I’m glad they decided to keep the scoring format! I’m excited to see how it will look with the OT rules. Someone already said this: it’s similar to the NHL’s shootout format as well. That makes that even more exciting!
The OT rules for UFL, are almost like US College Football. In College Football, teams will start the shootout (2pt play) starting at the 3rd OT period.
The OG USFL was successful. A certain someone decided he didn't want to just be a successful spring football team owner. I say this as someone who is by-and-large approving of that certain someone's work since 2015.
@@edwardjones1482 Yeah, I wish they had the XFL kickoff rules as well. Force them to play. More time, more opportunities. In addition, it forces to kicker to have some skill to target where the ball goes in order to not receive a touch back.
I love seeing these kind of experimental rules in the "alt" leagues. Allows for experimentation and testing of ideas before incorporating into the pros and gives a good and interesting to watch
3pt play should be from the 15yd line, or at least the 12. Too similar in difficulty to a 2pt play from the 5 (smart teams will strictly prefer 3pt attempts than 2). Heck, some teams might prefer the extra space.
I like the point after rules. It makes a lead less certain when there are more options for additional points, as well as more chances to not score those points, unlike kicking which is a near certainty but only one point.
I still think the first iteration of the XFL had the best OT rules. The second possesion team had as many plays as the first took to score to beat them.
1 point should just be a nice easy kick, 2 points the same as in the video and 3 points the same as in the video. I feel like offensive players are gonna get injured for 1 measly point, let the offense get off the field they did their job. That's why I preferred the USFL PAT rules. Glad we've got a normal kickoff and not what the XFL did and disappointed the NFL adopted a version of it.
See I have a theory as to why they're not doing the USFL PATs....because there wasn't many teams going for 2 nor 3 pts the last 2 seasons compared to the XFL teams so they want teams to be more aggressive and not conservative
@@SharkMako scoring is always fun but it doesnt have to do with the points..it's more to do with coaches having that option and being aggressive to take that option rather than just going with a simple PAT
@@FlameWingMan ye being aggressive against a gassed defense which you just went down the field against. Football is all for Offense and against defense and Special Teams now. Just look at the NFL banning "Hip drop" tackles.
A team that gets a turnover on a PAT and returns it but doesn't get it into the other team's endzone should have the option of their offence starting from wherever the ended up advancing the ball. Say a team intercepts a PAT and returns it to midfield. They should have the option to reject a kickoff and the offence to take the ball at the 50.
@@Fourmath I completely agree. It forces the kicker to not just worry about distance but where to place the ball and every kick returner gets a chance to make a big play which drastically makes each kickoff more exciting.
Nope. That rule stunk. It prevented too many good returns. KaVontae Turpin never would've won League MVP and went to the NFL and became a Pro Bowler if he had been playing under that stifling rule in the USFL.
Best safe kickoff idea ever. NFL agrees. I don't think anyone agrees with you.@@TheChallenger1000 Is everybody just too woke for you? lol or just not dumb enough for you?
I feel like it should be further than just a 4th and 12, i feel like that would be too easy to get? Like at least like 15 yards i think would be much better
Many people enjoy the XFL kickoff, but to me, it seems somewhat boring. It appears that 90% of the time, the returner is stopped by the wall of players, or if he breaks through, it results in a return because there's no one left to stop him. Although there are many returns, most end up in the same position as a touchback. In the two seasons the XFL has implemented this, only three returns have resulted in touchdowns. The average starting field position was around the 30-yard line, which was close to the NFL's average of the 28-yard line at that time. However, I suppose it's more about safety, even though I'm skeptical about the NFL's commitment to it, or else they would have changed the turf.
During their most recent owners meeting, the NFL has decided to use the XFL kickoff rules which states that no one moves until the kick returner either catches or muffs the ball. They hope to reduce the amount of touchbacks during the game. 🏈
@@FlameWingMan thank you for the correction, I missed like half of the games last year so I didn't know that, I hope someone carries on their tradition RIP Sea Dragons(hopefully not for long)
@@milroe_editz I think they still have the option to do one or the other, unless they scrapped the onside kick. Field Goals are definitely still in. Deestroying just got signed as a kicker.
Trust me that the #NFL will get rid of that #XFL kickoff after this upcoming season and will go to the #USFL version which will be used in this season in the #UFL . It’s innovative, safe, and produces more big returns and more touchdowns.
They're not going to use the USFL version...they already said if the XFL kickoff doesn't work they're either going back to what it was last season or just get rid of the kickoff altogether
I like it; only thing that should be different is the turnover on PAT attempts. Defense should always get 3 points regardless of the Offense point attempt. Only because I believe the turnover for a score is already rare for a PAT turnover. I Love the no tie rule, as brutal as football is, it should be cutthroat winner take all every game.
Yeahhh they're not bringing that back..there's a reason the XFL wanted their point system...be there none of the USFL teams were going for 2 nor 3 as much as folks wanted to and were being more conservative..they want the HCs to be more aggressive
The USFL should have been told to shut up and color. The merger only required their teams, not their input on rules or anything else. XFL was the far superior of the two leagues by a mile
The XFL incurred a $60 million loss last year, yet FOX reports that the USFL generated profits for them and NBC, at least in terms of television revenue. It's unlikely that the XFL could have sustained operations without the merger. The USFL was poised for its third season prior to the merger. The consolidation likely benefited both leagues, as the market may not have supported two separate leagues.
@@GKram13 It's understandable, yet even with St. Louis, the average combined weekly attendance was 14,431, with a total attendance of 72,152. Most of those stadiums incurred significant financial losses, and ultimately, money dictates outcomes. It's not that the USFL was drawing large crowds; they only had four stadiums, and one wasn't even in a team's market. However, their gradual approach likely prevented them from losing as much money. Moreover, a significant portion of revenue comes from television and advertisements, and both leagues had comparable viewership numbers.
Love it! The only thing I would change is PAT kicks for 1. But honestly, that’s just nitpicking. The zero kick PATs really forces those kickers to be clutch and make a name for themselves.
