For me two skip albums, but with different ratings. Like Rattle'N'Hum, Zooropa was not a traditional studio album, but mostly a European tour project, a collage of spontaneous ideas in the sense of anything is possible (Babyface: terrible; Lemon is better than Daddy; Days+First Time are very simple/highlights : Lemon+The Wanderer, with a faster rhythm or acoustically also Stay). I find the idea behind Zooropa remarkable; therefore I am merciful. The only thing that's right about Pop is the name: it's the cheap pop shelf at the cheap super market. The only fantastic song is Gone (stolen from Pearl Jam?, Starring from Oasis!). OK. I can live with Mofo, Last Night (too slickly produced), Wake Up and the engaging lyrics of Please. I can't do anything with the remaining 5 songs. The only Album worser than POP is SOE and of course the totally unnecessary SOS/greeting for The Edge. Who agrees with me? U2. No album songs appeared on LATER tours (not when they were released), except Stay, partly Starring, both in the fantastic acoustic set. U2 were always unhappy with Pop (due to poor planning and too many projects, completed under enormous time pressure because the PopMart tour started). The tastes are so different. All the best and have fun with all kinds of good music.

I can see the ok computer poster behind you. Zooropa was ok computer before ok computer was even thought of. I’ve read a few times how radiohead experimented in the 90’s U2 were a big influence on them. Great song on a cracking album

I love the base in Gone. Actually, from the same album "Please" and "If You Wear That Velvet Dress" also have memorable bass play.

Please check out the live versions of “Gone”!! Whether it’s from the Pop tour or in the 2000s… the song is amazing musically and vocally when done live!! Seeing Bono playing rhythm guitar adds an extra element to the song. The song really rocks out and sounds like it has more substance. In one live version they jam out at the end of the song. And I think my favorite part of the live version is The Edge doing backing vocals!! He echoes the word “Gone” during the chorus and it sounds amazing!!

I like both songs but I give this one to Zooropa. While it takes a little while to get out of the gate, it really finds it's legs and I always felt like it perfectly captured that rare moment in history when we were on the very brink of the Age of Information. We didn't really know what was coming but we knew it was going to be big and life-changing (and it was !). I suppose I've got rose-colored glasses on to a certain extent but being a young man at the time, I felt as excited and bold about the future as the band did back then. Anyway, thanks for the clip, it's always fun looking back at better days. Cheers o7

I really liked BOY and WAR PLUS UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY and then i got taken down a much different road to the PUNKROCK HIGHWAY and I'm still wobbling and stumbling along that highway and loving it

Will always go with zooropa, such a great trip from start to finish. But, gone was really good livevin concert. The edge' chorus backing, coming in higher than bono is phenomenal. They've done a couple re-recordings of gone where they've slightly re-worked some spots of the song that improve on the album recording. But, zooropa-thematically and musically is just auperb.

The guitar on Zooropa probably the best thing Edge has ever done, still gives me chills. Gone is about Michael Hutchence's death by the way, the best version is their life Pop Mart performance in Mexico City. Pop I believe was their best album which totally goes against the grain I know but it's their most daring, different from their previous material and exciting, both Zooropa and Pop was U2 at their peak, creatively

I'm a massive U2 fan and I think you might be wrong about Gone being a song about Michael Hutchence's death as the song was written and recorded prior to his death. The song you might be referring to is Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out which was written about his death, though Gone was dedicated to Michael Hutchence during the Popmart tour after his death. As for my choice, well I like both obviously but if I had to pick one, it would be Zooropa.

Great reaction guys! I was a big U2 fan up to and including Achtung Baby! and I guess I just jumped ship to Radiohead around the time Zooropa came out. I did see them live just before it came out. As for these songs I have to admit I didn't really feel much for either although this could be due to being hyped up after reviewing Ren for the last couple of days!

What’s peoples thought on Zooropa listening for the first time now? Does it sound dated? It’s difficult to identify after listening to it and loving it after 30 years.
