RIP Astro! So sad to hear your passing today and this is the song that I thought of when i reflected on your great career with UB40. Your unforgettable voice has been part of the soundtrack of my upbringing. So many awesome memories and UB40 was a big part of it.
Goggle johhy adair infamous N Ireland gangster part of the parliamentary group uda fighting against the ira. This song is famous over him in UK and Ireland. He was also shot at ub40 concert and survived
I'm here 'cos of 1980(I'm 56)timeless, Astro R.I.P, Bless, unity colour blind and against wrongdoings of authority, bands like these had balls to sing about politics and government lies, injustices past and present, Two Tone and ska, reggae, soz soap box!!!
they even named the band after the Unemployment Benefit UB/40 application for unemployment Benefit DHSS Card... Takes me back to some good memories the Labour of Love Album (cassette lol) to be fair he did grow up in Birmingham
I got to see them live back in 90s.... still remember the feeling of them coming out on stage and when they started the feeling of pure joy and excitement was unreal!!! BEST MEMORY EVER
This is about a Jamaican hoodlum (or rudeboy) - Johnny. The whole "run to the rock for rescue and there'll be no rock" bit is a common phrase used in roots reggae and it essentially preludes to the book of Revelation. "When judgement day comes you can't hide from the wrath of God". The babylon reference refers to "evil" in a general way. "You are the babylon" means "you're a bad seed Johnny, and your day will come". UB40 covered this song.
A quality song, imo, one of the best from the band, and it wasnt Ali leading which shows just how good a band UB40 were, Astro is superb in this, and blends his rap brilliantly , RIP big man, gone but never forgotten
I love Birmingham and Winston Green the people are top but the accent is truly great but Mancs are the best for plenty of reasons like football, music, industrial revolution started right here well I’m in Newton Heath now yno when Mufc were babies lol
This reminds me of getting the train to brum as a kid with me mates and just walking around digbeth and the arches. Proper nostalgic, love this song, brings back great memories
Went to school with these guys. Great bunch of lads. True Brummies and a fantastic version of a brilliant track. Sad to say that I lost contact with them. Superb performers and a tribute to Birmingham.

Drinking down the Traf Pub in Moseley and off to a Blues party down the road. I'm sure that's Gas street basin at the back of ATV before it got developed. I think i can see the chimney of the Rum Runner and Bingley Hall in the back for a split second, Amazing never saw this video wow bring back so many memories as a teenager.
It's from the Labour of Love film. I bought it back in the eighties. All songs on the album linked into a story. Yeah Broad Street and Gas Street are different now. Great days these
