I love how this channel covers such a wide diverse amount of content and they always do it in a way that is so interesting and informative this channel is so underrated
I love how insane the Tyranids are, apparantly having already destroyed 12 or so galaxies, they are not even a faction at this point, just a part of the great universe that has decided to start....just start, thinking about maybe wiping out the Milky Way.
Always find it funny how the Tyranids are often seen as the least malicious or evil of the factions. They run off pure instinct their methods may be gruesome but they are likened to a wasp injecting their eggs into a live worm to be consumed from the inside out. They don't do it to be sadistic but it's all they know and how they survive.
Until you read more about them and realize they likely have a non sentient but highly intelligent hive mind. The way they control their own troops always goes upwards towards more intelligent forms. Can something be considered evil if it's capable of communicating without self awareness? Like a Chinese room almost.
Orcs just want to have a good time. It's just that their definition of a good time is rather extreme. An orc will laugh just as hard when his buddy gets blown up as he does when it's the enemy. The important part is someone is exploding.🎉
Great video I really enjoyed listening to this as Warhammer is my favorite lore to listen to. I hope that you guys plan on making more Warhammer lore videos. May I suggest the necrons.
Loved the old school advanced space crusade or tyranid attack board game artwork/models for tyranid warriors. Space marines infiltrate a tyranid vessel and this was the first look at them, they had their organs shown behind their bony ribs and their guns look far more organic then current models.
dude just found your channel fucking hell your like the warhammer David Attenborough i could listen to your voice for hours your my top lore dude now better than luetin09 love your work
The Tau, "mind control," explicitly isn't psychic and is hypothesized to be pheromonal. This could be true for influencing other Tau, but other species from whole other stellar systems shouldn't be affected were that the case. So either they have some undetectable method to influence the minds of those around them, or, far more likely, the Ethereals are just really really good at indoctrination and propaganda. The latter would explain why they are able to swiftly convert humans, but failed so epically at doing the same to space marines, orcs, dark elder, Tyranids, and the forces of chaos that they had to adopt an extermination policy for those groups.

Have a hydra army myself. Just love the cheeky bugs. Another Tyranid fleet and the imperium are duking it out and the imperium barely sneaks by a win forcing them to retreat. Only to watch in horror as a new fleet comes out of seemingly no where eating the weakened fleet while the imperium watches and starts eying the crates upon crates of empty ammunition that they are praying would be full
@@TheFrmx Well, they’re fighting orks there, not Krork. The orks devolved from the Krork a long time ago after the War in Heaven finished. The Silent King sent the Necron into hibernation, among other reasons, to deprive the Krork of the foe they were purpose-built to fight so that they’d stop getting stronger (a plan that worked).
@@profwoland8942Krorks were 14+ feet tall and built like absolute units, think a Primarchs bigger, older brother and weren't as naturally animalistic and violent as the Orks they became. Trazyn has at least 1 in his collection and its a sight to behold in armour comparable (if not better than) Astartes armour. They were walking destruction and cohesive in their tactics and strategies. They were awesome.
Thanks a million (or 40K?) for this vid. I am just now getting into W40K with my husband and friends, and the Tyranids are perfect for me: sci-fi horror at it's best! This vid has really helped me understand them, so thanks a loy!
I collect a lot of my favorite factions in warhammer because of their play style and the way they look. I am predominantly a greenskins player because I love their culture of anarchy. I love the tyranids because of their swarm tactics and that aura of alien terror that they have.1
@@yadakakadu it's not that simple, the flood at their height weren't just infecting biological matter, they were infesting and warping reality itself. The zerg have major powerhouses in their ranks, and Kerrigan at thevend is able to make an unmake the universe as a Xel'naga. And the vhong have already scoured a galaxy clean of life, they'd be able to put up an incredible fight.
