I was 13 years old in 1983 stuck in a hotel with my twin brother and little sister while my father and his new wife went out to shop while we were on vacation with them. I was truly miserable as I never really connected with my father. My step mother wanted absolutely nothing to do with my siblings or myself. Bored, I turned on the TV in the hotel room and switched the dial to MTV. I listened to the standard music video rotations of the day and then this song and clip appear on the screen. Watching U2 for first time was a transcendent experience that I still cannot adequately describe to this day. Here was someone in Bono both masculine and artistic who also appeared to have a strong mystic charisma .I definitely felt different watching this video but was unable explain why with my 13 year old intelIect , I just knew something was fundamentally singular with this band. A month later I bought the WAR album and in particular listened to 40 , the song based on psalm 40 over and over again. Listening to that song and the rest of the album was a religious experience for me.. Flash forward 40 years and I am now a Priest. I know God had a hand in allowing me to see U2 for first time at age 13 as a scared and unhappy child. Bono and the lads are far from perfect but the Spirit helped to use their music to speak to me and feed me when it counted the most....
Its magic, his voice, the guitars, the lyrics, let go back in time, but not be miserable, well maybe just a little miserable. Thank God for being stuck in the Hotel.
Definitely a timeless classic. U2 is known to be a secretive Christian band, so I'm thinking that may be what you felt when you first ran into this song. For me, I think about the time I was a student at a large university, and was involved with one of its fraternities. I miss those days, and I also wish I could have done better with the support team I had then. So in this song, perhaps God is revealing Himself to me, mandating that I secure my family and take great care of those who support me today. Not only that, but to also reach out and help others when I can. I apologize of the late response, but I wanted to take the time and think things out before giving a tribute to this magnificent song.
One of my faves too!!!, along with "Like A Song...", "Surrender", "Drowning Man" & "Seconds". And of course with the "New Year's Day", "Sunday Bloody Sunday" & "40", but these three are live classics and the most famous songs of this brilliant album.
War!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I forgot aboout this album, amazinggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg adore this song two hearts beat as one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This and new year day song, very young, no spotify, not anything I knew how to get, only FM and when it appeared, just listen it because you didn't know when you were going to be able to listen it again .... So long thanks to all and innovation, thank you all and U2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man these guys were tight. I forgot how great the Edge is on guitar. His guitar work is like a tidal wave of drawn out notes and fragmented speed chords. One of Adam Clayton's best bass lines as well.
U2 is my oldest love in music. Bono's voice, Edge's great sound and guitar playing and the solid and original spine of the band with Larry and Adam who are always forgotten... Juts one of the best bands still active that never changed a band member and that was never afraid to take chances. I would love your input on our last video. If you have just 3 minutes to listen and a bit more to comment, that would mean the world to me. Keep rockin' : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ufF4gUA_6rQ.html
I don't know I don't know which side I'm on I don't know my right from left Or my right from wrong Say I'm a fool Say I'm nothing But if I'm a fool for you Oh, that's something Two hearts beat as one Two hearts beat as one Two hearts I can't stop the dance Honey, this is my last chance I said, can't stop the dance Maybe this is my last chance Two hearts beat as one Two hearts beat as one Two hearts Beat on black, beat on white Beat on everything don't get it right Beat on you, beat on me, beat on love I don't know How to say what's got to be said I don't know if it's black or white There's others see it red I don't get the answers right I'll leave that to you Is this love out of fashion Or is it the time of year Are these words distraction? To the words you want to hear Two hearts beat as one Two hearts beat as one I try to spit it out I try to explain The way I feel Oh, yeah Two hearts I can't stop the dance Maybe this is my last chance I said I can't stop the dance Maybe this is my last chance I said don't stop the dance Maybe this is my last chance I said I can't stop the dance Maybe this is our last chance I said don't stop the dance Maybe this is our last chance, oh oh
No they are not best rock albums, not even close. U2 is more pop sounding than truly rock. And even with their pop catchy notes they are decent, not even close best rock, not even top 10, every album of zeppelin is better than U2, where is GNR , or Pink Floyd, its not even worth discussing, its insane to even utter words best rock album to this. GOOD , MAYBE TOP 30, TOP 50 , ok
@@2011Appleman I was about to write the same. U2 began to remaster their videoclips from "All That You Can't Leave Behind" for its 20 anniversary. The reception was fantastic and they began to remaster their first videoclips. The only footages of the color version of Pride are from an interview that the band had in Japan and a promo for "The Unforgetable Fire" (both are in RU-vid). However, the videoclip is not complete. I Hope we will finally have the opportunity to watch that rare version (complete and in HD).
I remember way back a school friend of mine's older brother was a major U2 fan. I wanted to start getting into them so I asked his brother while he was eating and said "which album should I start with?" without missing a beat he speaks out of the side of his mouth and says "War album" and goes back to eating. My musical journey started there with U2, so lord knows how many times I have played this song lol.
I wonder if U2 could play this song right now at this speed and energy..I don't know about you but I'd love to find out!!! Yeah!! Rock on!!!! Who's rockin to this song today?!?!
