We are building a cabin in southeast Alaska. It’s an off grid cabin on an island near Juneau. We are towards making a homestead out here and becoming more sustainable through frugal living, hunting, fishing and gardening. Alaska homesteading is more than just words is a way of life. So if you are interested in moving to Alaska or the off grid life click the subscribe button and join us here at My Alaska Dream, where we show what it's like homesteading for beginners.

Big rocks on the beach! Again, if it is allowed then build a 10 meter deep- bay with the big rocks for the season of the boot. It will break waves protect the boot...the rocks are abondend and much and the traktor can lift some of them...other alaskans had done it to. Me be an L- the form of an L- one side against the windside...and the small part of the L as a wave breacker...Greets from Hamburg in Germany.

Actually got several inches of snow. Of course it was gone in a couple of days and will be almost 70 later this week. Got our little cabin built on Sugarloaf mountain. We need a pump for our water tank but everything else is pretty much done. Keep up the good work on the video's.

Great video Brian!! I loved your sunrise at the opening... it looks like a lot of Texas sunsets... as you well know from being at Ft. Hood. TX does have some of the prettiest sunsets anywhere! I couldn't understand all of the words to the song playing in the background, other than something about a "childhood dream"... My dream of living in Alaska is a "childhood dream" that started in 5th grade!! The summer before my 5th grade year my teacher had spent the summer teaching at the native school in Point Barrow (we're talking like 1964!). The photos, slides and such be brought back to share with us, along with the stories... she set the hook in me for Alaska, and I've never given up on that dream.. I'm so happy that you and your wife are living your Alaska Dream!! My day will be here soon!!

Good luck on your move. Juneau can really be broken down into 3 or 4 sections with subsections. Theirs Downtown, the valley, Douglas Island and what is call “out the road”, which is basically everything past the ferry terminal. I’m not sure what grades your wife teaches but there are two high schools one downtown and one in the valley. Also the closer you get to the glacier the colder it gets in the winter and the more snow you’ll get. Enjoy your visit.

Is that all the snow you have in Alaska in February?
@AnAlaskaHomestead
@AnAlaskaHomestead 3 года назад
It is much different in southeast Alaska than the interior. Living on the coast we can get a foot of snow one day and then it will rain the next day and melt all the snow. Our average temperatures are in the 20s and 30s Fahrenheit during winter.
@LovingOffGrid

@cedricgates9976
@cedricgates9976 3 года назад
is this a normal winter for you guys howmuch snow do you usually get
@AnAlaskaHomestead
@AnAlaskaHomestead 3 года назад
It started off on the warm side but lately it’s been like a regular winter. We live in a rain forest so it rains a lot. And we hover around 32 degrees in the winter so we will get a lot of snow for a few days. Then it will warm up and rain for a few days and melt all the snow. It’s back and forth like that all winter. So we never accumulate a few feet of snow like some of Alaska further north than us. Plus living along the coast keeps the temps warmer too. However in the summer we never get hot either. We hang around 60 degrees all summer. If we hit 80 degrees it’s like a heat wave here.