@@slimjim877 The flood is the corrupted remains of a failed immortality experiment by the precursors, as I understand it, who originated in a neighbouring galaxy, the zerg just don't compare in sheer numbers and the vhong's kill count is apparently 1 galaxy. What we see from the tyranids are just the mere tips of the vanguard fleets. Their theorized kill count is all galaxies bar ours. The mere mass of the Great Devourer is greater than a small galaxy. At minimum. A more optimistic estimate is only all the biomass in the direction of the "bottom" of the galactic plane, not the entire universe.
@@slimjim877 The zerg are the tyranids. Starcraft was going to be themed with the warhammer IP but GW had some issues with blizzard and pulled out so blizzard just renamed everything. Why do you think that the races are so similar to warhammer factions?
@@thomgizziz I'm aware, but they're very different after a few games, the zerg have more individuals, and different hive mind structure and outside of a few models, very different looks. Plus different levels of power, the zerg are weaker than the nids, but throw in their powerhouses like Kerrigan, Stukov and the brood queen I can't remember the name off, and it's a very different story.
I like how, when the Nids showed up to Baal, the blood angels were about to be nearly wiped out. . . . . . and then some really pissed off Khorne demon shows up and is like "Nobody gets to wipe out Baal but me!"
A surprisingly good video essay on the Tyranid menace, whoare, in my opinion future mans biggest threat by some margin...9 outta 10 guys and more, please 👏👏👏
I am the alpha and the omega. The beginning and the end. I am just Mind, With multiple Mouths. My Hunger is my strength, Your existence your weakness. When we meet, I only have too make one choice. That, is Consume...... PSA by: Shadow in the Warp.
There's likely a King/Emperor Tyranid, a Master-Mind, if you like, a single all controlling brain, probably in a Tyranid Master Fleet, that has not yet arrived ... . Something akin the Great Dragon in Reign of Fire (2002 movie with Christian Bale).
Tyranid and Kaos: I do not understand why the Tyranid do not engage the Daemon Forces, as these are not mere Warp Entities, but physical beings that bleed, and thus can be bio-souped. It would absolutely give them phenomenal abilities, probably even entrance into the warp itself, and thus Warp Domination, which FURTHER empowers them, bolstering their overal success towards their goal. Yet ANOTHER error in the writer's their way to get the humanoids their upperhand, undeservedly so. Like in movies and whatnot. Despicable Anti-Science and Anti-Lore.
Thank the emperor that the chaos gods haven’t found a way to take over these guys. I mean imagine if a being like Khorn had a army like the tyranids under his command the kill count would be insane
Wasn't there a prophecy about how the chaos gods wanted the emperors soul and the great devourer wanted his flesh? So could take it that they are drawn to the galaxy by the overloading of the Pharos but once they arrived as the emperor light the Astronomican would be then reason they keep trying to reach earth.
The prophecy was dantes, but it didn’t say anything about why they were there, it just aaid he would protect the emperor from the devourers os soul and the devourer of flesh as they fought fir the right to kill the emperor
Actually, thinking about it, Tyranid weaponry is not that good to be at least on par with the technologies of other races. Their chitin is insanely tough, but, c'mon, it's chitin. Their weaponry shoots a variety of acids, spikes and bugs, byt they don't have anything even remotely close to an exterminatus (at least as far as i know), and their spaceships kinda suck too, even despite being utterly colossal sometimes. The main strong point of a tyranids isn't their individual power and not even their numbers, but their communication of unparalleled levels. Each organism may be relatively weak, but they all are acting like one intelligent wave of destruction, receiving a dozens of orders each second and following them instantly without a flinch. With the strategic power of a Queens and Tyrants they basically know everything about their enemies and just constantly attacking the weakest spots which being found and re-found in a blink of an eye, and that's why everybody struggles with them. With that level of tactical warfare, the tyranid armies could've consisted out of a little kittens, and even then they'll win against a technologically advanced civilizations.