This may have been intended as a simple love song, but there's a lot more going on than that. The intense, restless creative energy was a harbinger of what was to drive them forward for decades.
I was at work in the 90's and my co-worker Jim was at the cubicle near me- I said: "You say I'm a fool" Jim said "You're a fool" I said: You say I'm not for you"- Jim said: "You're not for me"- Then I said: "But if I'm a fool for you oh there's something!" Jim smiled and laughed- and said," You're right. " "You got me." Lol
Yeah, they were so exciting, hungry, and full of energy, with something important to say. Then they lost me with Joshua Tree. But I can still go back to this early stuff and feel that fresh excitement all over again.
Found U2 back when I was 12 and I’m now 52 😊 I love their old stuff and it’s what I mostly listen to ❤❤❤ ‘I try to spit out, try to explain the way I feel, oh yeah’ resonates with me back then and now.
MAN!!!!!!THESE GUYS DURAN DURAN INXS DEPECHE MODE NEW ORDER ALL AT THE SAME TIME?????? BAM!!!!!!!!!!WHAT AN AMAZING TIME IN MUZIK!!!!GLAD I wAS A TEEN TO ENJOY ALL OF IT AND STILL DO!!!!!NEWWAVEDAVETILLIDIE!!!!80SKIDTOTHEMAX!!!
@vwvwvhauntwvwvwwvwvwvwvwv8646 He’s also a great drummer. U2 is also something you’ll never be…..music icons. They are one of the most popular music artist of all-time. You say he’s a dinosaur? Getting older happens to everyone….unless you die young. It’ll happen to you too and to every sad, pathetic, poor excuse of a musician that you listen to in the 2020s….which has to be one of the worst decades for music other than really good artists like Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo who actually have talent. Most rap and hip hop “artists” today can’t even play a musical instrument. That’s PATHETIC. Rhianna for instance can’t play a musical instrument and she doesn’t even write her own songs….that’s not an artist.

@@rockandroller007 The same batch of comments from yesterdays video, this is pushing a fake community 3 or more comments all these same order as the Celebration video... me that's who!
@@Thunderer0872 i mean ... who says is the MOST underrated song by U2 as the other guys stated ... That's what i was talking about ... MOST underrated song?? Says who ??? Because i think this Song is not that at all. It's kind of popular indeed
u2 needs to record an LP in Paris, I don't know why that is, but the city's atmosphere might be interesting in its effect on the band's creativity. Like Hewson's bomber-jacket
Quite possibly, my favorite song by them. And that's saying a HELL of A LOT. So many others are right next to it. But, at age 9, in 1983, this hit me powerfully. Same with "New Year's Day", "Sunday, Bloody Sunday"...heck, the whole freakin' WAR album. That, "I Will Follow", and OCTOBER were my introductions to the band. I think I started the journey right.
The unbridled energy and passion in this song is what always strikes me! Which truly is what this song is about - LOVE! Unbridled and unpredictable - uncontrollable. Incredible bass lines (hooks) throughout the whole song (that showcase Adam's melodic style) mixed with the Edges driving guitar propel this song forward to the bridge where you think the song is coming to an end..."I try to spit it out, I try to explain, the way that I feel...Oh yeah...two hearts..." Who can't identify with that? Then the song really takes off at 3:10-3:13...Love keeps pushing them both forward amidst the beatings of life - everyone including love itself is beat upon, sometimes we want the dance to end, but mostly deep down, we don't! "Can't stop the dance - this is our last chance; Don't stop the dance - this is our last chance!" Lastly, this song is often overlooked because the Edge doesn't have any obvious guitar hooks or solos like the other songs on this album - but that is what makes it a U2 great - it's differentness, the essential four piece equally at work. I miss this hungry foursome who were always experimenting with rock, who could emote, and knew how to push beyond the formula!
I’ve always been a casual fan of U2 but I had never heard this song until I heard it on SiriusXM and now I’m in love with it 😍What an energetic and catchy song! I’m going to check out some of their older stuff like this album and Boy
Il faut écouter les premiers albums,je me suis arrêté a arthung baby..car après c'est devenu Une machine a FRIC,et ils n'ont pas retrouver le ROCK comme avant.
bands have signature songs. i would say this is definitely one of U2's many. but immho, their highly non-signature song 'like a song' is easily a top 10 of all time in their catalogue.
This song gives me the goosebumps and can cheer me up at the same time. I find it so amazing how they play the guitar and the drums and Bono singing all together at once. True Talent. Keep singing Bono!!! Luv U2
I saw u2 at the age of 13. It was at a small college gymnasium...about 300 people. It was at their very beginning. I knew they were gonna be big. I was flored !! I very seen them 4 more times since then and they put on the best live show. Bono is The Man !!!
Since I was 15 years old, U2 songs have been one of the soundtracks of my life! 🎶✨ And guess what? My appreciation for them has never wavered! They really are the one of the best! 🙌🎉
