Tyr is my favorite Norse gods, his loss of arm and association with a wolf reminds me of Nuada, an Irish god of war and hounds. They both lost their arms and kingship. Tyr is the Norse counterpart to Mithra. Thank you.....linking him to Mars was brilliant

The wolf..specifically..is FENRIR!

The Mars connection may be found in Wikipedia. I’m more interested in the connection to Mithra. If I understand it right, the Indo-Iranian Mithra is meant, NOT the Indian or Avestani versions. Any further ideas?

My family are actually descended from those associated with Tyr. Especially Teiwaz the original form of Tyr from Germanic myth. And the associated bear skin is part of my name. Hardy as a bear.

In modernity we seem to fixate on Thor. Yes he kills the world serpent.. but he was the god of thunder because thunder and storms bring RAIN. Rain needed to fulfill his most important title.. the god of farming. He was way more important to the Vikings for bringing crops than anything. And TYR was seen among them as who to call to during war.. not THOR..

Incorrect. Freyr is the god of rain in Norse mythology

It would actually be Freyr

You are right. Tyr was a god whose cult was particular to the warrior aristocracy. This hereditary class (varna) were responsible for law enforcement. This meant they were tasked with preventing chaos symbolized by Loki and Fenrir. Non warriors might see the selfless and heroic ethic of Tyr as the acts of a “fool”.

Loki claims one of his children had his way with Tyr's wife. Well, Loki has 3 children; Hel, Jormangandr, and Fenrir. The child that has the closest relation to Tyr is Fenrir, who bit off his hand. I am thinking this is what Loki is referring to. The joke being Tyr's wife is his hand, aka he's a jerkoff. Loki is one funny entity.

I am so sorry, but there is a swedish professor who is the father of history studies in Sweden. His name is prof Sven Lagerbring. Lived a long time ago. His books are well known except for the repressed ones not even translated for sale. You see he studied all the norse Sagas attempting to trace where Odin Thor came from. He found the answers within the Ynglingesagas pages. Oden was a wandering king spreading knowledge writing metallurgy and had a son names Tur. Prof Lagerbrings book is titled, Our Ancestors were Turks, as the saga plainly says they came from east from turklands.. Our 5000 year old rune alphabet is identical with the vikings more recent rune alphabet. Only two peoples ever used this writing, found in scandinavia and in the north siberian steppes. Google turkic rune stones foubd in present day Mongolia for comparison.

Interesting! Does it have to be Mongol Turks, though? Can it be regular Turks? I can make a compelling case for the latter…

@mythos the historian I heard about an even that is supposed to happen when tyr and garm are to kill each other. Tyr is to slay the hound but before he himself is killed (and sorry for the reference here but it's all I got to work with) there is some sort of dimensional rift that is allegedly caused by Oden the all father in which Tyrs life is spared but he is imprisoned in a cell in the dimension he winds up being sent to by Oden. After Tyr's imprisonment Oden is said to of spread the lie that Tyr is dead. I haven't read anywhere of Tyr escaping or anything past that point but it might lend some (if nothing else) asumptionary truth to Oden NOT actually being of Asgardian decent. Not like that's ever happened in Asgard anywhere else along the time line (Loki). Anyhow I think it's interesting enough to explore into some at any rate. Look forward to seeing what you might be able to uncover on the subject. The video was great and well told. Thank you for dropping some wisdom on a hard to find topic of my ancestry. Keep up the good work!
