kind of person I would call in the middle of the night/morning, and cry to. I would tell him my feeling and life thoughts. I would thank him for understanding me.
Sometimes I daydream about meeting him in public like on a airplane or something and actually be able to have a conversation w him and ask all the questions I've had since I discovered them. I love him so much and i wish one day i get the chance to tell him
i just wish i could have a conversation with tyler. not a quick one but a long one maybe an hour or two. and we could just talk about his tattoos, life, how we got here, what our purpose is and things like that.
I don't know them but if something was wrong Tyler would be the one I would call after midnight if something was wrong and I bet he would answer his phone and probably stay with me until I was better and I would want to be around him if I went through a series of breakdowns
he seems like such a cool guy. i can imagine sitting with him on my living room floor really late at night and just talking about deep, philosophical things. he seems like a rly cool guy to do that kind of stuff with and it makes me sad to know i wont ever get to have a conversation with him.
That's a great point Tyler made. It isn't fair for him to have this personal conversation with an audience with a microphone, because he won't get a reply like you would talking one on one. To have a real conversation especially about beliefs, he can't have the larger voice ( microphone).
We don't know what a lot of the tattoos are for and obviously he wants to be the one to tell you in person which is really cool. But the crosses are because he's a Christian. The boxes are for his darkness and the cross is God's light. Its something that saved his life, he believes that Christ saved him. He uses his tattoos to tell others about this and probably doesn't want to talk about it while he's standing with a microphone representing the band
