Tyne Tunnel 2 - Transporting the final section of tunnel from Wallsend to Howdon

Tyne Tunnel 2 has been built in four 90m sections at a dry dock in Wallsend, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Here we see the fourth and final section of tunnel being floated out of the dock where it was built and being towed down river by three Svitzer tugs. Towards the end of the clip you will see the Tyne Pilot in charge, Mark Reynolds. Tugs are, Svitzer Maltby aft. Rowangarth port bow and Yarm Cross starboard bow.

Aye, well you can always tell folk that you were one of the first people to 'USE' the Second Tyne Tunnel, albeit use as a platform to shott some video ;-) Great stuff Alan. Regards Steve

@dtr4eva Yes it is. There were four 90m sections built in a dry dock on the Tyne. They were then floated down the river (seen in this clip) to the site of the new tunnel, submegred, joined together and the water inside them pumped out.
