U2 - The Unforgettable Fire - Studio Version 

This is my favorite song by U2.. I had the cassette back in the 80's and played it over and over and over.. it sat in my stereo cassette player and never moved for about 3 years and then I went to Ireland and did a tour of Southern Ireland and played this the whole time and I could not believe just how absolutely wonderful and special this song is especially travelling around Ireland. Completely magical. I love U2 and they are my all time favorite !!

2000s Coldplay reminds me a lot of U2, you can hear how U2 influenced them.

Brilliance, U2 in this era were godly. Eno and Lanois were a major part of that. The 80s post punk movement is what has been evergreen... bands like U2, Chameleons, The Sound, Siouxsie and the Banchees, Comsat Angels, Echo and The Bunnymen, The Cure and on and on. What you think of the 80s is the cheap pop stuff that made the charts. U2 were outliers in that they were unique, cool and happened to cut through and make hit songs on the charts that catapulted them to superstardom.

As far as the 80's go, The Police, The Clash, U2, Talk Talk, The Cure, Eurythmics, OMD and so many more... The 80's had some garbage but some absolute brilliance!

In my view, the album I's most likely to be stuck with if I had to choose ......Bono's voice begans to drift in to other vocal spaces...............Larry's drumming is rythmic and driving........nobody plays like Larry Mullen JR.........Adam keeps it all tight and pulsating........Edge well, Edge is ther Edge .. AMAZING

Listening to this today, I can see where the fan split - or the first fractionation of fans - happened here. In 84 (OMG 40 years ago!!!!) I'd only had the War album and played Under a Blood Red Sky (Live at Red Rocks) a TON. So it didn't bother me much that THIS sound on Unforgettable Fire is VERY lush - as opposed to their first 3 albums, very stripped down, no frills sound. But - there is STILL a romantic side (not in the boy meets girl sense but more of an idealistic/spiritual one) that for me is a through line from War to this album. Possibly, fans that had exposure to three albums prior to this one - felt it was too much of a 180.

Oh it sounds very 80's because it was released in 1984, I've read the lyrics and are a little confusing in my opinion. In the 80's there were many excellent bands specially British, such as: Tears for fears, Talk Talk, simple minds, Simply red, The Police, Depeche mode and many more thanks and greetings from Asturias, Spain👍🌹

Bad is the song I think I'd want played at my funeral. I can't believe I'm even writing that.. yikes. Incredibly powerful song. Tha only thing that sounds 80s in this song are those sound effects that sound like strikes of lightening in the break. It does sound very 80s in that part.
