Puncture repair screws
In this video I detail review some tyre repair screws for cars with or without spare wheels. I hope this helps.
Hello everyone interested enough in this channel to visit here.
I'm just a single Dad whose son wanted his own RU-vid channel to try and make some money because, quite frankly, we're pretty poor. Sadface.
But we're really happy together and I'd do anything for him, including making all sorts of random videos to upload to RU-vid.
As such there's going to be games, reviews of various things and, as I generally can't afford to pay to get things fixed, anything I'm repairing that I can video I'll also upload.
Whatever you're doing folks I hope you're more successful at it that I am, take care and stay safe.
PLEASE SUBSCRIBE.
Peace.

I used a large sheet metal screw ( not wood screw ) for my motorcycle rear tire when I was really in a pinch. I would prefer to have had some rubber cement to apply to the threads. But it held up just fine until I replaced the tire. I would use that again instead of the one demonstrated here because you can get sheet metal screws much longer; I would suggest 1 inch or longer so that it is well and truly blocking the entire hole. The screw head just gets ground off as you drive.

I've just superglued screws in the past and like you say. It's good enough until replacement time. But these seem able to be removed and professionally fixed. Bit like all these. They're not designed as a permanent fix.

I am surprised you don't have to use a tyre cement with the screws? Looks like a great idea, but you must take your tyre compressor with you.

It doesn't show well in the video but there is a glue around the screw which I believe acts as the sealant. The tyre I fitted these too is still holding air after about 6 months. Their advantage over the emergency cans are no mess for the tyre yard and a good chance a permanent repair could be made later. Once that spray stuff if used the tyre is scrap.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. As an additional I can say the tyre these were fitted to is still holding air. So they definitely work. 👍

If you get a puncture, it won't have screwed itself in !!!! The hole will be smooth, so your test is flawed !!!!

I appreciate any comments but let's put some things into context. Most punctures are from screws and nails. I used a drill, with bits larger than the majority of screw/nail diameters to mimic a puncture. So I grant you, unless you get a puncture caused by a Makita cordless drill with a 6mm hss bit held at 90 degrees to a 185/65 x 15 Bridgestone tyre that wasn't even fitted to car then yes, my test isn't indicative of the puncture you will most likely get. But, the test did prove a cheap simple glued up grub screw can effectively plug a sizable hole in a tyre in an emergency and be an easier fix for a tyre shop than the emergency foam fillers most people have. Unless you believe I needed to test EVERY type of puncture possibility in EVERY type of tyre for this test to give valid results. 🤷‍♂️

I've just had a puncture, tried the sticky orange things , it shot out of the tyre like a bullet when I inflated it ☹😅😅, after all that effort 🤣🤣, might try the screws the next time , cheers 🍻

Other than super glue, which works surprisingly well, the emergency foam, which works but scraps the tyre, and these screws, which 10 months after testing are still holding 26psi, I've not tried anything else. Long term I'd trust nothing but a permanent tyre shop repair as that seals the inside of tyre. While I do now carry these screws with me, I also have the foam because if anything life has taught me it's you're given problems when you have the least time to solve them.

Hi , thanks for your reply , just didn't want to take my puncture to the repair shop as the wheels have just been refurbished a brilliant white and didn't want them scraped as they struggle to put on and remove tyres due to them being very low profiles , I will give these screws a go , thank you 😊
