3:18 That is the estimated lock range for a fixed wing jet using IR mode. Helicopters produce significantly less heat, and therefore, must be closer for your seeker to acquire them. It also depends on the helicopter. For instance, with FIM-92 Stingers, some helis such as alouettes may need to be as close as 2km for my IR seeker to pick them up. But I've locked early Hinds from as far out as 4km since they're so hot. Lock range for IR and/or contrast seekers isn't so much a fixed number so much as it is a spectrum depending on heat and/or size + aspect
@@Dovahkiin520 Yes, it should matter, and does IRL. You cannot lock your average helicopter at the same range you would a jet. They simply don't produce as much heat. Now, something like an Mi-24 without shielding ABSOLUTELY produces similar heat to smaller jets that aren't in afterburner. But this is not the norm. Additionally, the IRST system used to detect the aircraft in question is FAR more sensitive than the small IR seeker in the actual missile. Like, orders of magnitude more sensitive.
It's mostly just envy talking anyways. Compare it to the strela m2 tier for tier. It's the same kind of ridiculousness. Strela now got buffed twice and didn't move either.
3:19 this happens for the chinese PGZ04 as well, it says it has a decent lock range but it's only reliable around 2.5-3.5km even in clear skies and while burning 110%. Even heli's I regularly have to close in on them while they hover because the stupid shit just won't lock.
It defaults to optical targeting being auto-selected, which is how there were successful locks gotten at ranges over the stated 6km on the stat card. In that particular scenario though, the low contrast (against the cloudy background) coupled with the extreme range for the IR seeker was what gave him trouble locking.
I might be dumb but how do you lock onto enemy aircraft with that radar like green square on a vehicle with no radar? It doesn’t work on my assigned key when I’m playing type 81 or type 93
Now nobody’s gonna play the type 95! Honestly gaijin can you stop ruining this game and fix Russian mbt damage models for like five minutes? Is that too hard an ask?
