Was 12 years old when I first saw this video. My parents were divorcing and my father was an ass. This song led me to more U2 songs and I swear this group got me out of some serious trouble. Lads,if you ever read this, thanks from this now 47 year old man.
Absolutely my all-time favorite U2 song! I heard it for the first time, one Friday night in 1983, on Friday Night Videos. From the moment Adam started his bass riff, I was hooked, and my body started moving to the rhythm! Every neighbor I had for the next several years knew this song! :)
Early U2 and Simple Minds - where did all that creativity and energy go? It was good to be a teenager in the early 80s with real music like this around.
I have almost all of U2's albums at home. The ones released after The Joshua Tree are gathering dust in a box as they never get taken out for listening. Up to the Joshua Tree I enjoyed all their albums, with War being my favourite. It's edgier and harder-rocking than any of their other releases.
I haven't been listening to U2 much in recent years. But every now and then I come back and listen to their early stuff and am amazed all over again at how great a band they were in their youth and how solid the songs were...
I. Must agree that War chiseled U2 into the art of rock music which had a skilled but different sound to it that was very risky for the times. But achtung baby was to hands down a better album. He'll each and every one of their albums to me has been ground breaking. U24U2
If I had to choose i Would say that though Joshua tree cemented their place in rock the The zooropia album was far better at showing their talents at playing and creativity!
i love this song passionately still today.....wish this style of music would come back ..todays music is tasteless this is so beautiful...and sends a message we need to hear today
@@jamesgretsch4894 There are great U2 songs to be found after 1991: "Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me" (1995) "Miss Sarajevo" (1995) "Gone" (1997) "Beautiful Day" (2000) "Moment of Surrender" (2009) "Love is Bigger Than Anything in its Way" (2017) But in terms of whole albums I think you're right. Starting with Zooropa in 1993 U2's albums became sort of half-great... enjoyable, but not compelling... good, but not epic.
@@jamesgretsch4894 Sorry but "All That You Can't Leave Behind" (2000) is one of best albums in the U2 discography. I don't agree with you about until 1991, the great ZooTV tour was from 92 to 93, & Pop (1997) is too a great album, Zooropa (1993) is a mixed bag for me, half great songs, half hard fail, i consider "Zooropa" to be the "Achtung Baby" that gone very wrong or at least in the biggest parts. All That You Can't Leave Behind (2000) was a giant comeback from U2, an album with excellent songs & strong singles, but some of this excellent songs is somewhat unknown for most people, great songs like "Kite", "In A Little While", "Peace On Earth", "When I Look At The World" & "Wild Honey", must people don't knows, if you doubt watch the DVD's from Elevation Tour, the first Elevation Tour: Live From Boston (2001) and "Go Home: Live From Slane Castle" (2001).
My all time Fave U2 Song! They were so far ahead of their time and one of the Only Bands with all the Original Members! Love that Bass!! Bit of A Punk Sound!!
Happy nww year people of good like whit super classic(1983)!.After of 37 years still listening now in 10/02/2020!.(Feliz ano novo povo de bom gosto com este super classico!.Depois de 40 anos ainda curtindo agora!.)
I have been a fan of U2 for 33 yrs, I have never gotten to see them in concert, hopefully one day I"m iternally grateful they have been together for so long as well! My son got to see them in Auckland , he has been a fan since his teens (in the 90's) I don't even think I influenced him much, though I did play a lot of their songs when he was a kid, just shows how U2's music can inspire different generations. Its interesting that a lot of people look back on the 80's as a more fun and simpler time, I totally agree , I'm sure it had its pressure and tensions, like we do now, but in my 20's the 80's was the best time of my life (so far!)
Their best song.........raw, simple and brings me back to a good place......this is when they were at their best.......just before they hit it big.....mainstream ruined them
bsassine Oh right where in Canada I have been to a few cities there Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, Quebec, + Hamilton, I'm from UK you ever been?
I'm trying to say this with as much humility as I can.....a U2 fan for 30+ years, I got to see them last night for the first time (L.A. Forum). They didn't play this song, but that is quite alright. It was such an incredible experience for my wife and I.....a true spiritual experience. I'm grateful these guys have decided to stay together for so long.
I'd say your comment among others is proof that they haven't lost it. I've seen many say they're still still phenomenal live. I actually won tickets to see them in Denver but the timing was off and sudden so I couldn't go....
Seen them 5 times. 1st time was way back in 1982 with a crowd of around 1,500. Last time was about 3 or 4 years ago. Back in 1994 I saw them in Leeds. 85,000. They've never let me down once. Delivered everytime!
Glad you did get to see them!!! It'll be 37 years this May 10th (you know who's birthday 😉) that I saw them at Woolsey Hall in New Haven CT. I was on the wrong side of the balcony when Bono climbed up the speakers to walk on the railing. Probably gave their manager etc heart palpitations doing that lol.
This was my favorite U2 video for many years. This song's various remixes got me into U2 in 1983. I could never get a good quality copy of this video because U2 never bothered to release it on VHS, LD, VCD or DVD.
Omg so right about this song its U2 at its best with the Edge ripping it up on guitar like a barrage of machine gun riffs and singing back up. this is the real U2 for me.
Rawness and energy were like the two elements of 80's U2 that weren't in the 90's-today. And what do you know, the 80's happens to be the era where at least half of the U2 I listen to comes from, studio-wise. Not to count out their exotic turn in the 90's and mainstream direction as of late, but at least my top 3 U2 songs are from the 80's (with some toss-up behind those), all of which features raw, energetic U2. (With or Without You, Bad, Pride)
The 80s groups were and still are worth their proverbial weight in gold! Love those early U2 hits! I am still wondering which came first ...lol....Bono's or Stacy's.
LakeErieOH Oh right why didn't you say that, Where you from? As you know this came out in 83 should of said good song from 83- But lets not also forget the hit album it came off of-WAR
I don't get why people insist on going mainstream is horrible, if most people were put in the position to make millions of dollars to do what they love...they would jump at that chance...
After hearing this song on the radio and having not knowing the name, I scanned through 2 albums of U2 songs on youtube until I managed to find this song! BEST FEELING OF ACHIEVEMENT IVE HAD IN A WHILE! XD
Yeah .. me two .... searching Golden Discs for the record I had enough to buy .... U2 or something else ... their sound changed from Boy ... so an pause was there ... very good times
This was the first and last great u2 song. In my book, they were a one hit wonder. But I'll tell you one thing, when this song hit the dance clubs people went absolutely nuts. Including me.
this is what music is all about~real music from a real band who write songs, play instruments(and pretty damn good), can sing not like the shite out now! have followed U2 since i was 10 years old and no one comes close 2 them. many have came and went but U2 are still kicking ass. proves who is the best doesnt it?
