For me, this is the best 8 minutes of music ever made. It goes so deep. Watching my mother die from cancer when I was 19 was excruciating. This song was my escape from that pain. 35 years later, I still tear up listening to it. There are so many great performances of Bad, but this one is the one that is part of my soul.
I’ve listened to Bad probably over a thousand times. It touches the soul. In this scene, the lighting just adds an artistry that takes it to another level, particularly around Adam.
I saw them at the Cow Palace in 83 and when they played this song the world stopped for a moment. I have never forgotten how this song overcame the crowd and how the spirit of this band has influenced the world. U2 was a movement spearheaded by classical ideals and faith and that was far cry from what had been happening for a long time….Need it now.
Me too. I saw this in the theater with my Dad when I was 12. He passed away in 2021 from cancer. I just happened to be watching this when I got the call. For some reason I completely forgot that I saw this with him until I got that call.
Yeah, still listening 35 years later. One of the best pieces of music ever written to this day. Many many miles driven while this blasted while I tried to keep from losing my mind as I got my shit together.
Because U2 and the bands of that time were real musicians who played real instruments who were influenced by real life experiences. Today most “music” you hear could be made by an 11 year old on an iPad. Long live the 70’s & 80’s. When Arena Rock and New Wave ruled the airwaves.
Seriously, why do you need anything cool to be made now? You can listen to music like this whenever you want, wherever you want, and everytime you want.
@@redsidebiker What? Are you daft? Good music and talent are timeless, and both talent and music transcend generations. That's my whole point, dopey. I was born in 1986, and I count U2, Led Zeppelin, and the Who as a few of my all-time favourite bands. "Next generations"? WTF? Who gives a damn?! I'll be listening to U2 for the rest of my life!
I saw my first and only U2 concert as a freshman at the U. of Iowa. I never really heard this song before. When they played the part of this song starting at around 4:40 where the instrumentals took over, I felt like I my feet were off the ground in the arena. (I was not drunk or on drugs)
Its a shame all the good music has already been written and performed....this song just makes it all too clear....pretty much perfection! Bono is sooooo cool here!
I went to see Rattle & Hum at an afternoon theater showing when it first came out and I was the only person in the theater. I was transfixed during this performance, so I stayed on and watched the movie two more times. Then I bought the video...and then the DVD. "Bad" is still the best.
BAD ❤ La chanson de ma vie depuis mes 16 ans. Cette musique m'emporte tellement. Je sais l'écouter en boucle. Ce sera la chanson à mes funérailles. Elle fait tellement partie de ma vie ....
Best version of this incredible song by a mile. Best vocals, best guitar, best drums, and no fancy background screens or effects. Just a band at its absolute peak.
Best song not only by U2, but by any band, ever ! Yes .. I am not sleeping… you awoke my soul 36 years ago at my first U2 experience in Oct 1987. You ran shivers up everyone’s spine that evening…and this version still does it for me. You make me cry with so much love. Thank you for how you touch all of us. Awakening our souls! There is only one Bono and only one U2. I feel blessed to have saw this version live!
One of U2's best videos. Love the spotlights on Adam and Edge...and shirtless Bono. I was at this show in Denver as a teenager and it was life-affirming.
I was in 9th grade when I saw them at the old McNichols Arena in Denver, where this, and parts of Rattle and Hum were filmed. The best concert I have ever attended! This video, specifically, was taken out of the film, which is disappointing. "Pride in the Name of Love" was the biggest hit that night. I couldn't hear the next morning and stayed at home. I was still hearing Bono screaming.....Best experience! Love these guys!!
U2 was the last concert I attended, in 1987, in Rochester, NY, Joshua Tree tour. I was active duty in ‘88. Best concert ever and U2 cassettes (that’s what we had “back in the day”) got me through my deployment. U2 and Springsteen!! I still smile..
I was there! 17 years old summer btwn my Jr and Sr year of high school. Live in Albuquerque. Flew to PHX with a couple of friends, one whose grandparents lived in Glendale. We stayed with them. They drove us to/from ASU Sun Devil Stadium. We went the 1st night (on a Friday) and the next morning her grandparents announced they had gotten us tickets for the 2nd night! . It was unbelievable. The 2nd night we had better seats but it did start raining and then...well..........this! Unbelievable.
In my mid 70s now and I was brought up with this fantastic group, been to some of their concerts, now you know who they are, fill your ears with the best music out there. Regards from Scotland 🏴
I still remember hearing this for the first time around 1990 in Los Angeles on KROQ. There was a U2 concert locally and @richard blade played this and said he hoped U2 would perform this song. My love for this song was instant and never waned ❤
Sounding like the older guy I am becoming but this footage, this performance has captured magic organic moments you hope to experience as fans. Live, talented musicians, no computers, no singing live through autotune… just real and beautiful.
I thought viewing the live aid version was class, but this is just another level, especially where in the chorus, whole group reach a crescendo, bonos passion on the vocals leading the way, without doubt a superb display.
@@jefsiv Must have been brilliant mate, would have had the confidence of youth and they were becoming arguably the best band on the planet at that time.
Whenever I listen to this song, I get goosebumps. It's so fascinating to hear this song time and again. It's so refreshing, it gives oxygen to breathe in this polluted world 🌎
It's an Amazing version of "BAD" it has to to be ranked up there easily in the top 3 different versions, this Song MEANS SO MUCH TO ME to write lyrics like that is just unheard of, please God one day it will make me let go of this Addiction,
Ho sentito un mix incredibile tra questa canzone degli U2 ( BAD) e una canzone dei DEPECHE MODE ( WORLD IN MY EYES)....quando avevo 20 anni , nel 1990. Non riesco a trovarla!
Bad and the lp the Unforgettable Fire are the best they ever made. This performance with the repeating drums, guitar, bass creates a magnificent landscape to sing endlessly.🙏🦎
4:20 is the eruption of that song.. the way the 3 others came together and then Bono blasting into it at 4:20 is the essence of music and the reasons for being in a band and at 4:58 the let it go is bad ass
