Type3 camper van CLEAN DOWN and BODYWORK analysis!! Lots of rust!!!

This type 3 or t25 (as my dad corrected me on) camper van will be a project on the page with a shed load of work to be getting done, today was just giving all the mould a good jet wash off, to see the rust holes better 🤣🤦🏼‍♂️…
So cleaned down, quick body work assessment and list of jobs made, take a couple of rubbers off around the boot and sliding door which are perished… ready to start attacking all of the metal work seen in this video ..

I love that you’re away to keep this old friend out of the scrappies and get her back on the road, and the fact you’ve got such a fun wee sidekick along for the journey will just make it all the more fun for you and all the better viewing for us 👌🏽

Good luck. This has given me a boost to sort my mx 5 out. i was on the verge of selling it, which I didn't want to as it was a gift from the Mrs.

@Razcal_Worx no it's got an m.o.t. just in the middle of wire brushing the underside, then giving it a wax oil. Mechanicaly, it's perfect only done 65k, but it's only the 1.6 , it's got one window not working, and the hood is knackered and the speakers don't work mainly just annoying little things that add up.

I’m 2 years into a project pretty much the same except with less rust… I can give you some advice.. I am not being negative but realistic.. it will cost £10k plus if you intend doing bodywork spraypaint brakes suspension bushes electrics etc and that was doing all the work myself.. if I were in your position now I would sell that van asap and pay the extra money for a van in good nick.. I completely underestimated the time I would have to put into it.. I would say I put approx 50 working days into it over the 2 years which is worth £15,000 at 300/day… so you will have put 25k in parts and labour and the van will not be worth more than 10/12k with a good finish.. again not to be negative but something to reflect on before you’re in too deep to turn back!

@@g-sailing4427 I hear what you saying mate and thanks for the comment. I’m not one for weighing up the numbers though, I enjoy what I do and it’s a project I’m doing with my dad also which will be fun in itself.. and stressful I do agree. I would be grateful for advice if and when needed though that would be great but I’m passionate about vdubs and plan to get this one roadworthy and enjoy the journeys .. cheers 🍻

Yes loads to do.. not sure on the ladders will find out for you, very sturdy though with good size standing platform

That is a type 2, the type 3 was the Variant/Notchback/Karman Ghia

@@ChrisandHeathervanlife .. hey thanks, my dad corrected me when I called it a type 2 in a previous video . The high top hasn’t been fitted from the factory. Will have to ask him again . Thanks for the info

I can't image that someone actually expresses a dislike to the actual video, more a dislike to what he is about to face, let's face it, this is going to be a (not going to be a labour of love), but a constant battle of keeping your head above water.

@@Normanskie It must have been a glitch on my side as it returned to zero. I understand; that it will be very time-consuming, but if he preps it well and does the work you should do properly, it should turn out great overall. I just purchased a wee 82' Toyota HiAce Pop-Top last week and I've got rust on it too (the whole underside of the slide-out door rusted through including the top of the roof lining) but hope that it'll come out good as well. I wish luck to him in hopes that he'll successfully have it presentable again :)

Not sure about the 15000 dislikes zero here too.. thanks for the kind words. A lot of hard work blood sweat and tears ahead but yes the aim is to get it presentable useable and comfortable again 😊

The problem is going to be the Structural integrity of the Van when it's done. Will it be safe in the unfortunate event of an accident. Hmm, best of luck with it.

It's a great project but it's the rust that you can't see that would bother me. Rust behind panels and in box sections etc !

To true, rust gets everywhere once it starts. Had to rebuild the chassis structure before fitting new inner and outer sills on my mk3 golf so I’m aware of how far back the rust can go. Thanks for the warning though, just goin to have to embrace the rust and get cutting 💪
