If you're an owner/driver and your company is going under unless you have some money coming in, it's hard to stay resilient and NOT grab whatever you can to at least be able to pay the bills. And that's what the brokers are depending upon in my opinion.

just over 10 years of experience and getting out of the game of companies I'd love to help you out in your message that things aren't all bad but a ton of bad actors in the game of trucking. Done oilfields, flatbed, dry van , local , otr, regional car hauling. The game is always the same with companies. Pay the bear minimum to the person doing the job. You always have a great message "know your worth" don't get cut down to just pay the fuel bill to get there bc then you have to pay the fuel back. freight is light but when lease operators or new O/O take loads at asking price it breaks down the entire system. I know the industry will ramp back up but it gets old when you work for a company sitting in truck stops in the south where they have only 50 spots and if you're not there by noon you're paying out of pocket 25 a day to sit for 3-4 days for a load.

I’m not even out of cdl school yet but a buddy did a lease plan with a company called Prime almost 2 years ago and he’s never sit more than 24 hrs in 2 years and he clears $2300 a week at the worst every single week for almost 2 years after expenses, fuel, truck payment etc. and his taxes. So $2300 after taxes clear and free is good money to me. And everyone I see on RU-vid is complaining about freight rates but my buddy has made more avg $2700 a week after taxes in last 3 months. He has some app that helps him know what to hold back for taxes . And his good friend is with Bay and Bay transportation and is doing better than him. Why are so many people complaining about $$. $2300 in you pocket every week is RICH!

Because Your buddy is the," exception rather than the rule." Working for Prime has a lot of advantages , the spot market has loads paying less and sometimes requiring drivers to deadhead for miles.

My email to Uber today: Uber freight Account Suspended My carrier profile is A+. We have nothing negative & 100% clean CSA. Additionally we’ve been active with Uber for since 2021 with no issues. So I’m lost when you send a statement like: After reviewing the information available to us, we regret to inform you that your carrier is not eligible for activation at this time. Why would we not eligible after we’ve been approved for over two years? Please explain what’s changed, we carry higher insurance and hold a better CSA than most Carriers. Guess what no reply from Uber.. crickets

Waldo Fla is one of the hottest areas that is monitored by state & local police for speeding. Yes they will give you a ticket for one over posted speed limit. Careful thru there.

Back in the 1990's new residents entering Florida got charged a $500 impact fee to register their vehicles, a lot of money then.

Florida needs to reinstate impact fees . The fee was $400 to get a plate in 92 . I avoided that with an old plate I had left in my parents garage when I moved up north for work for a few years. Might have been $500 but I don't know that for sure. Way too many people moving in. We're full.

Why are people still dealing with spot market blows my mind. $1300 to Tampa from Savannah and deadhead back is what we get hauling containers out of Savannah without all the extra expense and headache man. So glad I hung up the authority in 2022 made all my money on selling my trailers. Hang on brother it’s not easy at all with them rates

301 has always been a speed trap, especially in Stark. The city was sued for its insane money that they stole from folks. Eventually the state passed a law that said that most of the money went to the state not the city. Once their revenue went down they let most of the ticket writers go. Motto: Don't speed on 301. Most drivers who travel in the Florida area know that.

You were at the corner of Madison and 41 where the GAF is. The dumps trucks are coming in and out of the Cemex poet terminal. There are tankers that come in and out as well from the fuel terminals

That GAF Tampa facility is 25 miles south of my house. I live 2 miles off of 301N These " college boy " brokers are missing the concept of brokering volume . 20% of something is a whole lot more than 50% of nothing. My Dad taught me that back in the 70s 80s when he ran a brokerage out of Orlando. Greed will get you every time.

To be objective and looking at the possibilities, my only guess with Uber is, is that another carrier put a bid in that was accepted. You know how it gives you 120 minutes or whatever to accept the bid and I think that might be why because it's taken off the board until they accept the bid. Then if the carrier lets the time run down and doesn't actually book load it'll go back up on the board. Hopefully that's really whats happening I know those brokers play games all the time though.

I noticed the per mile rate was 3.43 a mile a lot better than deadhead it may have 2 pickups I don't like multiple stops but for 800$ I think I would do it. You have to get every dollar you can even if it doesn't quite meet your standards.

I’m just about to finish truck school and I was wondering what if you just drive by the weigh station? Not like anyone’s watching to see if you just drive by. The ones here in the Sacramento area all I see is a CHP truck sitting there and the lights are always green . But even if it said to stop you could just drive by and no one is watching. Not like they have cameras on the road

Would be interesting to be a fly on the wall of these shippers, calling these brokers, to arrange shipments. Maybe you could covertly call as a shipper, ask for a quote for shipment, and see what they are actually charging to gauge what they are making vs what they are offering you drivers to actually deliver it.

Exit 109 in GA. There is also one @ Exit 8 after entering SC. The SC one is generally better service and better prepared, but it can be a bit harder to get out of in a truck.

I'm a fan of thee prepass bc think of the time spent slowing down for weigh stations and the fuel burnt speeding up getting back onto the interstate. Tax write off and last I heard it was 25 a month. It could be more but as much as you travel through scales you'd benefit being only one truck. if you had 5 trucks sometimes crossing states it wouldn't make sense but it's just you and the time fuel plus tax you can take off for it you really need to check into it.

A lot of people love the C8 vette. I’m not a fan. You can’t tune them if you do mods, unless you piggy back off of a another computer like you have done your T/A. I love my C6. To me the C6 is just raw, in your face power, before computers and sensors took over.

Just make sure that you hook up to the trailer and apply air to it and make sure that the bar locks in and that little air bag is not leaking air. Also too make sure that the airbags aren't leaking around the bottom as they age a little they have a tendency to get pinched.

I went straight to my own authority because I also needed one year experience but it was hard to swallow $.39 a mile at the time I would go with a big one like Swift or any of the other major carriers that have a lot of accounts. Best of luck.

@spurs4842 I did the same thing. From CDL training to owner-op...for the same reasons Justin mentioned. Almost 3 yrs in now. Still here. Ive had my frustrations, and lessons. Made adjustments and kept pushing. I was coming from a salaried government job. Settling for .40 to .50cpm with a maga just wasn't an option. Staying out 2 weeks, and a weekend home wasn't an option either. Do not let the nay-sayers scare you away from going that route. There are a lot of fear mongering in the industry. Do your research, weigh the pros and cons....based on YOUR circumstances. Forget about the experience of others. Each persons situation is different.

@@spurs4842Concerning funding, I did not go the business load route, or financing through a dealership. Took out a personal loan through a 3rd party lender. Bought my first truck in Sept., 2021. Second truck in July 2022. First trailer (RGN) in August 2022. Working on a third truck soon.

Not sure what bad terms but any of these companies gonna have their downfalls especially the big ones but honestly every person I’ve ever met that runs for Swift seems pretty happy… they get a bad wrap, but they have a lot of great accounts and take you anywhere you wanna go

10, 13, and 18. 18 is for crossing high mountains like the Rockies or Blue Ridge. I prefer 13 speed. There's plenty of videos that will show you how to shift.
