I am a wild girl at heart and from my personality. I try to travel as much as possible and do things that challenge and scares me. I’ve had guys leave me and break my heart because of simply being me and not afraid to live my life. I’ve had guys try to change me. But you know? Screw those who don’t understand. Had a serious boyfriend a long time ago. The one I thought I'd marry. But for all the things he loved about me, he also wanted me to speak a certain way. Not associate with certain people. And wouldn't it be interesting if my face were just a little bit different? He loved me a lot but he sure wanted to smother me, too. He might want to date around, first, but I should (subtext) just wait for him. Yeah, no. Several years later, when I was stronger and had time to grow up, I met someone who didn't try to tell me what kind of career I should have. Where I should work. How I should dress. How much I should or shouldn't cuss! That I shouldn't try to go do the things that would help me overcome my fear of flying, heights, public speaking, all of it. Thirty-some years later, still together. I've had the career I wanted (so far!), I've flown in a biplane to overcome my fear of flying. Because of that, I was able to fly all over the world. To be invited to speak at conferences on five continents. To climb up Table Mountain in South Africa (no longer afraid of heights) and see beautiful wild animals on safari. To climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia (41 stories high). To go to countries and do things I didn't used to think I'd do. Sometimes what feels like love is really control. It's love...but not the love you need for the life you want. Here's to all the wild girls and women! And here's to all the good men who "get it."
