Hello, It depends how much how the sequence is duplicated, but it could be this for example: Original: TAC TTC AGG TGG Duplication mutation: TAC TTC AGG TTC AGG TGG In this case, the mutation was that TTC AGG was duplicated

Hi i noticed that your whole of topic 4 video doesn't include inversion and translocation. I understand that the video is supposed to be a summary but were these left out because they aren't as important/ dont/ haven't come up much in past papers? I'm in yr13 and trying to just breifly overveiw topic that i don't have notes on due to time.

Hey, Those two mutations are only on the specification for topic 8, and do not come up in topic 4. Topic 4 states only substitution and deletion gene mutations are required. I hope that helps

Hi miss, I'm just a bit confused on translocation. How does translocation lead to a mutation because don't all the cells contain the entire DNA and so the proteins produced as result of translocation wouldn't be a problem because it would be produced anyways?

This is a translocation mutation, not translocation, they’re different

May I ask, why do you refer to it as codons rather than triplets if it is the dna not the mrna we are talking about?

a codon is there bases in mrna than codes for an amino acid

Hi, I really enjoyed the video! I think there may be an error in the translocation section of the video. You said that it is when a section of bases is moved from one chromosome to another. However, my CGP book says that it can be movement within the same chromosome or to a different chromosome.

Does a different sequence of bases in one chromosome as a result of translocation mutation result in that chromosome producing a non functional protein/enzyme?

Hello, yes it can do because it may not be the entire gene that tranalocates and this means the DNA base sequence for that gene is then disrupted. Hope that helps 😊

This video is topic 8 for AQA, in topic 4 you learn chromosomes mutations and gene mutations (but only substitution and deletion)

Hello, It is in topic 4 as well. The spec states 'Gene mutations involve a change in the base sequence of chromosomes. They can arise spontaneously during DNA replication and include base deletion and base substitution. Due to the degenerate nature of the genetic code, not all base substitutions cause a change in the sequence of encoded amino acids. Mutagenic agents can increase the rate of gene mutation.'

callum u nerd 😂 nah but thats good though it most definitely will help u lot although this topic, you learn right at the end of year 2 so I think its worth going over year 1 AS topics first your'll see a good overlap from GCSE to a level in year 1 content too
