I sure as hell do not need a $2,000 audio interface but that aint stopping me from getting one.

If I was to add up all the $$ spent on equipment that turned out to be toyish junk I could have bought one of these. My words of advice to musicians is don't f*&k around with hobbyist equipment or even think about saving money. Just get the pro stuff and go.

Way to grill him on virtual instruments!!!!! UA should get into that market. They would kill it!

Good interview now in 2020 we have LUNA so this will be interesting to see where the technology goes with virtual instruments and processing. They are getting ready to expand their markets with the X4 and X6 Luna just adds to that marketing strategy.

SO for the first 4 minutes we're talking about wobble and internal clocks? Sounds very creative.

I directly compared the Presonus Quantum with this thing when I was about to buy an interface. I had made up my mind to pony up for the Apollo then I got a chance to compare the two. It was no brainer. I 100% truthfully tell you I could not hear any difference at all. I tested recording a real 808 - 909 - a 303 and Jupiter 6. I didn't need the DSP.
@deanmccormick7347
@deanmccormick7347 4 года назад
To be fair, you're recording line in instruments - difficult to discern a difference.. Did you track any drums or ACOUSTIC instruments?
@underpressureman

So the x16's actually have different conversion specs than the x8p? That's abit wierd.

I just replaced my Apollo Twin MKII quad and Apollo 8 Duo for a Apollo Twin X quad and a Apollo x8 and payed 2.100 euro's for the exchange (not by UA but a local shop) and It's really worth the money , the X's sound really better and I have more DSP now :-)

Nice to see more processing power. Would like to see 8 cores but that would probably cost too much to keep todays price range? How does it work with the TB2 connection to the Twin mkII? If anything I'm a bit worried about using dongles and the what the speed difference would cause to the system. Also with the Twin, please consider a 4 input version. I know it's difficult to get room for that and it would probably work even hotter than it already is...

Sub 10 pico second is pretty impressive for an Apollo
@koreanfriedchildren

because it's probably 9.5 pico seconds lol

In the era of Open Source I hate to see companies with such potential and amazing product catalog, get it so wrong. UA is neglecting their long game as a company, both in the musical side of things and as a technology developer in general. Hopefully they'll steer into a better direction soon, I would hate to see them dwindle and lose support for all my UA gear. Good video though! Thanks for the content

For $450,000 dollars you too can have a UA Apollo processor!

Any information on when the Apollo Twins will be renewed?

Since the Twin mkII is just one year old, probably next year according to what seems to be the Apollo product life span?

Why has no one built hardware acceleration units to host VSTs for near zero latency software instruments?
@theeltea
@theeltea 5 лет назад
Because additional hardware is going to introduce extra latency and not everyone is happy with it. Then again, there are compatibility issues. There is always Vienna Ensemble Pro host which is pretty much industry standard for large channel count scoring/musical projects.
@shatteredsquare
@shatteredsquare 5 лет назад
@@theeltea I mean if you can have crazy latency free sounds come out of a work station, why can't a shark chip be used to host a VST for the same dedicated latency free processing, with the computer only acting as a controller for the external DSP, like you would have a computer running an editor for a workstation.
@theeltea
@theeltea 5 лет назад
@@shatteredsquare Because shark is a specialized dsp chip and not a generic x86 cpu. We had SCOPE platform on sharks from creamware. It didnt catch on...
@theeltea
@theeltea 5 лет назад
@@shatteredsquare as a developer, you want your virtual instrument to be widely available on consumer hardware.

How good is the jitter say compared to a benchmark DAC 3 or a Chord Hugo 2 with its FPGA design?
@Dizbel1

I got Apollo X8 TB3 and Windows 10. The drivers are so bed that the unit can't communicate with computer. It was working for 2 weeks then it stopped. I did all I could without any result. Waste of money.

I don't get these products! Can someone explain please? To me it just seems like really expensive interface with few inputs ¿? Wtf?
@InnerReach
@InnerReach 6 лет назад
This would be a long explanation. (Short answer) It’s necessary because people need an all in one interface that can handle a decent amount of outboard gear that offers decent analog-to-digital conversion.
@InnerReach
@InnerReach 6 лет назад
I should probably add here, that I do see a lot of snake oil as to where clocking, jitter rate, and analog to digital conversion is concerned. Although, there has been a great deal of advancement in processing speed, Stock Preamps, and latency. I’m no electronics engineer and I don’t pretend to be, but I’ve done a fair share of my own research on the subject and I’ve heard plenty of a/b comparisons between low & high quality analog to digital converters. While some may have sounded a little different, I wouldn’t say the quality/fidelity was removed, but the majority of them didn’t sound different at all. Ever heard of “ High quality HDMI cables?” I will say that, when it comes to quality and craftsmanship, software/DAW compatibility, and customer support, you’re far better going with the big guys like apogee, antelope, Focusrite, and universal audio to name a few.

You want these for the plugins that's where you save thousands of dollars it's not just a audio interface . You want THE DSP'S Go to the website and check out the plug-ins get you a Softube and you're in business

@@InnerReach There is a lot of snake oil with convertors. The quality of the Appollo range is really no better than anything else in its price range and the truth is the one i have Presonus Quantum is certainly not inferior. I could hear no difference during my tests. Mind you I was using line inputs, not mics - but hey, I only ever need one mic input when recording a vocal. I need line ins for my synths and drum machines/ Notice no convertor manufacturer ever talks about their line inputs being better than anyone else's
