UE Megaboom 3 vs JBL Xtreme 2 :Sound Battle -Still not quite there yet!

Really absurd comparison, the direct competition to the Megaboom is the Charge 4, the Xtreme 2 is far superior obviously because the size and specs of the speakers.

I'm a UE fangirl, but I'm also a bit of a audiophile. The JBL seems to have a clearer sound. Though the 360 sound is so helpful. Rn me and my sister have some cheap bluetooth speakers that can pair up. Bass isn't too important to me and I listen to a lot of bass heavy music. I enjoy a clear freqency more than anything. I might just go with the megaboom because 200 vs 350 is a bit steep for something me and my sister would barely use. Given whatever I get my sister I'd get for myself for the pairing. Unfair. Compare the Megaboom to the Charge and the Boom to the Flip. JBL Xtreme2 is bigger, heavier and more expencive, this is not a fair comparison

Was this sound comparison done while the units were plugged in or while they were wireless? I saw a few post where JBL loses performance when not plugged into a power source.

It feels like the JBL has kind of an advantage in such a test, since the mic is in front of the directional speaker. Actually it sounds like the Megaboom is in another room and I can’t help but think that this is at least partially due to it not being directed towards the mic.

You're battle just saved me from purchasing the Megaboom 3. I could hear the difference and wanted to say thanks for your video! This provided exactly what I was looking for.

Good video, but one negative to your test is this.. the JBL speakers are pointing Forward, and the MB3 speakers are pointing to both sides (of the + - buttons), so the speakers are not firing towards your microphone from the MB3. Rtings also has the comparison of these two speakers with the MB3 coming out on top (even with the new Xtreme 3).

You should test them with the song 'Waiting Room' by Fugazi. I feel like right now you are lacking this category and sound of music, in your test.

Jbl has good clear highs and decent low sub bass but no mid. The ue boom sacrifices the clear high for a more booming low mid range and better sound coverage so it sounds better for real instruments. If you love techno get your jbl. Both nice

watched in my flip 4... to be honest megaboom bass more dense but extreme 2 is crystal clear and really it vibrates more when extreme 2 plays in this video... i'll go with extreme 2

While listening to this I am just more and more impressed with my Sennheiser headphones.

So my parents took me to Best Buy today, and said I could get any speaker I want because it’s my birthday. I saw both of these, listened to them, and I gotta say despite this test, I think the ue sounds much better. I don’t know if it has something to do with binaural recording or what but I encourage everybody who is trying to decide between these two to go listen to them in person. Reguardless both are absolutely amazing speakers and you can’t really go wrong with either, it’s just your preference at the end of the day. Good luck with your choice!🔥

I would still get the UE because having had both in the past the UE is way more portable and it probably the best speaker for its size and price

I guess the bass is set very strongly in the equalizer of the boom app. Otherwise the sound would be much clearer

No comparison- Xtreme is better in all frequencies. Maybe lacking a bit mids, but it sounds natural and soft nevertheless. Xtreme has way deeper and smoother bass, not boosted to 200hz. Ue doesnt even have true 360 degree sound, because there are only 2 drivers. It doesnt sound the same in all directions

The recording of the megaboom sounds like it was taken from a mic about three feet away. Listen to all the room reflections. The JBL sounds like it was plugged straight into a recorder. Even ignoring that, it's ridiculous to think you could get a fair comparison by listening to a compressed RU-vid video on completely different headphones.

So, ok i do agree if you’re saying the xterme 2 sounds better, BUT, that guy is like two times as big and costs like 100 bucks more. carrying that big guy around is ways more problematic, even with its strap. Their features are also different, yeah the jbl can charge your phone, but it doesn’t have a charging dock option, also, the ue can easily pair up with many other ue speakers, so in case of fairness, you should compare the apps too and the jbl one sucks. Its not working well and it doesn’t have the same simplicity as the ue speaker app and ue does have more possibility’s, like working as a remote to turn on and off and connecting more than one is far better with ue, I mean, why can’t you do it with xtreme 1 and 2 ?! Cause hol wants to make money, ue does even substitute the first boom from what, 2013? For me, if you don’t just compare them soundwise, the ue is the winner. If you’re going just soundwise, try the harman Karton go+play

You tested the mega boom with the speakers pointing sideways and the JBL pointing forwards at the mic. Not an accurate comparison. You’re not the only one that did this...

