Tyne & Wear Metro! (Part 1)
I explore the Me'ro, which serves Newcastle, Tyneside, Gateshead & Sunderland. Part 1 covers a brief history of the system, and the network north of the Tyne, namely the Airport branch and the Tyneside Loop. Also features the start of the Blyth/Ashington line.

There wasnt gonna be a Metro station at Byker originally,they were going convert Heaton but they changed their mind,it was also gonna go further than St James which is half the reason the tunnels extend further than the station,but Thatcher spoilt that

And the track to ashington will be used by northern with a station added at Northumberland park to connect with metro although it would just be easier just to connected to the metro system and just run it as part of the metro. And not northern

I actually wrote to Ian Levvy the MP for the area asking if it could be integrated with the metro or at least let the use of pop cards on it. makes it easier than to have 2 separate tickets.

I heard from nexus that 2 units are going to be kept of heritage reasons, I have also contacted nexus that when Howden satellite depot is finished why it cant't be turned into a visitor/Educational centre with the overheads permanently de energised and a 2 car metro unit kept on site in the shed permanently to educate the dangers of metro and the possibility giving younger children the experience as if they were driving the metro train, It could also tell the story from start to present how metro was evolved into the transport system today

It's definitely an interesting system, didn't expect it in a city the size of Newcastle. I loved my trips when I was there. And gorgeous station canopies in Monkseaton and Tynemouth, that don't cover anything... Why? Just why?

The batteries on the new fleet will only be for when the is a over head power issue not to run on none electrified rail but with battery technology getting better every year that is probably possible in the future.

@@DavidFrankal Never mind, they should be running on the Subway next time you are in these parts! I have a couple of videos up on my channel of the new Subway trains on the text rack if you are interested. The Subway have the trackbed of the old Govan branch as a test track, running from near the site of Ibrox Station south to Govan where the subway depot is. They used it for testing the 1980 trains and it was mostly derelict until a couple of years ago. It's now been rebuilt to a high spet and they've built a couple of sheds and you can get great views from where the line passes under the road.

2:53 are 30 minute headways normal for the system or is that a COVID thing? It's not really a metro-style service if you can't turn up and go.
@harrytrains37
@harrytrains37 2 года назад
It's usually a 12 minute frequency on the yellow and green lines making a 6min frequency in the core during the day
@DavidFrankal
@DavidFrankal 2 года назад
At 2:53 the next train is in 17 minutes, the one after in 32
@andrew_ray
@andrew_ray 2 года назад
@@DavidFrankal the 17 minute train is the other line though, isn't it? So you could get ~15 minute frequency here where both lines are parallel, but ~30 minute frequency elsewhere.
@jayamber4448
@jayamber4448 2 года назад
@@andrew_ray Yes, it's normal for the network to be running reduced frequency due to staff shortages, mechanical issues with the trains etc. It's not ideal, hopefully it'll be solved when the new trains arrive.

Suppose you haven't heard that Tyne and Wear Metro have ordered new rolling stock from Stadler which will be Class 555. Yep that's right Class 555 for the Tyne and Wear Metro. And it should be entering service from 2022/23. So you probably would want to watch out for these new rolling stocks from Stadler. :)

@@DavidFrankal Indeed. And also Stadler are also manufacturing the new rolling stocks for Glasgow subway and I think it should be classed in the Class 4xx or Class 5xx which it does run on 3rd Rail underneath Glasgow. And even Stadler to manufacture new London Underground tube stocks for the Bakerloo Line, Central Line and Waterloo & City Line. I probably would think that Stadler should build a UK train manufacturing plant and to manufacture new trains and rolling stocks in the UK.
