U2 perform a rare version of Mothers of the Disappeared during the Pomart Tour in Santiago, Chile with the actual mothers on stage with the band. Bono allows them to say the names of their loved ones during the song. Awesome.
One of Bono's best written lyrics. "In the wind you hear their laughter, in the rain you see their tears" is my favourite phrase. Serious spine chills.
This moment was like a punch in the stomach. How can't you cry watching those mothers talking about the disappearance of their sons? One of the most emotional moments in the entire career of U2 and their live concerts
In Chile, still looking for the disappeared !!! Many mothers are dead, others are very old, to continue fighting ......... the assassins are also dying ....... but as long as there is a Chilean or Chilean who fights for justice and truth .... they will never disappear, they will continue in our hearts and in our memory to never forget us
I'm not even a big U2 fan but that was fantastic. What is it with U2 that whenever something terrible happens in the world, they can mention it in their shows in such a beautiful way? Wether it's the show in Sarajevo after the war, playing in Santiago a few years after the end of Pinochet's regime singing "El pueblo vencerá" (I'm not sure but I believe that was Salvador Allende's campaign slogan) or giving their stage to the Eagles of Death Metal after the attacks in Paris. You don't have to be a U2 fan to be moved by things like that. They can always get people together to process their anger, sadness and fear in a positive way and that's fantastic.
As also the thing that they never canceled the concert at Red Rocks in 1983, despite the dangers... U2 is always there, leaving their message for us to be inspired for the world's rescue. We hear the heartbeat...
@@KleWdSide its amazing that a group that does nothing but promote love can draw so much hate Its a damn shame But its nice that many who arent u2 fans can give credit where credit is due Im a HUGE U2 FAN as you must be (based on your user name) This performance, in my opinion is in their top 5 historically significant performances ever EL PUEBLO VENCERA❤️
As a teenage U2 fan in the 80s U2 taught me much more about life than any school or teacher could ever teach me . To me one of the greatest U2 songs off all time . I admire U2 how they tell story's in songs and make me aware of what is going on in this world !!
So well put. Not 3 weeks ago I was trying to tell a close friend how I have learned more about American Race, life, and spirituality than all our time in school and even my own father were able to teach me. Maybe it's just the delivery? Either way, this video is a perfect representation of what I was alluding to.
This is a beautiful video. It's so sad that so many mothers have children that have just disappeared. I can't believe how many victims there are that are missing without even knowing if they are dead or alive. I can't even imagine having a child just disappear. That would absolutely destroy me.
The best video on youtube.
A few years back my wife & I were visiting family in Argentina. One day I met a "Mother" and as she told me her heartbreaking story of loss I sat there silently, quietly and ultimately feeling helpless. All I could do is reach and hug her. Sometimes when I am having a rough day or see another soul struggling in their's, I just reach out and offer a hug. Sounds cheesy to some I am sure, but nothing lowers our defenses faster than a simple hug. One day... peace.
I had a staffordshire bull terrior put down at the age of 10 coz of a tumor. I laid in my bed alone, and sobbed every night . . . every night. To push me through and past my pain I listened to this song and continued to sob. Some how It helped. Get well soon Bono. and when you get back up on stage, put out the show of you're fucking life. R.I.P Stuart Adamson.
if there ever is a powerful song done by U2 this has got to be the one...I get the bumps just listening to it and my heart breaks, knowing these mothers will never know what happen to their children, so all we can do is hear their laughter in the wind, and see their teardrop in the rain...
Why would anyone criticize this? They are using their stage to give these mothers and their disappeared/murdered children visibility and a voice. What a great thing to do!
I was at the concert. It was surreal...and sent shivers down my spine. When I lived in Santiago I used to work out and run around Estadio Nacional. It gave me chills. Lot of history...not so good history. Although, many Chilenos would argue that Chile would not be where it is today without Pinochet. But at what cost?? I don't know.
Bono, you are the best! south amerika, afrika, you are for all! i am a graet fan since 20 years! You`ll never walk alone!! we see us in 29 of september in Sevilla! U2 is the best band ever and i love you!
Midnight, our sons and daughters Cut down, taken from us Hear their heartbeat We hear their heartbeat In the wind we hear their laughter In the rain we see their tears Hear their heartbeat We hear their heartbeat Night hangs like a prisoner Stretched over black and blue Hear their heartbeat We hear their heartbeat In the trees our sons stand naked Through the walls our daughters cry See their tears in the rainfall
HANDS DOWN! THE BEST POPMART CONCERT! The mexico show is good but this concert is just bone chilling! The whole concert is mind blowing, I wish there would be more POPMART shows this amazing with Miami,do you feel loved and if god will send his angels... Anyone and everyone should get a copy of this. This show will put those "pop haters" to rest and if it doesent, they clearly have no heart and soul.
I just watched this again and am in tears for my stupid comment below, god bless these unfortunate mothers and I really hope they get comfort and justice.
brilliant absolutely brilliant i feel so much for the mothers wifes husbands children fathers friends of the dissapeard and everyone else who knew someone who was dissapeared my heart truely goes out too you. x
Love from Red Rocks. Love from Conscientious Lovers. Please Champion Women. My Uncle Ervin gifted me his Stereo set. Just in time to hear U2 Live from Red Rocks in real time.
The poster holders are saying when their family members was detained/disappeared. the woman that gets much applause adds "I demand justice" It is hard to imagine a more emotionally charged moment.
Thank you very much a wonderful tribute to those with disappeared loved ones. I was very young when the cold war started and our family left Chile when I was 6 so my memories are the heartbreaks and my lifelong hope of the disappeared being found to be laid to rest properly.
Was at the POPMART tour in Edmonton, Alberta. They did not play this song. Wished they did. This is why U2 are who & what they are. An aweome rock band with a conscience!! I cry everytime I watch this. Humans are capable of such terrible atrocities to each other. Our planet is experiencing this reality & we will all pay dearly - & I ain't talking about money. Can't eat money. Hear their heart beat! U2 fan since the boy album. (blessed to see them twice - no line on the horizon) Namaste
