You really cannot blame Paige for this loss, she did everything to try to keep them in the game. You wonder if she hadn't been on minutes restriction if they could've pulled out the win. Thanks for uploading!
Ashlynn Shade is underrated. I get so excited when I see her run on the court and get in her comfort shooting spot. She really does so good shooting 3s
I'm going to be the one talking about Amari DeBerry making a very important defensive contribution in this game because I can't stand to see that nobody is mentioning it!!!! She deserved those minutes, and finally Geno gave her the oportunity to make an statement
Thank you for the game! Obviously very disappointing overall. Paige can’t do anything! the starting lineup needs to change, Aubrey griffin did her role but we needs shooters that aren’t only Paige!
@@lilikaramirez1848 you need to look into ducharme’s health before commenting, this is so mean concluding the fact that she has struggled with her health and injuries her whole career, you should see her playing as a freshmen she was really good and helped both offensively and defensively. Ducharme didn’t play in the Cayman Islands because of an issue in her neck. she’s still a lot of help when she’s healthy. Had many starts and even was the leading scorer as a freshmen for a while before the other girls came back from injury.
@@daveyhansen don’t let this one game set an opinion on this team, they have struggled the beginning of the season, injuries and different line up, freshmen stepping up etc, if you watched uconn’s latest game, the freshmen did no miss a shot in the first half, they were 18/18 FG. They look better now, the whole team.
Thanks again MJL243!! Tough game for UConn, but thanks for posting...as always! Edit: And for the record...Amari had some meaningful minutes in the paint on the defensive end in the 2nd quarter...and needs to be rewarded with more if she can keep that up!!! Good going.......
Who's better? Caitlin Clark? Paige isn't even completely healthy yet, has the best handles, shoots as well as anyone, has a great turnover to possession (efficiency) rating and is stuck playing with a bunch of journeyman type of players. Paige could easily average 30/6/5 if she controlled every possession. Which she now is going to be forced to do. Other than Aliyah I don't see one other player making the WNBA. The other teammates she played with Evina Westbrook barely plays in games, Liv Ododa is Liv and Christyn Williams hasn't played one minute in a game yet. How we've made 2 final fours in the 2 seasons Paige has played in games shows how great she is. Two seasons ago, we would've lost to the Florida team in the 2nd round without Paige and definitely would've lost to Indiana. There is a player in college ball other than Paige that could've carried, which she did, 2 better than average teams, to the Final 4 other than Paige.
Edwards has played poorly in ever big game UConn has had for 3 years now. She never has a big game when they need it, only against people like Butler. Kiki must have thought she had leprosy she was left so alone. But any team that you take away their 2 best shooters is going to struggle and they were both on the bench.
Thanks MJL243. Much appreciated. Good game for UCONN early in the season - before Big East (Easy) play. Showed that they have a long way to go to be a solid contender against the top teams in the league, and it clearly conveyed a necessity to develop more (even one more) players to complement - offensively or defensively or both - level of play by Paige.
I know the injuries have hurt UConn, but they’ve had a lot of top recruits underperform for a while outside of Edwards and Paige. Some of the players need to stop being local celebrities and wannabe social media influencers and worry about basketball. At UConn, it’s about winning. Not NIL bucks. They’re not mentally tough any more.
@@MrKouaVang - There are 361 DI programs. Winning 11 in 37 years is pretty good. Saying it will be hard is interesting. Are you saying it was easy before?
@@StoryGordon no, never easy. Always hard, but with this group of youngsters and in this day and age of near parity the odds of them winning it all is quite slim.
I'm happy to see Amari get some meaningful playing time. Her presence did effect UCLA in the paint even though the numbers don't show it. UCLA is a big team with 6-7 Lauren Betts at center. Time with Brinks taught her something. I've said this before. UCONN lacks shooters. Again saw a lot of wide open shops passed up due to the lack of confidence in taking open shots. So, when Aubrey and Nikka have the ball on the perimeter, UCLA just collapses to the paint and dares them to shoot. This makes driving the only obvious option for Griffin and most if not all teams know this. Amari must get onboard against big opponents for UCONN to have a chance this season. And, where has Inez Betancourt been? UCONN knows what they need to work on. The coach needs to make it happen.
I saw Inez during one of the timeouts, and she looked miserable...not happy at all!! Another player getting 2 mins at the end of the game. She deserves more than that! I'm in my 32nd yr with this team....and I'm starting to have some doubts like a lot of others. We'll see.
