You imply that Galaxy was first to be able to separate. Not so. Though we never saw it, the TOS Enterprise had the ability to separate.

If it didn't happen on screen it's not exactly cannon.

They do mention it on screen as something the ship is capable of doing, which I think is sufficient. I think the episode was The Apple

I have almost all the Star Trek technical manuals that were written by Rick Sternbach and Michael Okuda, the technical advisors to Star Trek: The Next Generation, from back in the 90's They mention that most Federation starships with a defined saucer section had the ability to "separate" in almost every case this was done by explosive bolts irreversibly severing the connection between the saucer and secondary hull. The Galaxy class line of ships was noteworthy in the sense that it was the first class that allowed non damaging separation and reconnection. This was admittedly material that is now 30 years old. I'm not currently aware if they've rewritten the older cannon lore to retcon the older technical manuals.

The Galaxy class starships are not the first class of Federation starships to be capable of saucer separation. The difference between the Galaxy class and starship classes like the Constitution (and in turn the Constitution Refit of the late 23rd Century), the Excelsior, and the Ambassador is the Galaxy class is first class of starship that is capable of reattaching its separated saucer section WITHOUT the aid of a Starbase, an orbital shipyard, or a remote space station with ship building/ship repair facilities.

3 Jem'Hadar attack ships... You know, it's funny how neither Memory Alpha or Memory Beta say that anywhere... Probably because I made it up and used that 'fact' in my video. I'm surprised you didn't rip it off completely.

some minor fixes. Her crew complament was 1000 not 1500. She needed room for guests after all. and more specific she is the first class to seperate and reattach on her own. the connie can seperate but needs a shiupyard to be put back together. She is also the last of the oringal three comissioned. E-D and Tamato were destory before her.

Revkor One small correction, the *science* adaptation had 1500, the regular service line and refit version had 1000,that a small distinction most people do not take into consideration and many making the 1500 crew number argument are not even aware of.

never heard of a science adaption. so don't consider it true. the E-D was already science based and stayed at a rough 1000 crew. While the ship has room for more it leaves space for guests.

The galaxy class was originally conceived as a science explorer, hens the massive saucer section for room for tech and equipment necessary, im surprised you didn't know this.It was later discovered thanks largely to the u.s.s Galaxy to be a capable and reliable multi role vessel which for a time became the backbone of star fleet much as the constitution class was in its time until the conception and building of the first sovereign class.

+Revkor The science adaptation was short lived which is why not many have heard of it, it simply means in the case of a few galaxy's a lot of systems were removed and replaced with science equipment, they didn't last long however with the coming of the dominion war and were returned to space dock and retro fit back to battle cruisers.

or considering how long it takes to make a galaxy most of the DW Gals were not fully complete just battle ready with all the weapons and defense systems in. the scince stuff would be adding in after the war.

There is some contention rather the current uss Galaxy is a renamed vessel or the original one, there is some contention over claims that the uss, galaxy was destroyed during the dominion war, but the name was so loved and the ships reputation was unquestionable that another galaxy class was renamed to replace her along with the surviving crew being reassigned to the new ship.

Lisa winn If that was the case, then her number would be 70637-A, which is is not. Also as Revkor said, the Galaxy Class can take huge amounts of damage and just keep smiling and coming at ya. All I'm saying is that it is not easy to bring a Galaxy Class starship down.

no joking there hehe its my fave ship class on sto for that very reason ^^

Anyways, it's just contention about the ship, i myself don't know if theirs any truth behind that rumor or not.

U.S.S. Galaxy did have the ability to separate, but it was not a standard feature in the Galaxy class until the first heavy cruiser refit or *dreadnaught* version of the class which was what the big D was *not the Galaxy x btw*. Her and many others proved the galaxy class to be a capable beast of a ship in battle that could absorb massive amounts of damage and keep on fighting.

You're wrong about that. The saucer separation capabilities of the Galaxy class starships is one of the most important features of that class of starship. The USS Galaxy started service as an experimental prototype, which means that it was capable of separating the saucer section from the very beginning of its trial runs, and the saucer separation capabilities was one of the intended test-bed features that Starfleet had wanted for the Galaxy class.
