In Attika / U.S. Telegraph, players are racing to build their tiles into the central play area. A player will win immediately if they can get all of their tiles built or if they connect two distant corners of the board. So you can imagine, a lot of blocking! But overall, it's an efficiency game. Some buildings are free if next to others, and pre-printed resources make things cheaper. It's tempting to be super-efficient when building, but remember, it's a race! You might want to spend a bit to get something out early rather than wait for a cheaper moment.
Attika, designed by Marcel-André Casasola Merkle, was released in 2003 by Hans im Glück and was in the BGG Top 100 for a while, before disappearing and becoming a bit of a grail game. It was re-released in 2018 by Super Meeple as U.S. Telegraph, and this version should still be easy to find.
