Very informative. I stumbled on a mention of this dye in the Bible. Can’t wait to share the details with my congregation on Sunday. Thank you

I would love to hear that lecture...Justinian was a pretty interesting guy, and art history is such a massive part of human history I always wonder why it's not often included in curriculum.

I recently found your History of Colors videos the other day and have been watching a few, they're so informative and cool! But I'm just now realizing these are old videos, and I'm bummed because after watching this one, I was so pumped to see one about Vermilion... I doubt you'll be doing a vermilion video anytime soon😩

There's a city named Tyre in Lebanon, Tuirean was an ancient celtic god, and the Etruscans had a king Tyhranius. The Tuirean sea in Italy. There's an ancient Irish story about the tragedy of Tuireans sons. It tells of travels and war all through Mediterranean and up to Denmark.

Pliny didn't describe the whole process either...
@littlearttalks
@littlearttalks 8 лет назад
+C.E. Parks What do you think is missing from his description of the process?
@NihilisticHatred
@NihilisticHatred 8 лет назад
+Little Art Talks That's wha I understand. He wrote the process based on what he knew. No one thinks he got the entire recipe.
@vault703overseer2
@vault703overseer2 6 лет назад
+C.E. Parks That's because there never has been a "the recipe" or singular process in existence. The color would have changed depending on how the dye was handled/used/blended after extraction. Simply changing a mordant will alter the color produced on a finish product. Each ancient Bob Ross would have a different recipe.

This is the root of the 'Royal Purple' of european nobilities, the Phoenicians traveled much further than the later greeks. In the bible they are the *tribe of dan*. (serpent / leviathan)
@hominidaetheodosia
@hominidaetheodosia Год назад
Not semitic - they had red hair!! Not Tribe of Dan either! Granted the Phoenician alphabet is identical to Proto-Hebrew but that’s only because they were! both enslaved in Babylon!