Why is everybody missing 3s from the right side? Why is Aaliyah missing all her mid-range shots? Nika needs to pass more strongly. UCLA is a very good team, but Rice is their star, not Betts. Where is Aaliyah? I haven't seen UConn miss so many shots and NOT take this many short shots forever.
As always, Thanks MJL. Greatly appreciate you sharing these games with us fans. Tough loss. Just have to learn from it and hopefully improve for the next game. Paige has to remember, she has teammates out there. She can't do it all on her own.
geno’s coaching has become quite suspect lately. the lineups he puts out there are horrid and he refuses to change them as the game goes on. the game was lost at halftime when he refused to put the lineup that was out there to end the half and came back from down 19 back out there. this loss isn’t even on the players
That is the elephant in the room, Coach and his coaching. We see it and I am sure the rest of the coaching staff can see the quality of coaching is slipping.
What has been taking place this year compared to the past two years is that Nika is not getting the assists, Edwards rebounding is lacking + scoring in consistant. Injuries once again plague UCONN but I really discount Caroline Ducharme as she is a chronic injury player, has been playing gingerly when on the court [like she is afraid to get injured]. So far Aubery Griffin cioming off the bench has been inconsistant as to what she provided last year. I am not seeing much passion from this team, not like the past two years. Glad to see a healthy Paige Bueckers, she is the bright spot, but she can't hold the entire team up on her own.
I think after last year of playing and experiencing a thirty-eight-minute plus, thirty-one-game season, the result may have drained players of their passion and their energy?
@@semeon52 Could be, you can't rule it out. Today Edwards stats looked lame, Griffin reallytepped it up, Paige was okay...then blah. I mean look at it Nika and Edwards were tied for second in rebounds with seven...NIKA!!!!
I was going to say the same thing until I thought to myself, “stop being an entitled b**** and appreciate the gift of being able to see the game at all without having to subscribe to the heinous flohoops.” So instead I will say with my whole heart, THANK YOU MJR, as I sit and watch this painful game over a month later. ❤
Proof UConn has work to do which I suspect they will in the thrity games or so before the tournaments. While UCLA has an experienced roster, two grad students and only one Freshman, Lauren Betts was held below her average proving for one game that having a big is not an automatic advantage. Rice and Osborne going 12-25 3s was reminiiscent of L'Ville upsetting Baylor in 2016(?). UConn is challenged to replace the play of Lou and Dorka who provided 30-40% of their scoring and rebounding with four Freshmen - Ash Ice, KK and Q - indevelopment and one, Caroline, who is day-to-day. I suspect they will be much better at tournament time.
Aaliyah Edwards didn't show up for the game. She should know better. I hope this doesn't become a trend in BIG games. Had the same issues with Olivia Nelson-Ododa...Amari is a LOST cause. Can't blame a freshman Ice- she is still learning the college game. Hopefully she will learn from this. Not looking forward to the SC..They will get embarrassed. I'm still hoping...Go huskies..
Aubrey needs to stay in the game. Debarry needs 20 plus minutes because Edwards is useless against the top tier centers. Q needs more confidence and minutes. Second loss when Geno replaces the unit that stormed back with the starters.
Caroline Durcharme no 33 are be just injured too hers too and than at will of Azzi Fudd no 35 are be injured too hers too at all times too hopeful boths of those best players for the UConn 2 players are be just going to be just returned back too the basketball teams floor too very Sooners too boths of them 2 good best players for the UConn teams too them ...
Its sad when you have a team like Uconn first few shoots are airballs. I mean really sure miss Dorka and Lou And Aaliyah Edwards is not a post player, can't shoot and can't block
Way to many coaches on the sideline - each coaching = confusion - Geno get that under control - seems - repeat seems - like players that have been given a big build up and not performing to all their hipe - study the film(s) and get a line up that compliments each others talent - opponents know they only have to stop PB and Aubrey they can not continue to carry the team (5 against 2 just doesn’t work) - teams do not cover the point guard “hell she ain’t going to shoot - if she misses one she shuts it down = 5 players guarding 4 and only two of those are actually productive - don’t get me wrong she is a hell of a defensive player now work to become a scoring point guard as well - when things aren’t going good and PB has to be the go to person let her know that is her role and not have her get frustrated with the other players “Accept you Role and Produce even more - “easy to say - I know” but tie up those shoes and go to work - it is the coach that has to see this early and get players on the court that are going to produce whatever the circumstances are!!!!!!!!!!
