"WASHINGTON-After months of saying a cease-fire and a hostage-release deal was close at hand, senior U.S. officials are now privately acknowledging they don’t expect Israel and Hamas to reach an agreement before the end of President Biden’s term.
The administration won’t stop its pursuit of an agreement, seeing it as the only way to end the war in Gaza and stop a rapidly escalating conflict between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah. The White House has previously said the warring parties have already agreed to 90% of the deal’s text, so hope remains for a breakthrough. But a number of top-level officials in the White House, State Department, and Pentagon argue the warring parties won’t agree to the current framework."

I wish you were right. The terrible plight of the Palestinians goes back to the end of WW2. Our political system was always ripe to be gamed and means that either political party has to support Isreal or lose power. And unfortunately, so does Neinutu and Humas, who play our parties against each other. So, after the election, then there will be an opportunity for Harris to have the leverage to get a deal done. Trump is going mad or may even die because he's so old and he's not going to help anyway because he'll be a dictator. That's the truth, my friend.

Did Israel only target Hamas when they were occupying Gaza before October 7th, or did they also had in captivity 2.3 million civilians (women and children)? If you think justice is an eye for an eye, then Hamas is also justified to target Israelí civilians. If you think justice is to only target enemy combatants and leaders, even though Israel had civilian Palestinians under worst conditions than apartheid, then how could Hamas fight the Israeli military and their leaders when they didn’t have the military capabilities? Is trying to target only enemy combatants and leaders La la land, or is it realistic? If it is La la land, how can you hold Hamas to such high standard? Should we think of Israel as a unit or as single individuals? This means, we only hold responsible those who pulled the trigger and hurt someone. Those who didn’t, are innocent even if they were part of the military. Or should we see the Israeli military as a unit and civilians as another unit (remember, however, that Israel has mandatory military)? If we are to see them as two different units, how do you account for civilians who support the war, and soldiers who do not support the war? This would also mean that those who served in the past were guilty too of the occupation. If we see Israel as a unit, then all of them deserve to be punished. If we see the military and civilians as two separate units, only those who served or are serving deserve to be punished. If we have to treat all people as separate moral individuals, then only those who were active participants in the harm to Palestinians deserve to be punished (those who pulled the trigger, those who gave the order, and those who were accomplices).

I have sided with Israel for the most part in my adulthood & was raised to do so--I'm 70. Netanyahu is not someone I've been able to get behind at all even though I understand being allies. This also puts the US in a bad spot right now. Biden has gone too easy on Netanyahu & should have put him in his place before this. Netanyahu knew what was going to happen in October & did nothing to stop it. As far as a massacre goes, Israel is no longer innocent on that score either. Netanyahu doesn't care how many people die, Jew or Muslim. Biden still has time to make some decisions, take some actions & part of that could & should involve the rest of NATO & beyond or go straight to Egypt & all surrounding Arab nations. Possibly UK & Germany at the very least in case this actually becomes WW111. I'm not certain if other countries are willing to even listen to the US at this point with our bad judgement on display with Israel. Typically war talk goes well when unemployment is high & economies need to a push to go up. The US is in a great place with our economy & employment so war talk will not be welcomed--whether it's for Israel or Ukraine. God help us all if trump gets near the nuclear codes!
