@@bigdaddyaf You can set monkeytype to generate a larger set of English words as well in the settings, but it looks like the set in the video is the default set, and so it is quite a small set by comparison. I get about 120WPM on this set and only 70WPM in quotes.
@@nevmiku Yes. You can set the word base to be over 400k English words and anywhere in between, basically. Better than that, you can set it to be any major programming language. But while going for world records, you'd be insane to handicap yourself by using anything other than the 200 English words used by default.

I was stuck at like 100-110 for a long while, then slowly moved to 120s after a few years, then years later 130s, and I've been there for a while. Now the same test I just hit 157. I'm blown away at this improvement. That being said if there's a lot of punctuation or capitalization and stuff I am still slow af.

Hey there, you may want to activate that keyboard but it will hinder your ability to touch type if you are still in the learning stage. You may want to rely solely on 'feeling' and your fingers may want to 'know' where each letter is on the board. To verify if you have typed correctly, you may want to stick to the text output itself. I average between 80-90wpm (depending on if my arthritis is acting up) and people are often impressed and think I "type fast", but I dont think many of them have seen actual fast typers. Now *this* is impressive!
@@compositeur8455well, the average reading speed is about 250 words per minute, so it's not implausible that he has an above average speed and is therefore reading it as he's going.
just came here to say that everyone's pr's are still incredible, yknow typing over 150 or my pr (208 wpm) is still incredible, 305 wpm is not the norm, this guy's a different breed 😂
@@zzderp sure it might be more comfortable to work with colemak, and I personally know 4 different alternate layouts and am semi-proficient in all of them and none will give you any sort of advantage.

@@xocomaoxyou're overlooking a major difference though. Stenographers use specialised keyboards called stenotypes, that allow them to type out syllables and even entire words or phrases in a single motion. You should look them up btw, they're pretty interesting. On normal keyboards, it's one motion per letter. So he needs to be significantly faster for a lower output. I'm not trying to downplay stenographers or anything, it would be unbelievably hard to maintain 200+ wpm speeds for the length of court sessions without a specialised keyboard. But all I'm saying is that it's not a 1:1 comparison.

How did you do this one? I spent two years Relearn to switch to Colemak and do 132WPM on average with 99-100% accuracy. In the fastest in my highschool, and everyone knows me as the wizard on the keyboard, I’ve never lost a typing match… you must have a similar experience in high school :D
when I was 12 I was on a really old laptop which lagged. even on monkey type. I ended up getting like 600 words per minute due to the lag just putting all the inputs at once for 15 seconds..
I was just looking for typing records and I was like, "wait, I seen his name on Typeracer!" Not for nothing, but... is this the nail in the coffin for DVORAK? If one of the fastest can do it on the allegedly slower QWERTY format?
