When your metahumans are torn apart, when their fingers are like branches of a bush or their head is torn off the body, I always come to this channel for help. This was the most interesting tutorial I've seen on this topic! Top notch and I haven't seen anything like this! As well I like the intro and all the rest. Some use some music playing in background that in most cases are distracting or just sound terrible. Overall presentation was great!

You can select all animations and right click, then retarget.

Great as always. With the rise of AI assisted and video mocap, could you do something on mocap cleanup? Fixing wobbly feet and jitters in the graph editor for example?

I've this issue that the arms are not in the correct position. The animations came from a FPS pack called MPS V3, which animations I retargeted. Specifically, animations holding a weapon. I'll download the ones mentioned to see, if the same happens. I'm using 5.1.1.

Just watched 2 tutorial vids of yours but the endings cut out the implementation of what you are teaching. It would help to see how you add the meta human to a scene and show them running around with new animations.

Hey thanks for the tutorial. I’m trying to wrap my head around the various workflows I’m seeing on retargeting in UE5.1. This one being very different. Can you explain how this solution compares the more published process of using the retargeting assets and baking our new animations that apply for specific SKMs? Ultimately I’d like the options to import various character assets some with non UE character rigs) and relatively cleanly have one set of animations that can apply to swap character in game. Thanks

This uses Epic skeletons, meshes, compatible Skeletons functionality and included retargeting assets.

I have a question about what we can achieve with that approach. I would like to add old Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) animations to MetaHuman and export the new animations to Maya for more precise animation editing. I have followed your instructions and I was able to see the old UE4 animations in MetaHuman as a preview, but I couldn't export them to anywhere? Nice tutorials! keep it up!!!

Once retargeting is complete (ue4>Metahuman), right click on the newly created animation asset and export as an fbx.

Thank you! I have a question: I use an UE4-based skeletal mesh under my UE5-based mannequin to benefit from the foot IK. It does make all UE4-based animations available for my new character, but there are some problems with the feet (although in the preview animation it looks nice on the UE5 mannequin) Why is there a difference between the preview on the target skeleton (UE5 skeleton) and the final look which uses the UE4 skeletal mesh under the UE5 skeleton?

UE4 skeleton is missing those extra spine bones and there could be some post process stuff happening.

Nice method. Thx. But root-motion brokes after retarget UE4 anim to metahuman skeleton. Is there a way to fix it?

Yes, I understand. In some versions of UE5 root motion is broken, while retargeting. Epic has improved this in newer versions. In 5.1/5.2, In the details panel of "Global Settings" in the IKRetargeter, Make sure "Enable Root" is enabled in "Global Retarget Phases"

Idk why, but after i hit compile and tries out the character it stands like a robot with the legs, idle aim for instance, both legs are next to eachother , the right leg is not slightly behind for "stability", idk why

I noticed the final shot, where all three Mannequins lined up posing. Exactly what I struggle to create. Thats what I want to learn how. Im just getting used to Unreal, but my biggest struggle is at the moment, that i only want a freaking character in my scene, just set up with a purchased animation pack, maybe combined with a free character pack, and just a simple pose for a still shot. that's it. : ) although great tutorial i guess, but all these tutorials and i cant figure it out how to set up a custom character with a custom animation for a still shot, just for composition purposes.

2 years ago, I did not even know what Unreal Engine was. There is a lot of knowledge, time and skills that go into creating the shot in the tutorial. The key is not to loose your patience and break down the task into smaller parts. It will take a long time to learn but you can do it.

What is the purpose of adding different skeletons to model? Do I still have to retarget a whole animation pack after doing that? Assigning new skeletons to metahuman did not add new animations available.

Idk why but this is messing up my when I have the defualt foot ik control rig on in my anim graph. If I turn it off then everything works fine.

So instead of replacing/retargeting the skeleton from animation pack the traditional way, I can just hook them all up as compatible skeletons and my animation blueprints and everything will work? Or is this for just static poses animations?

Yea I mean I’d imagine the skeletons would have to have the same/almost the same hierarchy. Unless you talking something else that could make it not work right

There is that, sometimes with some animations, in some packs, it just does not produce desirable results and you have to go in an fix manually.

@@Jobutsu if you have a clean third person project open the ue4 to ue5 Manny retargeter and retarget the one single ue4 manny animation (its a jog holding a rifle) then in game, the animation floats. I have this issue with every animation coming from the ue4 skeleton.

@Oo I haven't experienced what you are talking about about myself but I've read on forums and other youthbe videos and there all almost said that you need to mess with the height of the player model and or mess with the foot ik. I wish I could go into more detail for you, but I hope that at least points you in the right direction.

@@KillerDudeT19 Thanks for taking the time to reply friend. I've put animations on the to do list - hopefully this issue is resolved in future. I've tried what you mentioned and it's just too much of a pain for hundreds of animations.

@@Oo-tn9xg I think k you can bulk edit animations if you select all of them then right click and hover over "asset action" it should give you an option to bulk edit

CC4 Skeletons are UE4 Skeletons , so just add the CC4 Skeleton in the Asset Skeleton Details 😁
