arhitecturally i agree. super6, or one layer of gemini, is pretty much lifted from the Jup6/8. with addition of modern extras like matrix mod, fx and digital waves on the first oscillator. concept doubling this into two layers, each with its row of controls, plus ribbon and poly after touch, comes from CS80. however, built-wise and sound-wise UDO synths have nothing to do with CS80, or Jupiter 8. if i had to compare them to something, i'd rather say UDO character floats btwn the mid80s dco synths like Juno 106 and hybrids like Prophet VS or Kawai K3 from the same era. but all that with somewhat cleaner, modern/hifi presentation instead of actual vintage tone.
@@clusterchord1two further comments: the envelopes are Rolandy, the filter is a little bit too. and you actually can get some very vintage sounding saw or pwm pads out of this thing. the super mode on dds2 applied subtly does this and it sounds massive.
Thank you for posting this and showing how the synth really is I feel like everyone has only shown one amazing pad or just ambient stuff. This really gives you an idea of if it’s for you or not or what it’s capable of which I truly appreciate. Thank you so much. What are your initial thoughts?
Glad you like the video! My initial thoughts after a couple of days with the super gemini: beautiful filter, perfect keybed, polyphonic aftertouch and touchbar are very expressive, very clean and precise oscillators, very intuitive user interface, great loopable envelopes, similar to jupiter 8 like crossmod, great stereo/binaural sounds. It reminds me to the prophet VS combined with an analog version of a jd-800, in a way :) But: i have the feeling it is way easier to get fat, saturated sounds out of a prophet 5 or oberheim obx8/a. The Super Gemini is stronger in complex modulated high resolution hybrid sounds, imo.
@strongfilm not with the factory firmware, as soon as there is a firmware exploit my tech team will work on a zoll-scale retrofit. pm me if you are interested.
I updated the firmware twice, actually. It’s a simple process, just keep the patch button pressed while turning on the super Gemini. Then you’re able to mount it as USB drive on your computer and copy the new firmware. Eject the drive and power cycle the super Gemini.
Yeah super easy to do, it’s a class compliant synth so no drivers are required. I’ve also got the hydrasynth desktop, so really looking forward to using the ribbon and poly aftertouch with it. Do you know if the Super 6 patch banks are compatible with the Gemini?
I'm thinking your fingers-length may be noted in Guinness Book of.... I suppose for gimmickry, PolyBrute 12 wins. For Sonics, genius and everything else, it's the SUPER GEMINI.
I thought that, I sold the desktop S6 to get this and I felt that that was rock solid in terms of build, the toggle switches and sliders don't feel as high quality on the SG. Might be completely wrong on this though. Main thing however, it sounds amazing and very pleased with it.
it sounds like a hybrid juno , and yes i suppose there is a jupiter sound to it , i am not too familiar with jupiter although i do have a jupiter plugin , its a decent synth - quite exp - hope you like it@@zerb
There are not too many bass patches in the presets, however i find the bass frequencies coming out of the super gemini are somehow detailed and clean, maybe you have to give them a little boost, but i think the bass sounds amazing, especially below 100hz
