Good for you doing it yourself. For future reference though, research how professional moving companies load their trucks. The attic can be used for smaller furniture and/ or odd shaped items. And, build "tiers" from left to right, starting at the front of the truck and work your way to the back. Lining the walls first will compromise your usable space later on.
Thanks for making this vid! I’m currently moving and I’ll be renting the smaller truck. And also getting a dolly for my vehicle! Sadly never drove both but wish me luck
It went pretty well! It was frightening at first because of its size, but in all it was a pretty smooth drive! Getting into the parking lot of the apartment was tight but luckily I had a buddy to help park it.
Thanks for the video. Today, I got this truck and am driving it tomorrow for around 1500 miles. I noticed a few things I didn’t get. First, when I pressed on the brakes pedal while the truck is off, it makes a buzzing noise, I was not sure what that was. There’s a noise come up if the emergency brake is up while the truck is on. Also, I didn’t get what the Disengage Overdrive button is for. I think I will figure it out all tomorrow.
The problem w Uhaul these days is you reserve a particular truck, take time off from work without pay, spend a day packing up everything you own then goto the Uhaul to get the truck you reserved & 'Sorry, we rented that one an hour ago' 'But, I reserved it' 'Sorry, he needed it' 'I need it too' 'Well, he was here & you were not. We had no guarantee you were going to show up so we rented it' All your stuff is in boxes so you have to spend the night in a motel You have to take ANOTHER day off without pay. Uhaul has a real problem with customer service. I would not reserve ANYTHING from them. Remember, they arent the only game in town. Penske, Ryder, Hertz & any equipment rental yard all rent trucks. So, tell Uhaul to kiss it. !
These trucks can do an incredible amount of highway driving and very little city driving depending on who used them previously. It does help they have a fleet of many mechanics to inspect the trucks so issues aren't just left alone for months before Joe does something about it. Cars and trucks can last for a very long time if well maintained (I didn't say "all" of them, because obviously you've got lemons and normal wear and tear from people's driving habits)
John, i haven't gotten on Uhaul's website yet. Im in the packing stage. And i am planning on getting it for 24hrs. My question is; in the price you paid you had to pay for milage right? And fill back up correct? Can i ask how far it was for you to move?. I am coming from Ftw to Rockwall and then back to Ftw. Trying to get a fill of how much it is going to kill me. Lol. Thanks and i hope you are enjoying your new place
Hi Deb and glad the video is helping with your move :) You are right, it is mileage plus fuel and those big boys drink the fuel :) You could google the round trip distance to get an estimate on the mileage and it cost me about $30 in fuel to go from Uhaul to McKinney to Allen back to Uhaul. U-Haul gets around 10 miles per gallon so divide that by the round trip. 120 Miles round trip from FT to Rock would be approx. $60 dollars maybe $100 dollars, depends on a lot of factors. I would budget at least $100 for fuel and then 150 miles for the Uhaul to be on the safe side. Let me know how it all turns out Deb!
@@JohnDaniels ya. It's going to kill me. Around trip will be about 170 miles. Im going to probably have to figure a different way. But thank you for telling me around about how much to figure in. Wow they kill you
They charge per mile 😲. 8 hours sounds like a long way, It would be approximately 430 dollars. If you go to the website to rent one just put in your zip code and it'll tell you about how much it's going to be but it's 89 cents a mile for the 10 or 15 foot trucks so you can just times that by how many miles and you can get a estimate
That's a Great question Spencer 👍🏻. "Cash is accepted for pickup and van rentals. However, a valid credit or debit card with a major credit card logo will also need to be presented in the name of the renter."
