Royal Air Force (RAF) 29 Squadron Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4, ZJ942, flown by Flight Lieutenant Adam O'Hare, the RAF Typhoon Display pilot for 2022, displaying over the sea at Eastbourne during Eastbourne Airbourne Airshow 2022. The first part of the display includes paired flypasts with the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IIa, P7350, before both aircraft split and the Typhoon flies an energetic and aerobatic solo display. 67 years separate this Spitfire and Typhoon's respective production and in service dates.
Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4 ZJ942 first flew on 28th August 2007 and was delivered to the Royal Air Force on 8th November 2007. It has previously been assigned to 3(F) Squadron and XI(F) Squadron both at RAF Coningsby, and is currently with 29 Squadron and flown here by
Both the Spitfire and Typhoon are currently based at RAF Coningsby.
Spitfire P7350, flown by Flight Lieutenant Andy Preece MBE, is the only Spitfire still flying today which actually flew and fought in the Battle of Britain. It was part of the first batch of Spitfires built at the Castle Bromwich ‘shadow’ factory and was taken on charge by the RAF on 13th August 1940.
