I wish I could have seen this video a few weeks ago! I just got home from a wedding in Donegal where we were all Americans, including the couple. There were so many things that we all thought were issues that you mentioned here as being normal. For example, the groom was upset the sliced cake wasn't brought out until midnight snacks because in the US, we typically eat it right after dinner. We also thought it was unprofessional of the DJ to not be ready as dinner ended. Turns out he was just following the typical Irish wedding schedule!
Seems a lot of fun was lost in being upset about 'nothing'. Such a shame to have that cast a shadow on such a special and expensive occasion. Here one sees the importance of speaking things through beforehand and of explaining the order of the day to the guests.

A non traditional wedding in South Africa is very similar (it just finishes a little earlier). A traditional wedding (a Zulu or Xhosa wedding can go on for days but has a very different format). Some couples have both. In our circle it's usually just the wedding as you have described. I have a "thing" about wedding gifts. I never give money or vouchers and always give a gift but this is not a toaster or kettle etc, it would be something that would be cherished like a crystal vase or personalised item. 35 years later these are the gifts that are special to us when the money, although appreciated, is long gone. Yes, “Social Etiquette” is certainly a very interesting thing and a very important (yet commonly-neglected) element of many people’s lives (especially at Weddings, I’d assume)…Unfortunately, lots of people who are on the [Autism] Spectrum (such as myself, as I’m Autistic) struggle to grasp “Social Etiquette” and I’m by no means an exception to these universally-experienced deficits experienced by many people within the Autism Community…It’s interesting how so many cultures have their own set of “Social Etiquette”…I’ve encountered my own share of different forms of Etiquette…One Example: Etiquette For Communicating With Deaf Persons…My friends are 100% deaf and because I’m Hearing (I can Hear & Understand Speech without any difficulties) but I also don’t know any Sign Language, so I either need to Text or E-Mail my friends back-and-forth to communicate with them or I need to speak to them through an (ASL: American Sign Language) Interpreter…However, there’s a very particular Law of Etiquette I have a tendency to disregard quite often…The d/Deaf & Hard-Of-Hearing Community regards it as impolite to keep looking at their [Sign Language] Interpreter as you speak to them, as they regard it as politer for people to look at the deaf person(s) they’re speaking to, so it appears to them that they’re the ones being spoken to (as opposed to the Interpreter)…Nonetheless, I’m in the really bad habit of always tending to look at my friends’ [Sign Language] Interpreter instead of them…My friends will likely never get to hear the sound of your Voice (and, therefore, never got to learn what your Voice sounds like), let alone ever notice your Accent; nonetheless, they enjoy “Reading”/Watching your Videos just the same…My friends find it interesting whenever you try to describe what the Irish Accent sounds like, as they can then use their imaginations… . Future Video Idea: Have you ever considered posting a Video about the differences between Irish & Scottish Culture, Accents, etc.? I think that would make for a very lovely Future Video idea…Just Saying…Keep the good Videos coming…Fun Fact: There’s a very rare Brain Disorder known as “Foreign Language Syndrome” where a person who had either sustained a Brain Injury or endured Emotional Trauma suddenly experience an abrupt change in Accent, with the most common newly-acquired Accent being the Irish Accent…For Example: I’ve watched (here on RU-vid) some Australian News Reports of women who had all their lives spoken with the Australian Accent and then suddenly woke up one day and began sounding as though they’re from Ireland…And I’m meanwhile from the Boston, Massachusetts area, which is a well-known for being home to lots of Irish people; although, I myself am not Irish but, rather, am ½ Jewish (by my mother’s family)…If you ever heard me speak, you’d likely perceive me to have a very noticeable American Accent and you’d also likely notice my really, really Annoying, Whiny, Highly-Hypernasal (meaning really Nasally) Voice…Unfortunately, I don’t have that pleasant, easy-to-listen-to Voice that you have…People typically dislike listening to me speak, as they frequently tell me that they find my Voice to be really “Grating”…In Fact: People often love to tease me that the reason why so many of my friends are either d/Deaf or Hard-Of-Hearing is that they don’t have to listen to my really Irritating, Whiny, Nasally Voice…
Yeah, that's a huge difference. The bridal parties seem to be so much bigger in the US too, probably because it's not as expensive to have so many bridesmaids! ☺

I've lived in Ireland for 25yrs but I've not been to a wedding in maybe 10/12yrs. I'm an older woman 59 is it still ok for me to wear black? I'm very much a person who really only feels comfortable in black.
