I quite literally don't care about the game industry anymore. I haven't bought a new title in quite some time and only play old games now. I have zero sympathy for Developers. We've seen plenty of photos of what the Ubisoft development team looks like and they are the exact type of people that would support all of the terrible decisions that Ubisoft makes

I’m glad you talked about bad localization. I’m shocked at how so few people are aware of all the malicious changes being made to their (otherwise great) eastern games. Even Japanese players who are aware of the problem have proposed industry-wide blacklists for these localizers.

Ubisoft and other game companies that pushed the message allowed the infestation that is DEI to run rampant. Now they must live with the side effects. If they go bankrupt, it'll be the workers who'll suffer.

That's nonsense we have plenty of designers openly admit to making woke designs to "own the chuds" the existence of social media and their own participation in it makes their lies transparent.

When CDPR released that video about how they were going whole hog on DEI, I knew the company was cooked, and lost interest in any future releases from them.

As a player, when the devs come out and bash us, yet want us to respect them, i find i comical. Respect is earned, not given. And when you bash the people you want to buy your game, you loose any amount of respect you had.

So, basically, "toxic gamers" were right

You always have a choice, why should that place them in exemption of fault? If they all would leave together and make their own game, working on the side on small other projects. A lot of adult crying, but not enough adult to have actual solutions. Crazy world we be living in.

Remember when devs who disagreed would quit and start their own studios or indie projects? If they don't agree, but stay silent and do the shill work, then they are complicit. Prove they want my money, instead of letting some idiot make it sound like they are saying that they don't want my money.

i think cyberpunk poached a bunch of ubisoft devs and got the wokey virus. you can see soo many similarity in far cry and cyberpunk's stealth, combat, skill tree, mission designs, etc.

It's been very interesting watching modern gaming die. I haven't played a game since September 2023 when reviewers said Starfield was good and it ended up being like a 3/10. I kind of just gave up after that. I got a new hobby, reading, and have read a few hundred books over the past year. I quite enjoyed the Grey Man books, looking forward to 14. I'm also trying my hand at writing. I've got a script that's about 65k words at the moment, and it might be done soon so I can focus on writing the book based on the script. For anyone that may question me on it, get your laughs out of the way. It's a Pokemon fan fiction, okay? But people have to start somewhere. I'm testing myself and getting ready for an original fantasy story I want to write based on a world I've been putting some time into, figuring out things like how I want my magic system to work, the history of countries and factions, etc. I'm still working on it.

I can confirm software spending is out of control for these AAA companies. Microsoft licensing alone for E3-P2 licenses runs roughly about 500K for 1000 people. And to think that's just for the Office 365 suite. There's no telling what other products these developers are using that enterprise licensing is so extreme. At my last job Splunk was costing us around $2,000,000 a year then an additional $50k a month for data retention.

Although I agree that it sucks when the hardworking devs get fired because of poor management decisions, I’m going to have to disagree with that being the case with Ubisoft. That company is rotten all the way through. They’ve replaced the overwhelming majority of their staff with people who spend 16 hours a day being a Twitter activist. Every time one of them comes out and talks about their customers, their entire post just drips with derision and scorn. I’m 100% certain that the devs who actually want to make good games are a very small minority left in that company

I've been playing The Witcher since the first game. Months ago CDPR said in a video that they were on the ESG train. I also saw an article about the new studio Rebel Wolves and game Dawnwalker from the director. This was right at the beginning of the mess the gaming industry is in now but I saw it coming. I gave up on the Witcher 4 back then. I'm hoping the director who left does well with his game. It looks interesting.

Its crazy because I bet theres a crazy amount of talent these days that are just pushed away because they dont check boxes even though they have the most important part which is the talent. Shit like that is why were seeing these overblown budgets and 8 year dev times. We all seen the Tim Cain video about a 45 minute job taking a month,just think how much money is spent on these no talent hires over the span of these dev times,its funny to because we hear 8 years in development but then later on ya hear there was an insane rush the last few months because there was barely anything there that worked. These companies are paying these people to basically babysit them.

