I remember when Jiri submitted Glover at the end of one of the best fights I've ever seen, the first thing I thought was 'wouldn't it be incredible if Pereira moved up and avenged his MMA mentor'. Then Pereira went up and did it, and then last weekend he made easy work of the man that retired Glover. Pereira must have an incredible student and from everything I've heard, Glover is an incredible teacher. It was one of those storylines that feel too good to be real

Significant aspect was the hand fighting in the beginning. I don't think jamal was intimidated at all. It's more about Alex luring jamal into pattern of lead hand fighting. Getting him jamal to throw the left while parring it timed the left shovel hook. Jamal looked bigger and more intimidating than Alex. But skill .d experience wise it's different story. I watched all the leadups to the PERREIRA fight. I watched the weigh-ins and other encounters. Studied both Perreira and Hill closely. Watched each moment when the came to center ring and reacted to each other being in close proximity. After the fight the the next few days I must have viewed 25-30 different REVIEWS of the fight from every expert online. Read sports writers covering it too. I wanted to see if THEY saw what I saw. Not one of them did. I was waiting to find Teddy's analysis of that fight and finally found it today. I wanted to see if TEDDY saw what I saw. He captured it all perfectly. Finally! Someone saw thru all the trappings and pierced to the core essence of what happened. Beyond mechanics. I was kind of shocked, happy and amazed that he was the ONLY ONE who saw it. The "presence". The overpowering "thereness" and stare. The immovable object. It was not manufactured or synthesized. It was really the immortal warrior who has been in combat for thousands of years, lifetime after lifetime. He was plugged into THAT! As Teddy said, he wasn't trying to stare or intimidate. A tiger stealthily stalking it's prey is not trying to make a motionless-blinkless face. That IS the tiger's face in that moment! I saw, by comparison that Hill was drawing his strength from something very thin and current. It was not thousands of years old. He was trying to summon the cheap tough-talk of the hood. The empty bravado throwing about fierce words & warnings. It was nothing. It was powerless against thousands of years of Aztek Warriorship and the certainty that it brings. Again, Teddy nailed all of this in his own inimitable style--himself a master of the martial world and one of a tiny number who had the knowledge and wisdom to bring his analysis into the realm of poetry. There is nobody with the x-ray vision of Teddy Atlas. I had a distant feeling and hope that he saw all of what was there to see. I wondered why none of the other "experts" even noticed it. Teddy analysis of that fight was a masterpiece, by which all other fight analysts can only aspire to. He is the greatest without doubt. Beautiful work Teddy....and thank you for the enlightening art that you create!

UFC 300 was easily the greatest combat sports event in my lifetime no other card can even compare. To Ken's point @ 25:40, thats a real problem that the commissions are tryina figure out rn. If its really egregious and severely impacts the fight on the first foul, the offending fighter will typically get DQed and lose (ex: Aljo/Yan). In this case, it wasnt really a intentional kick from Oliveira he was trying to push away Arman's body and the foot just happened to push his face. That kinda stuff is fairly common when you have 2 grapplers goin wild on the ground tbh i dont think that merited taking a point.

I feel like everyone is sleeping on Jiri's head movement. Rewatch some of his fights, he isn't getting hit flush with as many shots as you think he is. There is a method to Jiri's madness, and its very interesting to see most traditional analysts see it as "rock-em-sockem robots" and "toughness". If you notice partway into the second round Jiri makes the read of using a southpaw high kick, to a stance switch to put him in position to pop this really interesting fade off 1 2. He uses it to cover distance and to keep Rakic from settling to throw kicks or interrupt him. Super interesting stuff that isn't just winging punches, although it could look like that to some people.

@future, I too am a little taken aback by the obtuse takes from the professional analysts here. I thought this was the best performance in combat sports history. Jiri always finds something to distract his opponents. He finds something to get their attention. Here, it was the right hand, just sticking it out there. Rakic met his right hand every time as the fight progressed. At the end of the first round, jiri was smiling. He knew that he got rakic focused on this "hand fighting." He knew he could use that to close the distance, distract, and time Rakic. So yeah, I agree with you. People aren't astute when it comes to what makes Prochazka successful.

People tap in training no point getting broken bones or torn ligaments when youre sharpening your tools. Ken nailed it fight mentality is totally different to training.

Teddy, as a Brazilian, I'm impressed with your attention to all details. Alex Pereira is a legit descendent of native Brazilians, warriors of the jungle. They get fight not as a sport but part of their lives. Alex's hard life built a steel winning mentality.

Teddy's spot on. It beggars belief why RG has not been removed from this fight. I saw an interview of RG, shortly after his son was born, where he seemed to be holding back tears. These vital signs are often missed. This won't end well. Some sickos will be watching the fight to see if a breakdown occurs, or at least watching for all the wrong reasons, in my opinion.