And not to mention to add to what I wrote below. JBL / Harmon is a speaker manufacturer been doing it as long as Apple has been doing computers they know what they're doing. Apple just paid someone to make it and throws their name on it.. and that's exactly how that product.. They are out of their league.. HATE TO TELL YOU AS AN AUDIO FILE 360 SOUND IS UNNATURAL AND THAT'S NOT HOW PEOPLE RECORD MUSIC.. 2-CHANNEL STEREO HAS A SOUNDSTAGE IF YOU STAND IN FRONT OF IT DESIGNED EXACTLY THE SAME WAY THAT THEY RECORDED IT IN THE STUDIO.. 2-CHANNEL STEREO WILL ALWAYS SOUND BETTER!! IT WILL ALWAYS SOUND MORE ACCURATE, MORE NATURAL, CORRECT, MORE LIKE THE BAND PLAYING IS IN THE ROOM THEN 360 SOUND COULD EVER DO.. 360 SOUND IS JUST A GIMMICK TO THROW SOUND IN A CIRCLE USING REFLECTIONS AND PROCESSING..

I have a JBL Xtreme and while I love it, it is way too big to lug around on a fishing trip or on long hikes. It feels like it should be set up at home and just transported around the home not far from the charger. The Megaboom 3 on the other hand seems like the perfect “mini version” that I can take anywhere and be perfectly happy with its performance. I ordered a Megaboom 3 today and can’t wait for it to be here

U cant say that the JBL is better cause look what the speaker can fot the size and how tough it is. Yes the Jbl sounds way better but 1.The Jbl Xtreme2 cost more 2.(Ue 3) It's smaller and better for outdoor and u can put it in backs with things in it. If u put the Jbl in a back with things in it it could get get destroyed cause the passivevradiators have no protection. 3.The Ue is a better allrounder and thesound is great for what it can do.It's the best speaker for outdoor who want loud sound but small and tough. Yes the Jbl have way better sound but can u go Climb with it?It's heavy and big i think no and u cant put it in a Backpack without a case (extraweight). Ue Megaboom3/Boom3= Pros.1.Light/Tough 2.Loud 3.Perfect for outdoor. Cons. 1.Not really great sound but for some it's enough. UE MEGABOOM 3 vs SONY SRS XB41

This was the final nail in the coffin for the megaboom... Anyone who thinks the megaboom 3 or the megablast or any other brand in its price range can match the sound of the extreme 2 is either deaf or living in a dream world...The only good thing about the eu is they have wi-fi and alexa built in... however sound wise the jbl blows them all out of the water...even though this is an old video with the oldest firmware on the jbl speaker the xtreme 2 is still on another level when it comes to sound quality...its had like 5 updates since this video was made and it sounds even better and louder now... so honestly it's a joke to even compare these 2 speakers!!! And for those who don't believe this or complain that the video was unfair cos the mic was not in the right place or that one speaker was in a different room then the other ect then go to a shop and compare them yourself!!! Dont just sit here and talk s**t about people making videos on RU-vid cos If u dont believe them then why do u watch them for?? Ps JBL OWNERS Xtreme 2 just got another update 2.3.0 a week ago and it sounds insane... for those of u who don't know jbl constantly keep making this speaker sound better and better almost every month or 2... you'll never get sick of listening to it

To do real speaker test, need to compare using wired audio cable, as long as the audio cable is not very cheap kind, it will sound better than bluetooth due to uncompressed sound vs compressed then decompressed audio signal of bluetooth. And I have Charge 4 and Xtreme 2, when wired in, both can only get lower volume (70%) than bluetooth connected at max volume that JBL tech support could not help why, but sounds a lot cleaner and detail in every frequency, I can tell. I use bluetooth occasionally when needed.
