UBOAT is a WW2 submarine simulator game where you are a captain of a UBOAT. As the captain it will be up to you to ensure that you have all the necessary supplies for your UBOAT and be able to manage your crew. You will be faced with very tough challenges and even tougher decisions that you will have to make on the fly.
The UBOAT campaign takes place between 1939 - 1945 and will see you patrolling all over the Atlantic in hunt for lone ships and large convoys. After spotting your target you will have the challenge on manually imputing all the proper information before finally firing your torpedo and watching as you send thousands of tons worth of shipping to the bottom of the ocean. Did I mention that should you not want to use a torpedo to sink a ship, you have the mighty 88 mm deck gun!
Accept mission and be rewarded through a leveling system in game that allows you to upgrade your officers and give them special abilities that will help you in your future campaigns. Completing missions will also reward you with currency that you can use to upgrade your UBOAT and make it even more difficult for the enemy to discover you and better yet...sink you.
Buy equipment for you crew, gather information to acquire new specialized torpedo's, and send your officers on missions to discover new and special tasks through the world map.
This is your boat and you get to command it however you like. Happy hunting!

I don't think the new boat (the Type IID?) carries more torpedoes than the one you are currently using; it just has a greater range and is maybe slightly quicker through the water.

@@crazedjester so far the first attempt ended quickly crashing into the bottom of the surface near east England trying to evade ships taking damage. Apparently it’s only 20m deep there. The other I’m a couple missions in and don’t seem to get patrol missions as close to those ports as you did. Difficult to find ships I can catch after they get out of the bays.

No one uses the number keys to select officers, so you can do what I did and key bind time compression to 12345 or just the top speeds in 123 and use space and middle mouse button for normal time. Keeps you from having to click on the time with your mouse.

if you hold shift, you can usually accelerate what ever is it you are moving. If free cam, it moves the cam faster. If looking through binoculars or UZO, it accelerates the turn speed. If on foot, facilitates running, if on the ladder in first person, accelerates how fast you climb. Try using shift as a modifier and you'll save yourself about a billion mouse clicks when using the binoculars.

Yes other U Boats appear in many games I've played. You can right click on the with your mouse pointer and give limited commands to them such as well. Try it out some time. They can really help keep escorts busy at times.

I ran into a enemy submarine once. It was in a muuuuuuuvh earlier build tho. It was a type viic but it wad marked as an enemy. When i approached it, it launched torpedoes at my uboat and dived down. I wasnt able to shoot it and left it there

You can't really call that 20mm peashooter a deck gun, Jester. The 88mm on the Type VII is a deck gun; that 20mm cannon is no more than an anti-aircraft gun. To sink ships with the peashooter, you need to be close range and hitting the ship along the waterline and if the enemy ship is armed, you would be seriously out-gunned, so perhaps it's wise not to do it too often without first checking to see if it is carrying defensive guns. You can get enemy subs in the game. Taff-In-Exile had a sub-to-sub encounter in one of his playthroughs in the Dover Strait if my memory serves me correctly. He sunk it with a torpedo strike, much to his utter surprise!

If you read the text related to "warmed up" torpedos, it was always referred to as "torpedo maintanence", *not* "warmed up"... The new icon reflects this more accurately and makes space for warmed up torpedos in the future?

You're doing it wrong. You first measure the Distance to target, then the angle on blow, and finally the speed. You do not estimate the speed first with the stop watch because it matters if the target is 700 meters away, or 7 kilometers.. so you first have to find out the distance

Do you use a mod UI? My UI looks pretty different and doesn’t show the numbers when I try to calculate the velocity and AOB Etc

Has anyone seen graphic issues once the update 5, I think, was added to this game? The uboats in the game are matte black, except for the conning tower. Not sure what happened to my game. Anyone know?

I think it’s because the German uboat crews saw a ton of combat and had massive casualties, thus in theory resulting in a fun action game. Also history tells us the German navy were mostly compromised of traditional military men who did not buy into the fascist propaganda / regime, rather they were fighting for their home country and defending it against its enemies. I highly recommend the memoir “Steel boat, iron hearts”, it tells the story of U505 from the perspective of an 18 year old crew member. It’s one of my favorite memoirs / historical accounts of combat, it reads like a movie. Very insightful of what horrors and adrenaline those crews went through.

Well.. they were highly advanced in several areas of military technology and really pushed the envelope of what is actually possible during the second world war. Also the extreme ideologies of nazism during the war easily fits with a more fascinating yet complex villain archetype.