So basically it’s a good chance your favorite dev is full of diversity hires if they recently switched to Unreal from inhouse engine.

Very sad about CD Project Red. I was a huge fan of Witcher/Cyberpunk but I knew it was dead when they started hiring DEI and the old devs quit. However, I am stoked to see the new studio and what war horse brings with kingdom come deliverance. Very happy to know that at least a few studios saber included know what is important when making a game.

This whole bit right here is why I absolutely HATE Agile development... sure, you can pivot fast if needed, but "IF" happens far too often to make a good product, and Agile is then used as a stopwatch over the work to punish the devs themselves regardless of the actual failure point. Agile is supposed to be self-reflective, personal / team reflection, not the manager on the outside of the team wiggling their little fingers and knitpicking just because they have numbers and feel like they need to do something to justify their existence.

New developers can never be versed in a proprietary engine because of the fact that the engine is walled off from the outside world unless you already work for the studio. Sounds to me like CD PR doesn’t want to train up their new employees because its even more expensive to do so. Idk though, just spitballing.

Been saying for ages that it's always those rooted at the top that are the biggest problem. Games development (really just general cinematography, the more I think on it) is one facet of proof for that.

I celebrated the rise of BioWare, then mourned its fall. Now CDPR is following the same arc. At this point I’m not sure the founders could correct course even if they wanted to. Sad to see it happening again.

I'm 52 and been gaming as long as I can remember. It's never been this bad. I have never been so board with it. It's just sad really. For the first time I'm not even interested in upgrading my pc. Everything is about money and the lack of passion is showing big time.

I always, always, always doubt sexual harassment allegations these days. You hire in a bunch of DEI women who get angered over saying "hello" to them and suddenly have a bunch of men being accused of harassment. Big shock. Also, almost all of the world's inventions and creations have come out of "boy's clubs."

The sooner this all comes out, the sooner it can be fixed. Keep speaking with our wallets, and it should course correct.

I WANT the AAA gaming industry to collapse. Games won't go away but a few major companies collapsing may be enough to get the industry to change. If it doesn't - I don't care. I gave up on their games years ago. Indy gaming has so much more to offer.

It's a shame, from a Pole perspective, that CDPR turned out like this. I thought it wasn't going to happen and CDPR would remain Polish, but nah. It's no wonder most of developers who worked on The Witcher and Cyberpunk left the studio and created their own company called Rebel Wolves. CDPR is not Polish anymore. It's USA managed studio who sold out to Western Capital with all it's downfalls unfortunately. :( Next Witcher might be woke - but I still trust that Sapkowski and Witcher fans won't allow for this to happen.

All of this has ruined my passion for gaming. I rarely play any games these days and those that i do end up playing and enjoying are oldies like broken sword series, dracula etc. I buy games in single digits throughout the year and many games i get free from amazon prime gaming or epic games which keeps inflating my backlog. The games that used to excite me end up in development hell and when they do come out its buggy or nothing like what was advertised or just a copy paste of real life politics that i absolutely abhor. I think the crash is necessary at this point, the talented people will group up and make smaller indie experiences where as big corpos like EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft, Sony all will go down in flames.

All of this could've been prevented.

Got an idea. What about doing interviews and speaking with successful developers and companies? Like Space Marines 2, Stella Blade, Core Keeper, Armored Core. Delve into how their processes made them successful (more so than just appeal and gameplay). We see everything about how bad studios are doing and what lead to their downfall/lack of interest, so what about the opposite to highlight and praise good business practices. Maybe it's something that could resonate with western studios to mimic for profitable returns for once. Avid watcher of your content, thanks for what you do.

cdpr is doomed since 2018, by the time they release their next game they most likely be in ubisoft state, it what they deserve after what they did during 2077 development.
