Patreon: / stevestutorials I made this video before making my new water material. Its still relevant because i still use distant fields in my new material :D Twitch: / stevestutorials Twitter: / stevestutorials Discord: / discord
I have been going nuts trying to find a tutorial that shows you how to do this using distance rather than depth. Thanks, you have ended my hours of searching.
Question. I have some objects in the water, but the size of the foam edge is much smaller around the objects compared to the edges near the terrain. Is there a reason the edge size would be smaller around objects placed in the water? Ty for the tutorial!
It can be to do with the scale of the objects. Are the objects with a smaller foam line scaled up at all? Or ar they all at their default 1,1,1 scales?
I'm assuming it's because of the distance fields unloading at a further distance. I believe there is a way to increase the range of this but I can't remember the command.
@@StevesTutorials Yeah, unfortunately i use Lumen and it seems that the "Global DistanceField View distance" is locked to 20000 ( 200 m ) when using it. Quite annoying......
it sort of worked for me but the size of the edge effect was too large and it seemed like none of the parameters could shrink it. It also looked very blocky/low poly.
Well done, and thanks for sharing. I spent most of the afternoon banging my head against this thing, and couldn't find a look I liked. You gave me exactly the solution I needed. Cheers!
Have you got any other mesh in the scene other than your landscape. For some reason distance fields only seems to activate when you have at least one static mesh in the scene. If that's not it I assume a setting on your landscape for distance fields is disabled
@@StevesTutorials I have other meshes in my scene and they work fine with distance field, only the landscape doesn't work and distance field is enabled
