UBEL IS AWESOME! | Frieren Episode 18, 19 & 20 REACTION 

3 Episodes towards catching up and being "current". Ubel, Denken and Wirbel shaping up to be some really interesting characters!

Hey I gotta admit. That gag between the girls is very hit or miss. I see most reactors either laugh, laugh once for the first time, or admit "ok carry on". I rather have real feelings come out rather than forced laughs. But I just feel y'all gonna enjoy the upcoming episodes. Look out for Denken btw, he's pretty cool.

Guy was right on the spot with german names, almost all of the character’s names are German and have a meaning towards them, almost every character reveals what they do behind their name meaning if you know german.

14:25 I think Fern gets the credit for catching the bird. I completely forgot this detail until a rewatch, but Fern was already good at concealing her mana, and with Frieren teaching her she managed to conceal it even more so.

Another proof by Wirbel that demonkind waited for HIMmel to pass before acting up again. My man HIMmel the goat truely was the biggest threat to them and he didn't even have a goddam hero sword. o7

I think the Character/City/Region Names in this show ( they are all German) strongly relate to their most prevalent Trait or their Fighting Style. Denken = Thinking Richter = Judge(mental) Frieren = freezing (for her apathic nature) Fern = Distant ( her emotions are often distant) Stark = Strong Kraft = Power Himmel = Heaven Eisen = Iron Heiter = Bright Kanne = (Watering)Pot Lawine = Avalanche Übel = bad/evil/nasty Wirbel = Whirl as just some examples

I got my eyes on Ubel. She got me worried out here. Out here killing a protector like she's Hisoka during a Hunter Exam. I mean they let Hisoka do another Hunter Exam.

There is a German RU-vidr, Storieswithstyle, who has a lovely video giving an analysis of the names(character, location, and spell) as they appear in the anime up to episode 16. It is very much worth watching, and I would love to hear the thoughts of the thre of you on his analysis of the names. (The names in Frieren are almost all German words)

Criticism is fair, these episodes are the roughest of the season. There is a fair about of repeated exposition and excess gags. Not to say these episodes are bad, there is a great deal of character and world building done. So much that most anime would have taken 5 or 6 episodes to get through. 1 Episode to get the city, describe the exam, do the training and give brief introductions to their rivals. 1 episode to get through the opening part of the exam. How tough the Stil are and why this exam is complicated. 1 episode to introduce the first fights. 1 Ep for Fern/Ereh 1 Ep for Wirbel/Ubel 1 ep for Land/Scharff 1 ep to wrap up and introduce the fight between the next two parties. Even with how well this many episodes of content were condensed down. I'm amazed at how much repeated dialog there is.

LOL my man acting like he's there at gunpoint watchng the show against his will. He wasn't vibing with the side characters.

FWIW, Ubel did not intentionally kill the proctor. It was an accident. This is shown later in the manga and I assume in the anime, what happened.
