No day is the same for a Security Forces specialist, from defending the gate to protecting aircraft on the flight line. And the opportunities to grow within the career field range from investigative work to handling military working dogs. No matter the path, these defenders are invaluable to the overall Air Force mission.

No matter what you are always going to have people run their mouths. You can give them a million dollars and they will complain it wasn't a dollar more. Great video and it is up to the Airman to make the difference. Get away from the toxicity of those that complain everyday

When it comes to the government the very thing that made and makes this country what it is is the ability to complain. Wether it is voicing your opinion against a war you believe to be unjust or thinking a certain policy is inefficient. You may disagree with people but having people to disagree with is the very definition of freedom. Do you think Soviet Russia would allow someone to disagree with any military element? No, in fact you could be killed for complaining about anything government related. A multiple party system means there will be complaining but that is a cornerstone of self governance. Live under a one party system for a little and you will be begging for the right to complain.

That's what we're here for, to state our opinions in a mature atmosphere. I did my four years. Got K9 right after tech school. My USAF experience didn't help me any becoming a city police officer. I told my daughter the same things when she was enlisting. Now she works Mon x Fri, has a full meal period, and gets to leave early on Fridays. Her pay and promotions come just as fast. She doesn't work in outside elements and has it easier to attend college.

I'm in the commercial security industry. And love watching these military videos. Even though I've never been in the military, it's neat to see how other forces operate in comparison to myself. And there are some similarities. I hear everyone saying new SF officers would spend days checking CAC cards at checkpoints. When I got my first security gig, I was tasked with traffic control, the entire day. Which sucked. Now that I've been to college and have a few years of experience, I'm getting better and more high level security positions. Saludos! 👮‍♂️ God bless you all.

I was SF, CATM and RAVEN and I enjoyed my time in those rolls. I was also a Combat Medic in the Army. All jobs are what you make of them. I took every school offered and volunteered when they were not offered in hopes of getting more training. Like all jobs, there are tedious task like working some lonely ECP to cleaning weapons and some bad and excellent NCOs mixed in but I wouldn't trade my time in SF for any other job. Raven was my favorite roll due to the travel and level three anti terrorism training and SERE which looks good on a resume.

Like most things in life your experience in AF Security Forces can vary greatly depending on a host of factors, most of which are out of your control. Current OPs tempo, what base you are stationed, your leadership, availability of specialized schools and your units willingness to send you. I did four active (86-90) and another 17 with the guard. It led to a federal LE career as a Criminal Investigator with the USMS. Along the way I got to travel all over the world and do some interesting (not gonna lie also a lot of boring) things. At the end of the day when I look back it was a great decision. If you do it go in with a good attitude, seek out every opportunity and try to get the most out of it.

"At any moment, anything can happen". I walked around fences with a K9 for four years. Nothing once ever happen. It was painfully boring, and Security Guard Forces didn't help me becoming a city police officer. I'm proud of my USAF service, but we often worked 12-hour tours for the same pay as people working 8. The 24/7 schedule didn't help attending college classes, or to use the gym to prepare for PT tests. We worked every holiday without night differential or holiday pay. Much of the duty is in outside elements. We were "cops" as much as gate guards at a condominium. The USAF is big on volunteering. This helps obtaining good evaluations and promotions. Imagine volunteering at a church after working a midnight, while knowing you have to return to work that same evening for another midnight tour. The Asvab score ties with becoming a cook. It's also where they dump people who flunk other tech schools. Working a gate and checking the same ID cards while thinking you're a cop, is often the worst job in the Air Force.

I was a K9 handler still in my teens. I walked the perimeter of fences in artic-sold weather thinking I was a cop. This never helped me once become a city police officer. OSI or CID might, not air force security. Sometimes you get to write fellow airmen and their wives' cheesy tickets. Then you want to be accepted as real. Guarding parked aircraft, missiles which have never moved, checking ID cards at gates, and watching ammo bunkers is not police work. Nobody ever has applied for a search or arrest warrant, cooperated with the DA in a Grand Jury investigation, monitored a wiretap, or participated in programs like Managing Criminal Investigations.@@zulew2555

Your drive to serve has to outweigh desired comfort levels! I love this field, but there are responses and procedures that wouldn't naturally be desired. Ex: working 12 hr shift, getting off work, only to be recalled due to off-base jet crash (overseas). It sucked, but the purpose far outweighed the suck. For folks that whine about the career field, like what you expect to do, only work M-F with weekend and holidays off? Like if you got kicked out for drugs/alcohol abuse or because you were crappy, like why are you trying cut the career field down. Regarding leadership, in and out the military, there are awful and awesome leaders. If your passion is to serve and learn and be in the Security Forces, this gives good perspective. If you want to do drugs, be lazy, hate working with a team, and be super cynical, then it's not for you 🤷🏾‍♂️

You can work long days, 8 to 14 hours of just being there while your brain numbs with the lack of activity/productivity , no lunch break. Even though you have done absolutely nothing, you are exhausted.

