The message at the end of the videoclip says that the song is dedicated to the Rohingya people, a muslim minority group from Myanmar. The lyrics deal with freedom and encouragement issues, but it gets really interesting if you think of the person depicted on Bono's shirt. She's Aung San Suu Kyi, an activist that became the political leader of Myanmar after a long struggle. She had been imprisoned for years due to her opposition to the military regime that ruled her country, but nowadays she's involved in serious accusations of political inaction in the midst of the Rohingya people genocide being carried out by the current Myanmar regime. The song was originally dedicated to her struggle, the times changed a lot though. :(
This song is a very deep track, I love how he talks about All that you can't leave behind which was actually the name of the Album by U2 that the song Walk On first appeared on. Basically it's saying that no matter what you are going through keep on doing what you do and be strong even though there are others who really don't understand what you are going through.😭🙁😎
I know the true meaning of this tune but.... this holds a special meaning for me as it reminds me of the death of friend of mine many years ago.... the lyrics almost fit exactly as to how I felt when he passed.....RIP my brother....I left a part of myself behind but I carry a part of you with me moving forward.
