Alonso's comment concerning, "even grading on a Tyler Perry curve, this Tyler Perry movie fails" is hysterical. I always appreciate the smartly ironic along with a dash of sarcasm in a movie review. Thank you Alonso, Christy and Matt. I already subscribe to Netflix, so even though there's no cash to waste, knowing this movie would make a reasonable companion to Marie Kondo-ing my abode is valuable data.

You know, I hate that Netflix doesn't give the thumbs down option. All it gets/give is the option to watch and get numbers up but not to give it a thumbs down.

Is there overacting in A FALL FROM GRACE? Yes, but only in 1 or 2 scenes. The rest of the time, the performances are very good. That means that it's not the actors' fault; Tyler Perry's directing is. In fact, while the story sounds relatively interesting on paper, he doesn't present it in a way that grabs the viewer. For the most part, the movie is stuck in a "Not boring yet not gripping" limbo. 4/10 *Spoilers ahead* 1) One of the protagonists is a lawyer named Jasmine Bryant. One might argue that her screw-ups shouldn't be classified as plot holes, since her inexperience is part of her character arc. However, they're worse than rookie mistakes. Throughout her (clearly normal) life, has she never been exposed to courtroom dramas, even though they're on TV literally every day? Some things about trials have become common knowledge. In order to make sure her client Grace Waters doesn't go to jail, she asks Grace's friend Sarah Miller to lie while testifying. Why don't they practice what she'll say on the stand?! How is Jasmine surprised that there's evidence that contradicts what Sarah is saying?! Why isn't Sarah punished for lying under oath?! 2) Rory Garruax (Jasmine's boss) thinks it's a bad idea for the case to go to trial. He considers it important enough to visit Grace, yet he walks out the door after only asking 1 question? 3) Grace tells Jasmine that someone pretended to be her and stole her money from her bank account right after marrying a man she hadn't known for very long (named Shannon DeLong)... and Grace couldn't put 2 and 2 together? And don't tell me that she was blinded by love. While she was making calls to try to solve this problem, she was afraid that Shannon was cheating on her. If she was already suspicious about him in one way, why not in another way too? Also, no one she knew could've suggested that he was conning her? It turns out that he was both a con artist and a cheater. As a matter of fact, he would brings women to the house and had sex with them while Grace was there. Those scenes are very cartoonish yet played completely straight. 4) It's revealed that Sarah is actually Shannon's mom (they're using fake names). They've worked together for years. Shannon does the same thing to any middle-aged woman while Sarah runs a residence for old women in order to steal their social security money. This is a good twist. I didn't see it coming and everything adds up when looking back at the previous scenes. However, there's also a ridiculous twist: Sarah keeps the old women locked up in her basement. While this doesn't contradict anything presented in the plot, it feels like it came from an entirely different movie. How can she pull this off without anyone knowing? She's greedy, yet her plan requires her to spend a lot of money? I mean, she has to feed a lot of people and keep them healthy enough to live despite being in bad conditions. 5) One of Sarah's prisoners (who for some reason is allowed to wander around the house and even manages to get out of the house with no problem) is named Alice. When talking to Jasmine, she mentions an address. Jasmine remembers hearing it before and realizes that it's a clue to solve the puzzle. However, Grace is the one who was told about that address in the past (by a woman who works at her bank). Does Jasmine remember Grace telling her that? No, the scene of Grace talking to the woman is shown as a flashback. Is Jasmine a psychic?! 6) Jordan Bryant (Jasmine's husband) is the worst movie cop I've seen in years! He arrests a criminal, he receives a call and tells the criminal to not move while he checks his computer inside his car. What criminal would listen to that order?! In real life, criminals still try to run despite being handcuffed! Hell, they even try to run while officers handcuff them! He finds out that Sarah has criminal records (don't prosecutors look for these kinds of things in order to have leverage over the defense's witnesses?) and drives away, leaving the criminal behind! Why not take the criminal with him you and have him wait in the car while going to Sarah's house?! Speaking of, after being given a good reason to go inside despite not having a warrant, he doesn't point a gun at Sarah and tell her to put her hands up! Ummm... That's the first thing a cop must do! Even children do it when they're playing! No, he passes by Sarah and tries to go to the basement and he's somehow surprised when she tries to attack him! I see why he married Jasmine: A couple of unprofessional lovebirds! 7) Even though Shannon is killed and Grace is declared not guilty, Sarah escapes and we see that she'll continue conning. Will she be able to do it without her accomplice, who by the way she isn't even shown crying over? They hire her without doing a background check?! How can she get away with it when her face and both of her names were all over the news?!

It seems like being a film critic would be a good job. But then they have to sit through so many crummy films.

I liked it! I had never seen a Tyler Perry film before and just stumbled upon it. It was essentially a soap opera, why did you expect more? Critics, sheesh! Lol