Edward you can see combat, but it’s rare. I mean you could do Guard or reserve where would work 24 out of 360 days of the year. It’s not “real security forces” in MY opinion. Because you don’t do the same job, reservist go to their one time weekend every month and just do “training” on a computer. The upside to them is that they are what military folks call “civilians” (non military) majority of the year to do whatever you want. Listen dude, if you do it just do 4 years to test the waters, if you like it, then re-enlist. If you absolutely loath it with a passion (like I do) then you will be happy that all you did is 4 years and take that GI BILL that you EARN and run with it after you get out.

lets understand the Air Force is not the Marines or Army , those aircraft need technicians and the Air Force romp the skies and they do missions that others services can't do. The Air Force is the 911 for services . So quiet comparing apples to oranges. Yes they have desk jobs (they use drones long range) so you better be good at a joy stick and believe it or not I got pictures of other services in Baghdad infantry playing video games so what , those games help you fly a drone and get rid of bad guys while you still in the US.. The Air Force was never meant to be an infantry group. But they learn in Vietnam (the Air Force had used a Korean mentality that the bases in Vietnam would not be attacked, guess what review that in Vietnam the Air Force used the Security Police as their light infantry. The first group was poorly trained then after some bases had sapper attacks and planes destroyed on the ground they realized they had to come up with a security system to safe guard the air base. In Nam at first Army and Marines guarded then both those services were put on the offensive and the South Vietnamese guarded the air base but that went wrong and so the role of the Air Police later Security Police role changed and started using weapons m-60 ,M-79 , doing op's sweeps in near by villages near base, convoy duty and had to deal with attacks 122 mm rockets, mortars and small groups of Viet Cong sappers the Security Police were learning as they were going into more and more into the war. Then Tet 1968 changed everything and State side the Air Force had a program called Safeside were Security Policeman now were being trained as infantry and use of all weapons of the time , read the book Battle of Saigon or Yankee Air Pirates , the Security Police defended the air bases were no air base was over run, remember only Security Police had m-16 and weapons the other had desk jobs and technicians so they could bomb North Vietnam Cambodia etc, so what happen next Security Police are now Security Forces and trained to fight and defend the assets of the Air Force and personnel. PJ, Forward Air Controllers and Security Forces are trained for combat the others are trained to keep aircraft flying I seen videos on Security Forces and on Net Flex you stand a Skycop now has equipment and vehicles and next to a Army or Marine looks the same the missions are different the Army and Marines go hunting for bad guys Security Forces have to wait for the bad guys to come to them. Down time is the hardest thing about being a Skycop (Security Forces nickname). You can compare Navy and the Air Force cause ones water the other one is the air. Marines and Army compare yes but do not compare Air Force to Marines or Army. I was a Skycop in Nam during the Tet 1968 sad to say we learned as we went along , on the job training not good in a war zone. Skycops guarded B-52 's with nukes weapons all over the world and underground in some States and a Skycop is not a hunter he is a defender. Know the mission of the services you want to join. Working Security is no fun boring till the shit hits the fan , As you can tell don't compare Army and Marines to Air Force or Navy.

By Federal Law you must be at least age 17 with parental consent and at least a junior to have an appointment or to join the Air Force. However, you may speak to recruiters when they come to your high school. While you are still too young to enlist into the Air Force, it is never too early to start preparing. There are a few things you can do now to prepare for once you reach the required age. First study hard and graduate from high school. Get the best grades you can in all subjects especially English, Math and Science. This will help you improve your score on the ASVAB test which is required for enlistment. Say no to drugs and get an early start on physical conditioning are important steps in the right direction. And stay out of trouble. Law violations can delay and in some cases will disqualify you from joining the Air Force and taking advantage of the opportunities available. Starting early and being prepared are your best shot. Stay in contact with your Guidance Counselor and maybe we will see you in a few years. You may research more information about the Air Force on our site of www.airforce.com to include benefits like education, careers, training, lifestyle, requirements, etc. There is also the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) portion that answers a lot of the most common questions asked: www.airforce.com/frequently-asked-questions/ You may also log on to Airforce.com to chat with a live advisor for assistance or call us to answer questions. If qualified you can join at age 17 with parental consent during your junior/senior year in high school as part of The Air Force Softbook Program and enter the Delayed Entry Program (DEP), but you will not go to Basic Military Training (BMT) until AFTER you graduate high school. Steps to the Enlistment • Contact your local recruiter. Recruiter will ask you qualification and eligibility questions. Potentially take a practice test in the office. Depending on how well you do will determine if you get scheduled for the real ASVAB. • Recruiter schedules you for the ASVAB at the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) or MET Site. Your recruiter will go over your scores when you return to the recruiting office. If your recruiter tells you that you passed, then he or she will schedule you for the MEPS Exam • At the MEPS your exam will consist of bloodwork, drug testing, medical questioning about all your medical history and a full medical exam. You will be asked about any law violations, arrests, convictions, charges, ANY thing involved a law enforcement officer. You will be fingerprinted, and your prints and information will be run by a federal background investigator. You will then discuss your career selections with an Air Force Liaison based on your ASVAB scores, medical exam, and the X-Factor test results (test is like a dead lift). • You will list your careers (at least 8-10 or more depending on the recruiter) down and the Air Force Liaison will input your choices on your record. You will be asked if you want to do a 4- or 6-year enlistment. You will then be sworn in with the Oath of Enlistment and enter the Delayed Entry Program at MEPS. After this you will go back to your recruiter’s office. • You will wait for your recruiter to contact you when he or she gets notified that you have been booked a career based on one of the choses you listed at MEPS. This may take a few days, weeks or months (it varies). Your recruiter will call you in to the office to sign your contract and discuss your career field and date that you leave to Basic Training The average time to basic is approximately 3-9 months after you DEP in Don Air Force and Space Force Recruiting Service