Here me out, yeah? Chaos needs the human and in Slaanesh's case Aeldari to survive, our thoughts, feelings, dreams, emotions and even actions are necessary for the Chaos Gods and their minions to survive. So what happens if these Tyranid Hive Fleets really are that big and they wipe out the human and Aeldari races? Chaos would literally implode/cease to exist with nothing to feed from. So my question is would humans and chaos ever join forces to rid the galaxy of our biggest threat? I know we've fought alongside the Aeldari and even the Dark Aeldar, i also think the orks but if it was our last hope, would/could we join forces with chaos to wipe out this threat, albeit temporarily just to ensure we survive? Sorry, its long winded but i find the idea both fascinating and somewhat of a paradox. Anyone got any thoughts on this matter? Ty for your time.
Sure, Tyranids are as technologically advanced as they are insatiably vicious. Whose fault is that? Have you ever thought that maybe all a Tyranid needs is a hug? Completely eliminating all life on planets in their path throughout the universe is overcompensating a tad. Clearly, it's a cry for help. Aww. The poor Tyranids. Such a sad and tragic part of Warhammer lore. 😭
Except that we have multiple occasions of Tyranids and Tyranid-like bioforms being encountered in the Milky Way galaxy prior to the destruction of the Pharos.
@@violeth2255lost scout/reconnaissance fleets. It doesn’t change the fact that the Pharos is what attracted the bulk of them, and got the attention of the Hive Mind
@@64ig6kg0 that doesn’t make sense. It’s stated that the Tyranids only cared about the galaxy because there was food, not because its where they were meant to go.
@@oldtoby4062 In other brands, Yes, in 40k, nah. The Primarchs and Legions are far from it. The Tyranids are cool and all but kind of cliché at this point. I would rather see a video about the Tau or Eldar.
13:10 > The word "decimated" does not fit the "staggering cost" you say here, as it implies only a 10% loss. Decimation was historically a punishment of killing any 10th soldier (from Latin word for "ten", "decem" -> decimare)
That's the archaic definition of the word, not it's current one. Hell, for a few centuries, the word was used to refer to tithing, and a few other forms of taxation. Languages evolve over time, especially when stealing words from other languages (as English is wont to do). To insist otherwise is an etymological fallacy; do you use the word "quarantine" to refer solely to the practice of ships sitting at anchor for 40 days before entering a port? Do you think a deadline is the physical line outside a military prison beyond which escapees may be shot? Would you argue that October must be the eighth month of the year?
@@thomgizziz Could you point out where I said it was ONLY English that has loan words? I said English was wont to have loan words. Not the same thing at all, chief.
Tyranids are GW'S version of the Zerg, like Necrons are Terminators. An issue most people miss is that the different hive fleets fight each other, which points to different hive minds for each fleet.
@@Pahricida While the first Tyranid codex was in 1993, they are not considered to have become something like the current form and lore until their second codex in 1999...
@@mr.revrac5602 and others point out hostility between hive fleets, remember all 40k lore is mutable according to GW. After all look at how they lore raped the Black Templars repeatedly. Arguably the most "atheistic" of Chapters and sole keepers of the Emperor's Nikea decree, now whiny Empy worshippers who don't know why Empy took their witches (actually GW seems to have quietly dropped that bit). A pocket Legion at the minimum, totally unaccounted for by all Imperial oversight, with multiple differences from the codex Astartes, into a maybe kinda slightly over strength codex compliant Chapter with an odd troops choice. Then, the one thing the original and retconned versions would agree on, rejection of the Primaris, was hand waved away by GW. The only thing you can trust about the lore, it will be what GW thinks they can make a pence on for the next quarter. For example, Primaris Marines and the various other name changes appear to be in response to GW getting legally slapped down for claiming "space marine" as their IP. So, the "borrowing" of Eldar and rules like "We'll be back" get new names.
@@kamaeq mutable does not change current information, and as of now there is far far more evidence for one hive mind then several, hive fleets fight to test adaptations.
